The "Money Tree" in Chicago

This was an interesting experiment someone did and I was surprised by the results:

That looks like a reasonably well-off area. Put the tree in a poorer location, and see how long it lasts. Also, I suspect the results would be very different if people were certain they weren't being watched. If I saw a money tree, I'd assume someone was watching how people react, or at least filming them for an ad or something. That changes people's actions. So this doesn't really work as an experiment, but experimentation was never the intent. Idle curiosity was.

 

With that said, it's a nice idea, and makes me smile.

Of course, the people that didn't even notice were surprising. Then again... not really. Most people don't pay attention to what is going on around them anyway.

Yep, so they probably knew they were being filmed. I stick to common sense and say that it'd be stripped bare of dollars.
