News
Even with E3 being this past week, the devs still found time to answer a few choice questions on the Star Wars: The Old Republic official forums. See what they had to say below, or view all developer posts on the Dev Tracker. Sir Vougalot
Yes, great. How about that long-overdue timeline update, huh? They really ought to make the wait between the next two entry ridiculously short as a way of apologizing for their tardiness.
Darth Avlectus
I know you're chomping at the bit, Zer-Ny, But if it's any consolation other mmo players have become immensely more interested after the 'choose' trailer. Besides, wasn't that revan trailer enough to tide you over? ====== Death, they're working on options. You have an option either for probe or med center alone; also to accept help when with friends. You might need to get insurance for the probe? I guess they're thinking of everything. +++ Anyways...So, they're considering becoming really strict about lighsaber crystals. So far I have seen red, green, blue, violet, and cyan like in the movies. (Yes we all know technically it was supposed to be just blue in ANH but the shade of it was different enough to make it a distinctive cyan!) I have seen some things indicating yellow in comics and such but have seen nothing about it in the game pics and trailers. Now if colors are alignment restricted, red is purely for dark side, blue and green are for light side... Does that mean violet is neutral since it has been used by both sith and jedi in the pictures and clips? Mace Windu used it but he was a precarious jedi: Light side but allowed his inner darkness to fight with him--to a point. If they 'darkside' the violet then that is going to **** with some things continuity wise. What does that mean for cyan? I'm guessing probably light side. From the indication, they might at least going to require you to be dark side to use red. However you probably can go Exar Kun and use blue if you want. A'Sharad Hett was a jedi that used red but wasn't dark side. There were a couple of others IIRC. You can chalk people who give a flip about this to "crazy EU followers" and content as "minor discrepancies" but that's sort of "pot. kettle. black." since this is EU as well. However they said opposite colors, so does that mean bronze is going to be included? Depa Billaba used an orange (bronze?) one while she was still on the light side. Of course any color like silver/white is going to be shunned. >_> Anyway it's only on the table right now so nothing definitive. Should they implement it, I bet the saber color nazis will probably get off on that.
Jeff
I don't want any wacky lightsaber colors. No orange/bronze, silver, black, etc. Basically I only want colors that were in the movies, and I can live with yellow if they include it. So I'm pretty happy with what they've shown so far in regards to that. As for purple, pretty sure that either side can use it, as both a Jedi Knight and Sith Inquisitor have been seen using it. Darth Avlectus
I'm not a Revan fanboy. I think he's overrated. I agree, but even so I am curious. Though not as curious as what happened to the Exile.
Tommycat
I'm not big on the color restriction thing. Anakin used his blue lightsaber to kill a whole bunch of younglings... I can't think of a more darksidey thing to do than that... It's not like the crystal is gonna change colors because you're all evil and stuff... Besides, wouldn't a red saber be a dead giveaway to the council that you're not a good jedi. Just sayin...
Darth Avlectus
^^Inorite? As for purple, pretty sure that either side can use it, as both a Jedi Knight and Sith Inquisitor have been seen using it. Well the thing is, Jedi can find red but just not use it unless their alignment has gone to dark despite their class. Though not seeing eye to eye on the "whacky" (Silver's my favorite , though I'd also take orange if only one was available), I agree with you that purple ought to be neutral. It works for both dark and light. Maybe it's just because I've read both novels Shatterpoint and ROTS but purple sabers represent a precariousness like a chaotic neutral. Miltiades
I used orange and viridian as my lightsaber colors in KotOR II, so I'll be a little bit disappointed if they're not in there. I'm also not a fan of restricting colors to alignment, KotOR never did such thing. Maybe the goal is to more easily identify enemy Force users, but since a dark aligned Jedi can have red and a light aligned Sith blue and green, I'm guessing that's not it. I suppose. On the other hand, if (if?) I was a darksider, I could care less about color restriction. I'd use whatever color I damn want!

Darth Avlectus
Gameplay: DEATH PENALTY: So I guess you die the first time and you could summon the death probe droid almost immediately or return to medcenter. (I wonder where I have seen this before, where you get killed and you wake up later on at the hospital? ) If a friend is nearby and tries to revive you you can 'accept help'. Die again w/in 30 minutes and you'll have to wait 20 seconds before you can call upon the death probe. Longer time to wait every time you die. At which point you might just return to medcenter and restore clock. Now if it took several hours to get someplace, frankly, I don't mind being made to wait up to a half an hour or anything more that is still LESS than the hours of time it took me to get there. I never played an MMO before, though. In the works. COMPANIONS: aside from droids on your ship, you can have up to 5 [unique?] companions with you. I thought there were default character companions? Do we get custom people like some bar bouncer or a crazed taxicab/postal person about to flip out? Can I pick up that wench on the street corner? LIGHTSABERS: Whatever is decided, I suppose it's only minor. Seems a tad ridiculous but maybe red needs to have that mystique to it? I'm not sure about that... I have seen more vids and yellow is in one--iirc either the sith warrior or jedi knight advanced class vids. There is that bluegreen, a little different from cyan in some pics I've seen. It would not surprise me if other colors would be available on a special basis like they're hidden or something. Or perhaps other legendary crystals. So far as exceptions; Jedi: Adi Gallia used a "crimson" blade--she was a goody-goody jedi. Kyp Durron used a (I can't tell if it's more red or pink) blade. As mentioned Depa Billiba used an orange-ish blade at some point before she turned to the dark side, and it was all green by that point. Ki Adi Mundi had a violet one and a blue one which accidentally turned green momentarily at the battle of geonosis. A'Sharad Hett, another Jedi, used a red blade. On the dark side: C.A.D. said it best basically "I'll weild any dang color I want regardless." Sith: Exar Kun invented the double bladed saber and it was blue as previously mentioned, Karness Muur had yellow as mentioned, Darth Traya had 3 violet blades she wielded telekinetically (obviously), and Freedon Nadd wielded a brnoze/orange shoto saber. Revan had a second blade of violet...or so it appears in the vision. That elite assassin at the trayus core entryway had one viridian short saber. Darth Bane previously had a violet blade and it was canonized until the Bane novel trilogy retconned it. That's ok, he got a curved hilt lightsaber. Dark jedi: Some dark Jedi in KOTOR had violet blades. Sa Cuis (Sah Queez) used one red and one white blade. Hethrir used a silver blade. Have not played dark forces 2:Jedi knight. Played all the rest, though so going from memory: Though Jerec's blade was red, Yun had a yellow blade. Boc Aseca used 2 blue-violet (indigo?) blades. Pic used a short orange saber/sith daggar. Belonged to yoda at some point. Gorc used a lightclub which was orange. Maw wielded a bronze saber. Sariss wielded blue.
