Proto Posted December 16, 2001 Posted December 16, 2001 Hi everyone! I'll tell you what would i like to see in JK2 MOST: It's the certain solution of jedi speed. In JK it was barely useful as it was hard to control kyle's movement. I would like to see something like the "bullet time" from Max Payne, but with one difference: you move normally, only your opponents and everything else slows down. Damn, it would be cool to enter room full of troopers and cut'em all before they can realise what's up. Ofcourse it couldn't exist in Mplay, but in single is would be cool... What do you think?
Agen Posted December 16, 2001 Posted December 16, 2001 Agh another bullet time post... force speed just needed some time to get used to...... and u could use it in mp.
CaptainRAVE Posted December 16, 2001 Posted December 16, 2001 That would be copyright .....it was pretty cool in Max Payne though. Without that the game would have been rubbish.
DeathBoLT Posted December 16, 2001 Posted December 16, 2001 In JK it was barely useful as it was hard to control kyle's movement. force speed and force jump are probably the two most important powers in the game.
Proto Posted December 16, 2001 Author Posted December 16, 2001 Ok, I've exagerated a little bit- I mean: it dodn't look as it should from the perspecitive of the jedi. Of course it was very useful, in certain situatins it was even necessery...
CaptainRAVE Posted December 16, 2001 Posted December 16, 2001 I know what you mean. When you had four stars next to force speed and were running it looked really stupid. I know Jedi have fast reflexes, but its unlikely their going to be that fast
StephenG Posted December 16, 2001 Posted December 16, 2001 Originally posted by Agen_Terminator Agh another bullet time post... force speed just needed some time to get used to...... and u could use it in mp. Yet another Max Payne "bullet time" post. this is number what? 2,3? 4? i would like to the the old force speed from JK used again in JO with forces trails (like shadows behind kyle)
Jedi Howell Posted December 16, 2001 Posted December 16, 2001 check out SWQ: http://swtc.telefragged.com/ it does the trails on f_speed and f_jump beta 2 is lookin' good, too. i'm a beta tester... jh
Tap[RR] Posted December 16, 2001 Posted December 16, 2001 Meh!! Shadows.. shadows are out dated, force speed should have motion blurr... which is much better than shadows, Since it makes it look as if he's moving really fast , instead of just black shadowey kyles following him...

Thats what i meant by force trails.
CaptainRAVE Posted December 16, 2001 Posted December 16, 2001 I think the best effect was when Kyle would use a force power and blue particle thingys would come from him. I think they could do a great effect when he uses a force power with the Quake III engine.
SlowbieOne Posted December 16, 2001 Posted December 16, 2001 Force Speed was one of my favorite powers, and I had no trouble running around at top speed. I guess it's not for everyone though. I say if they change anything with it, get rid of that annoying Force Speed sound.
CaptainRAVE Posted December 16, 2001 Posted December 16, 2001 I didnt find it a problem. It just looked really dull. Especially with the primative animations
Agen Posted December 16, 2001 Posted December 16, 2001 I found it quite easy.. i was prancing aroudn at top speed like a homocidal maniac.
Proto Posted December 16, 2001 Author Posted December 16, 2001 I don't like that idea with visible blue particles. There's nothing like this in the movie, so what are those extra fireworks for?
Agen Posted December 16, 2001 Posted December 16, 2001 I think it was so u could tell the difference from a fast moving rail det and and a fast moving speed trail...
CaptainRAVE Posted December 16, 2001 Posted December 16, 2001 Originally posted by Proto I don't like that idea with visible blue particles. There's nothing like this in the movie, so what are those extra fireworks for? Just to look amazing of course and show off the engine
Jedi Howell Posted December 17, 2001 Posted December 17, 2001 Q2 can do that motion-blur style stuff and the particle effects to an extent, so i dont see why Q3 couldn't do it. might be done in a mod, but its possible in the least. im quite sure they'll hv something spectacular for f_speed. motion blurs or something. jh
Wilhuf Posted December 17, 2001 Posted December 17, 2001 Force speed is a central part of Jedi Knight gameplay. Nothing like four star speed with jump, flying through the levels and picking off your targets. Although a speed cooldown period between speed bursts would help in Jedi Outcast so that players wouldn't have a continuous stream of hypervelocity to tap into. In Jedi Outcast, Force Speed should be used judiciously for attack, quick retreat, and to access powerups, but with a cost. It shouldn't be available as a continuous means of transportation. There should be a brief waiting period, a cooldown, between each use. Cooldown adds a bit more strategy than the obvious tactic of just leaving it on 95% of the time. This would encourage more interactivity between gamers, since retreat wouldn't be a trivial matter of just running away at high velocity. (Although it is fun to do high-velocity pursuit in the original Jedi Knight.) Gamers would have to plan and ration their force speed.

CaptainRAVE Posted December 17, 2001 Posted December 17, 2001 I prefered force jump. You could get into loads of secret areas useing this and places that you werent supposed to. I found this much much more fun
Vagabond Posted December 17, 2001 Posted December 17, 2001 One way of implementing Wilhuf's idea is to make increased proficiency with Force Speed an expensive power to use, in terms of expended Force mana. Want to put four stars on Force Speed? Fine - that will cost you 80% of your Force mana, which takes a noticable amount of time to regenerate. Conversely, let's say one only put one star on Force Speed. Now you can still run much faster than the typical mortal, but still roughly 75% slower than someone with four stars on Force Speed, and you've only consumed 20% of your Force mana, leaving you enough juice to use the Force in other endeavors. I'm not suggesting these exact percentages or amounts, but something along these lines so that if you do bump your Force Speed up to the max, then you'll pay the price for your lack of vision...Jedi
wardz Posted December 17, 2001 Posted December 17, 2001 I am glad we will see the end of the stars in SP anyway, that means we wont have to trade off some force powers, and instead we can reasonable proficient in all of them. it is ludicrous to make you choose IMO, if you're a jedi you should be able to do most things... wardz
