Is anyone else mad about LOTR?

I have been so engrossed in the SW forums that I have neglected other forums that I watch. I just got back from the LOTR forum and I am absolutley stunned and upset over how much they are changing from the books to the movies!!

I am the type of guys who wants to see as much of the original in the adaption as possible, but from what I have seen, they are changing whole portions of the story! Including characters in major scenes that have just small parts in the book (ARWIN) and the leaving out whole parts that are very important to the story (SHELOB)!!

I know, I know, there is only two or three hours to cover this huge story, but why change it all around?

Just wondering if anyone else thought the same way I did!

There's only so much you can do with an adaptation. For three+ hours, I think Peter Jackson did a great job. I'm a Tolkien freak and although they did leave out some things, it wasn't enough to make the movie unwatchable. It's okay if they leave out certain things, just as long as they stay true to the books.

I can't help but think you are a bit...Mistaken. This is The Fellowship of the Ring, not the entire trilogy. I assure you we will see plenty of Shelob in TTT. The main thing left out of FotR was Tom Bombadil and the old forest. I am also kind of disapointed that they didn't show the barrow wight scene, but they would have to put Tom in for that ;). Other than that, I think FotR was done quite well. :)

Guys.....Shelob's been pushed back to the beginning of RotK. We won't be seeing her in TTT. :)

So why are you even complaining If you loved it, Akbar? :)

Books and movies are completely different things and have to be completely different things. The movie would have just been a documentary of the book if it was done like you wanted. ;) Some things that work in books just can't work in movies. Plain and simple.

Peter Jackson did an amazing job of telling the movie version of the story. :rhett:

i really wanted bombadil in there 2. it would have been great. oh well. i personnally think it would have been awsome if they had left it like it was and had a much longer movie. at least they should have ket in glorifindel!

Guys, Bombadil is the perfect example of someone who worked in the book but wouldn't work on screen. He would not have helped the movie at all and would have disturbed the over flow.

You don't just stop in the middle of a fast paced movie to spend time with a fat dancing fruity guy in the woods. :D

Now dont get me wrong. I think the movie was excellent, but I have read stuff from the director and others that BIG changes are coming in the next movie and the final installement as well.

Its just makes me mad when they take something that has been around for so long and make it more "Non Fan friendly" Look at LOTR sales since the movie came out. there was a time, up until mid feb at least that you could not even get the books! I think the original story is out there for enough people, we dont nned to change it around to include stars who play insignificant characters or significatn events in the story from one point to another.

Just my 2 cents.

I really cannot understand you people. :D

I was not a LotR fan before I saw the movie. I knew nothing at all about the story. I went because the trailers looked kinda cool and I knew a bunch of people who recommended it.

I was blown away.

A NON-FAN.

For me, LotR now = The Star Wars movies on my favorites list, which considering my SW obsession is the highest compliment I can give a movie. ;)

So don't give me any bull about non fans not enjoying it or it being ruined by stuff being cut out. It was as close to perfect as you can GET. I haven't even read the book, but I can't wait for the next movie. If FotR was any indication, then the Two Towers will RULE. :D

That is all. ;)

Or not...:D

Kinda like saying the Death Star gets destroyed in the end
