I Pledge Allegiance.

Nute - I doubt you'd see Creationism taught in a Catholic school, beyond perhaps a reference or two.

Anyway, here's another thing to think about.

One nation under God

Think about that a minute. Does that really sound like the United States of America? I would say absolutely not. There are something like 120 million Americans with no religion whatsoever. Oh, if you ask, they may say they are Christian, but these are the same people that vote in favor of euthanasia and abortion. They don't go to church, they don't pray, and they probably don't do anything else you would consider religious. Take the words out, leave them in - it doesn't matter; we are NOT one nation under God. And it goes beyond a simple lack of religion. This is a nation of every man for himself. This is a nation of people who do what the government says not because true authority comes from God and they wish to respect that or because it is for the common good, but because they will be fined or imprisoned if they are caught. This is a nation of people so full of pride and so devoid of humility that they are not even capable of even stopping to consider that there MIGHT ACTUALLY BE a God. We're not one nation under God. We might as well get used to that.

Alright Zargon, get one thing straight. I am the biggest patriot you will ever find. And, I can be a liberal too. I'm in favor of burning the flag, I'm in favor of pornography on the web. Why? Because those are our fundamental freedoms as Americans. People are accusing me of being closeminded, but the truth is, I just see thing a different way than you. As for you foreign people, I don't have anything against Britain or Austrailia, that was a joke. As for the Hindus and Muslims: too bad. This nation was founded under the principle of a Judeo-Christian God, and that's the way it is. The fact that some people have had to take us away from that with their manipulation of the system is a sad thing. As for the schools, I'll just say this. In 2000, 8 billion dollars were unaccounted for in the education budget. They simply don't know where that money went. And you're telling me that public schooling is doing a good job?

As for being a religious zealot? Fine with me. I'd rather be a zealot than you any day.

"When they took the Ten Commandments, they killed our children: " The images still haunt me of students running out of Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado.

"When they took out the Pledge, they killed our patriotism: " You may not say the Pledge, but at least you have respect for the flag.

"When they take out God, they'll kill the country: " I guarantee that when the name of God can no longer be said in the public schools, this country will fall within 10 years. No doubts.

Oh, and I have to address the evolution issue. I'd meant to end on that point, but I just remembered this. The theory of Evolution cannot exist. It is simply not possible, by one simple law, that science itself discovered. The Second Law of Thermodynamics states that all matter and energy, by nature, will decay, not create new things. Look around guys, it's the truth.

Finally, one more thing. Zargon, once again it seems I must rebutt a point that you so rudely made. You said that the majority of people agreed with the Anti-pledge decision. I would have to diasagree with that. Congress, the lawmakers, said the pledge the day after it happened. I have heard six different radio stations that have Pledge advertisements. Prior to the Pepsi 400 Saturday night in Daytona Beach, Florida, 250,000 NASCAR fans (that's more in one night than have been at the last three Super Bowls) stood and said that pledge in unison. Oh, and by the way, NASCAR is one of the most patriotic sports. All the time they sport American flag paintschemes. When you consider that it sports 75 million regular fans, the VAST majority of whom object to this decision, and an even larger majority in my home state, which carries 11 electoral votes, and you can't go anywhere in New York without seeing an American Flag these days, that's a majority in and of itself. Whichever way you look at it. Now who should be saying "I" and not "we"?

As for the Hindus and Muslims: too bad.

OK. So you are willing to try to FORCE an American citizen to make an oath to a god they don't believe in in order to protect freedom in this country?

If taking the words "under God" out of the pledge is a step closer to socialism in your eyes, then how would you classify that? To me forcing someone to betray thier core religious beliefs in favor for the beliefs chosen by the state isn't freedom at all, and is only practiced in Communist regimes and Theocracies like the Taliban.

An alternative would be to close the nation's doors to all non-Christian outsiders, and/or to force conversion to Christianity on everyone who wants to be a citizen. That is not exactly freedom either.

America was founded on principals that allow it to be a great and strong nation despite the fact that it's citizens may not worship in the same manner.

Oh,.. and the fact that there are now many types of antibiotics that are completely ineffective against strains of bacteria that were once succeptable to those same antibiotics but have now become totally resistant is proof enough for me that evolution has been at work within my lifetime. Natural selection, using beneficial mutations to adapt and thrive in an otherwise harsh environment, and all that. Textbook example if you ask me. Evolution doesn't care if you believe in it or not,.. it just keeps on going. :joy:

I simply prefer to try and not live in a religous cave, but thats my opinion.

"When they took the Ten Commandments, they killed our children: " The images still haunt me of students running out of Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado.

Thats rediculous and has nothing to do with that what so ever.

"When they took out the Pledge, they killed our patriotism: " You may not say the Pledge, but at least you have respect for the flag.

I say the pledge, I simply don't require it to have 'under god' in it. I love the pledge the allegiance and what it stands for. I simply have more respect for our flag. As for flag burning, yes, sadly its legal in all cases. I only dislike it when people burn it for no specific reason, mind yo uit should technically be burned if it touches the ground I believe.

"When they take out God, they'll kill the country: " I guarantee that when the name of God can no longer be said in the public schools, this country will fall within 10 years. No doubts.

I think edlib got that one for me........

Oh, and by the way, NASCAR is one of the most patriotic sports(and most redneck by far, its not a sport, its driving in a CIRCLE. I also don't think drag racing is a spprt, CART and F1, yes, rally racing, oh god yes, but NASCAR, whatever) All the time they sport American flag paintschemes. When you consider that it sports 75 million regular fans, the VAST majority of whom object to this decision, and an even larger majority in my home state, which carries 11 electoral votes, and you can't go anywhere in New York without seeing an American Flag these days, that's a majority in and of itself. At first, no one seemed to care, then after a few days, popular opinion spoke and the masses agreed, OH MY GOD THAT NEVER HAPPENS!!!! PEOPLE CANNOT LARGELY CHANGE THEIR OPINION IN A MATTER OF DAYS!!!!! oh wait, people can do whatever the hell they want, after all, it is the United States.

Now please, tell me one thing, how in the hell do 'pledge of allegiance' and 'american flag' become interchangable?!?!?! Yu cannot go anywhere without seeing an american flag, I helped put up ou new window banner at work, and OH MY GOD, its a huge american flag banner with our name on it!!! I don't recall ever caring whether 'under God' was in it or not. I said the pledge with about 25 thousand other people in my town in teh park right before the fireworks display on the 4th, then I sang the national anthem and saluted as they lowered both the American Flag and the POW MIA flag to half mast, for a moment of silence before they lowered and folded them. The pledge of allegiance was originally penned without 'Under God' in there, I was simply playing devil's advocate if I did say so. You can call this rudeness, i cann it dry humor, sarcasm, nd a bit of me being a jackass, but whatever you call it, its still you having a very skewed view of the world.(obviously in my 'skewed opinion')

Thrawn, i haven't said the pledge in several years. teachers have tried, but i refused. why? not because i'm not patriotic...

it's a waste of my time. Honetly, it's a waste of a good minute. in fact, why the hell do i even need to recite some pledge to prove that i'm loyal to this country, hmmm? my freedom, my choice. so really, this whole God thing in the pledge is really a big waste of everyones time, and i hope you all get over it.

SECOND, mr. Religion, I, am ATHIEST. God has had no meaning or value in my life for several years. ohh, you're gonna damn me to hell, ohhhhhh.... wait, i'm ATHIEST, don't give a crap. in fact, my whole sect of friends are athiest, and i get the vibe that it's kinda starting to catch on, especially in the youth.

Does this mean the country is screwed? nah, i think it's a rather refreshing change from teh hypocritical BS that teh Church spews out every so often. i mena, "Thou shalt no kill"? yeah, sure, more like "Thou shall try really really hard not to kill anybody, un less they believe in a different invisible man than me". You Christians are litterally, to conservative. it's the frickin' 21st century, and you're still in that 1950's mentality that the COMMUNITSTS ARE COMMING!! OHHH!!!

Get back into the era we've all agreed to living in. 2002.

And honestly, instead of ****ing around with this ****, why don't we try to do something more productive for teh species. Like a cure for AIDS, or Cancer, hell, Emphysema and Parkinson's disease still need cures, and so does Alhzhiemers.

So much for God giving us cures, and so much for us finding them, because we're all to cought up in petty stupid differences.

Doesn't that make you proud to be a human? I'm filled to the brim with joy.

Don't embarrass yourself any further until you understand what the Second Law of Thermodynamics actually means. The way you have applied it here is not even close. Don't get me wrong, I'm no athiest, but we have to be correct in our usage of things if we're going to argue and not sound like we don't know what we're talking about. Although I have to admit, I don't know what Evolution has to do with anything in this case.

They are. You'll see. In a decade or less, China will start flexing its muscle that it certainly has.

Congrads, you've mentioned things they're starting to think are actually uncurable. Technology has to hit a wall at some point.

China?

You still have to contend with the USSR which is still there. They never left. They just changed a flag and the ranking of their leader.

Oh come ON. By this logic, EVERY SINGLE TIME a government official or document does NOT MENTION GOD, he or it is IMPOSING ATHESIM ON YOU!!!. You have mentioned God and Christianity several times on this thread, so STOP IMPOSING YOUR BELIEFS ON MY CHILDREN!

That's exactly what the ruling says. So I guess you agree with it after all.

dude, you think just cuz they were big back then means 10 years later they are now, they are continually shrkining their armed forces

Well seeing as how you lack substantial evidence that they are shrinking, i'll ignore that message.

do you read the news often?

CNN Headline News, EVERY DAY.
