Zorbid
Does someone remember of a version of Maniac, included in DOTT, that didn't look like that? I know that the version I show is bundled with some DOTT versions, but I played another, at a friend's, but he deleted it to make room on his HD. Darnn
I have an older, crappier-looking version. What of it? You're really better off with the other one.
SamNMax
Well then thats a cryin shame isnt it? But at least you don't have Maniac Mansion for NES.

SamNMax
Ok, I'm gonna be honest with everybody, I've never had a C64. Rest In Peace, C64.
Scummbuddy
i wish the better looking maniac mansion came with DOTT. im not sure why they wouldn't. the only thing i can think of is to conserve space, but jeez, Maniac Mansion was not that big at all. anyone else know why they chose the earlier version? Serge
Two reasons could be: 1. that the old "crappy" version doesn't require any setup at all, so it's easier to run as an "easter egg". 2. that the old "crappy" version actually looks relatively similar to the original C64 version compared to the new one. The new version (the one Zorbid posted screenshots from) looks very close to the Amiga version as I remember it. The logo, the blue heads, the camouflage bed, the gradients that look like Deluxe Paint's airbrush tool - Serge
Darnn
Have you actually used this program? I've downloaded it once, just for the heck of it.... Paint Brush is better.
Serge
Deluxe Paint? Yeah, used DPaint II, III and IV on the Amiga. Paintbrush is NOT better And with the advent of (I think it was) DPaint II's animation features, it had features and an intuitive work flow that I haven't seen equalled in any PC graphics program. - Serge
A_Lee_N
well.. GFX2 is as good as Deluxe Paint on amiga if you ask me, and then we have Pro Motion for windows that works alot like Deluxe Paint. // A_Lee_N
Benny
Its not just features that made Dpaint good, like a lot of amiga programs it was the overall feel and "atmosphere" of the package. I dont know, its hard to put my finger on it, its wrapped up in waves of nostalgia:p The best way I can put it is, when you used Dpaint you knew you were using something special, it was one of the flagship amiga packages and every time I used it I just thought...."cool". No paint package since has ever "felt" quite the same. One thing I am certain of though is that its far, far better than paintbrush.
elTee
Ok......... The picture is of the Amiga version. It was also released on the PC with these graphics, and is still available on the LEC website. The version on DOTT was the original because the game came on floppies. The crappy graphic version is smaller. Don't forget that MI2 would have been a lot bigger if they hadn't had to cut scenes to fit the game on 7 floppies. By the time of the CD-ROM talkie, they weren't gonna re-make the game just for that little bit. They were hardly gonna sit down and say "hey, these new CD things rock. What advances can we make? Well, there's sound for one - oh, and we can put the decent version of Maniac Mansion on DOTT" were they?? Besides, it adds to the charm. If only the TV had episodes of the sitcom as well as that diamond salesman...
