Could you resist the dark side?

Ok we all know that without the Dark side there would be no light side and that everybody has a dark side it's just a matter of willpower as to whether or not you give in to the temptation.

So my question is how many of you could really resist the dark side??? Have you ever done something you know you shouldn't but did it anyway? Or something you really wanted and tried to get it the easy way or fast way? We all have if you say you haven't then you are either a saint or you are lying to yourself. I know that I like to think of myself as a good person but I know I'm not 100% pure and innocent. It's all a balance of good and evil, Dark and light within ourselves and we will all be tested throughout our lives. I can compare this to my evil habit of smoking where I know it's bad for me and could do me serious damage but I have tried to give up and it's not easy. It's something I enjoy and it's addictive it's much easier to keep smoking than to give up but I will give up one day I know it.

I don't think any Jedi has not been tempted by the dark side but some have had the strength to say no and some have turned to the Dark. It's a very fine line that the Jedi tred. So should we not be more sympathetic to the lost souls that have been sucked into that dark side and try to save them rather than kill them?

It isn't good to mix Trek with Wars but would the Vulcans be the best Jedi as they have complete control over their emotions and we all know that "fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, and hate leads to suffering." So having control over all your emotions would mean you would be at a big advantage when it came to being tempted by the dark side.

Your comments and flames alike all welcome.

Welcome to the forums, Lord Slart. Check my sig for your welcome gift. ;)

My own feeling is that we each have a little darkness lurking within us...but it is more a primal instinct rather than anything truly evil. I think we all have the capacity to do things that might be construed as evil...but our sense of morality usually kicks in and tells us it's not a good idea.

And as this topic is not directly JKII related, I'm going to move it to the Swamp.

Wait, was the question whether we would use "dark side" powers in SP? That's what it came accross as from this side of the screen. As for me, yes, at least the first time through. The second time I think I'll do the same, but trying to kill as few enemies as possible. After that I have no idea. I may just go to MP.

I was trying to ask both really whether you would choose dark or light in the game aswell as your thoughts on if your real life descision might effect your choice in the game. I think you would choose dark or light in the game as StarScrap said for the uses it has in the game and may play it twice to see which was better. But i thought you couldn't choose in the SP game you just get all abilities?

well... being a jedi no longer seems as cool as it used to. Since Ep1 it seems that you can't really do much as a jedi... can't be scared, can't love, can't really feel much of anything... sounds like vulcans would make the best jedi... but being a jedi wouldn't be very interesting...

i think i would go for more of a Kyle/Luke balanced type approach...

it seems all young light jedi who have importance dabble in the dark side someway... anger is the only way that luke defeted vader, both times... he looked pretty pissed off even in RotJ when he sliced vaders hand, and obi was was driven by anger at the end Eps 1. so it seems to me, the only reason light jedi are light is, they either have no great obstical to over come, or that they have the strength to stop using the dark side, once their task is accomplished...

Guest Wolverine

I'd be just like Kyle Katarn. I'd try to use the force but find out that I just couldnt resist the dark side and would give the force up.

Obi-Wan utterly failed to defeat Maul until he calmed down, though. Immediately after Maul pushes him into the pit he regains focus and "comes back to the Light", as it were. :)

And didn't Luke turn to the dark side at some point?

Hmmm....you would do well to remember that Ep I is really historical chronicaling. I have no way on knowing what it would be like NOW (per se), but let us just go with most recent. That would be Luke running the Jedi Temple. As the organization is smaller it is also less strict.

Although I find it interesting that from the previews it seems like love is not what shoved Anakin to the dark side, but rather the ban on love.

Hmm reminds me of a book trilogy I was reading "The wind on fire"

In the first book one of the heros falls pray to a sort of dark force called the Mora which is basicly a huge army of children with swords obssessed with killing. He manages to escape though. However in the second book he is fighting this powerful guy and cannot do it so he calls upon that power again to defeat him. But once he is dead calms down.

And in Ep1 Obi wan was only tempted to use the darkside.
