Bendak Starkiller Emblem Armor

Hello all, it's been a long time since I've released a mod. Mostly, my work has been put towards Revenge of Revan. This is, however, a little something that ties in.

A few years ago, LordRevan999 made some awesome battle damaged Mandalorian skins for TSL (but they can be used in K1 as well). They were really well done, and great to look at, but they affected every Mandalorian (since they were just re-skins of the defaults). This made Bendak Starkiller look all beat up and worn out, and didn't really suit his character very well. After all, he's a retired duellist (and celebrity) in a fairly wealthy part of Taris, so I always thought that his armour would look like it was taken care of (for the showmanship of the sport).

I suggested to LR999 that he might want to make a shiny gold armour specifically for Bendak (see thread here). He started out well, and we even collaborated on the design. I supplied logo/emblem designs, and he worked on the rest of the colour patterns. I was really liking the results, but real life took its toll on LR999's modding time, and he left the thread dormant for a while. I also never recieved any working files from LR999.

In Revenge of Revan, Bendak's armour makes an appearance. I wanted to bridge K1 with RoR in a way that his armour was fairly consistent from one game into the next. Since I'm really good with Photoshop, I made my own version, based on LR999's screenshots, and then updated it a bit. The results can be seen here.

My RoR version was finished about 2 years ago, but LR999's K1 version is still a WIP. He's even decided to go in a new direction as to how he wants it to look. Since my original idea was to have a recognizable armour appear in both Kotor and RoR, I decided to make my own K1 version. I've done all the work on this skin, but I was heavily inspired by LR999's excellent colours and design concept, and he deserves the credit for that. I figure that there are other people out there who are fans of his work, and want to be able to play with it in their game. I also hope that LR999 comes back and releases his own mod, because he was doing a great job.

The first pic shows Bendak in the cantina (where he was busy NOT waiting to sign autoprints ). The top row of the second pic is Bendak in the duelling ring, and the bottom row is the wearable armour. The third pic is the icon, and close-ups of the various emblems. The item has a nice description in the inventory screen, which explains why the armour is so well taken care of.

I've also included a little bonus. This is a version of Bendak's armour that is based on the picture of him in the Knights of the Old Republic Campaign Guide.

The TSLPatcher will add a line to the appearance.2da, install a new .uti file, modify Bendak's .utc file, and copy the emblem armour to the override directory. To use the Campaign Guide varient, FIRST run the patcher, THEN copy the varient skin and icon .tga files to the Override directory (and over write the existing files).

Download at FileFront (may need to refresh the page a few times due to FileFront's site issues)

Wow. Looks really great. Only thing i can see to fix, is the peck with the emblem. It doesnt seem to blend well with the rest of the armor. It could be a model issue though. Looks amazing though!

yeah, I think it is a model issue, but it might look more pronounced because of the baremetal shine. The texture itself is fairly uniform.

Really outstanding work again, redrob41... Just as we have come to expect from you. I like the variation in the color-blocking; that the uniform is not so "uniform" leg-to-leg is a really nice detail, giving more depth to the uniform as a whole. The emblems are unique and of great detail as well!

I will be needing to make a few custom skins in the future for my secret projects (muuuuuwhawhaha) and your work is a great reference to what can be done with the proper tools and time. The skill level though, may be difficult to match :D

Out of curiosity, are you using CS4 or 5? I think you have said which in the past, but my addled old brain cannot recall :p

I was using CS2 up until just a couple of months ago. In Dec 2010 I started using CS5. For modding Kotor skins, I haven't really used any of the newest features yet.

I'm just waiting for FileFront to approve the file, and make it available for download.

Just to let you know, that may be a while. There are technical issues affecting the whole Filefront network which are making it impossible for staff on a lot of sites (including KotORFiles) to log in to the back-end. And even once we can log in again, there's still going to be a backlog. Unfortunately, I can't give a time-scale on when this will all be fixed, since it's out of my hands. :(

C'est la vie, I guess. Well, since I waited a couple of years to put this mod out there, I suppose I can wait a little longer for technical issues to be resolved.

If you'd like.. I can host the file on my server. At the very least it's a download link you can put in your original post. Would serve both as a download link and an alternate link for download once FileFront is up & running.

Granted, it's not the bell & whistles with download count and comment section, but it's an option for ya' if you're itching to get it posted.. hehehe

Just let me know. Email/PM etc. :)

You may also host them yourself at deadlystream.com

Well, since FileFront still seems to be having problems, I've decided to try out hosting at Deadly Stream. I'll probably start hosting all my mods there (in addition to FileFront, when it gets fixed), because it's always good to have back up DL locations.

(I'll also put link in first post)
