I don't like the change to real world locations nor do I like the helicopter minigunner thing, QTE's demand on how they're handled. I am glad it's multi-plat though, I'll get to play this one. I'll wait to see more before I drop my judgement though.

The helicopter thing could be interesting depending on how it's actually played in game. I know there's a lot of hatred for Modern Warfare around here, but the AC-130 gunner thing was kinda cook imo and if they can do something like that with the helicopter gunner it could be interesting at least.

The gunship level of COD4 was by far the best part of the game. The rest of it was just generic shooter blandness. I wouldn't mind seeing something along those lines, although the helicopter gunner footage seemed far more "actiony", if you get my meaning.

 

The quicktime thing looked to be a eject sequence maybe? Seemed just to be the Y button when the player was about to get shot down.

This. Strangereal allows a lot easier handwaving in terms of being able to fly aircraft from many real world nations without having to come up with a bunch of contrived reasons why you are flying an American Su-33 Flanker-D. Similarly it makes it easier to include older aircraft along with the new. That, and just having a consistent continuing storyline in the same world.

 

I'm not saying things can't work with the real world, I just don't see the need as it is potentially more limiting.

And this. Screams minigame to me, which I don't think fits with AC.

Based on how the trailer portrays it, I really don't like that quick loop thing by pressing Y. AC has never really had gimics such as this.

 

I'm sure I'll get it and love it, but I would prefer not to have this apparent change in direction. I would prefer a Starcraft 2 mentality.

I'm not sure how many others have been following this game around here. I don't think there are many LF aircraft heads. But being a big fan of Ace Combat, E3 and recent times have turned out some pretty trailers.

The more I see of the game, the more I realize it isn't the Ace Combat that I grew up with and the more worried I get. However, it is planes and it holds the Ace Combat name, so I'll give it a try.

I can't wait for this one. I was kind of pulled-away from the last AC game on the 360 because I heard that the story was cringeworthy in terms of the cutscenes, and I wasn't sold on the game otherwise after playing the demo, but I have to say, I can't wait for this game. I'm definitely getting it!

I think it's a mask rather than a balaclava. The skull certainly seems to be solid and three dimensional, as opposed to just painted on fabric.

 

But yeah, the whole time I was watching the trailers I was thinking "is this the next COD game?". Certainly has that sort of vibe. It reinforces my view that pretty much all game developers these days are frustrated film makers that are co-opting video games to tell their "awesome story". :rolleyes:

Yeah, you're right, I wasn't watching the trailer closely. Looking at a still image, it's painted on the face shield. Still, it's a definite similarity.

The story lines from from AC are pretty much always cheesy goodness. Japanese love that, methinks.
That's what worries me, with this new focus on real world locations and such, I'm worried there will not be cheesy goodness :(
