greedo626
I have a theory about atoms. I think that solar systems are atoms. with the sun being the atom and the planets being the little things that orbit atoms(I can't remeber what they're called. oh wait, neutrons. right). nuetrons are the planets orbiting the atoms. the thing is that our whole galaxy is like the shoe of some guy or something and my shoe contains a galaxy. it's weird if you think about it. atom our solar system a galaxy I dont have a picture but a magnified atom looks alot like the galaxy. Tyrion
First, the things that orbit the center are called electrons and the nuetrons have equal electrons and neutrons. Second,I dont like that theory because I feel so small with it. Third, how far would it go? Would each atom go on,so that each atom has almost infinite of atoms, which have almost infinite of atoms, which have almost infinite atoms,....ect.? techsurfer
For one thing electrons orbit the nucleus (which contain both protons and neutrons). But they don't actually orbit them - they pop up and disappear again (an example of quantum weirdness)!
Darth-Nasty
electrons orbit the atom electrons are negativly charged you are suggesting planets are electrons therefore negativly charged planets are not negativly charged the sun isnt positvly charged your theory does not work what keeps the solar system working is gravity not charge

Clem
actually a magnified atom doesnt look like that ..... its complex trust me nice idea .... but flawed edit: atoms arent the smallest things atoms are made up of neutrons protons and electrons .... which are smaller all of these are made up of other things .... but i dont know what they are .... too deep a physics for me
Darth Knight
well that would be werid but i mean like i don't know that is just to werid
JrKASperov
How much wrongness here! let me clean this up: -Electrons orbit the nucleus, they are negatively charged -The nucleus consists of neutrons, which are neutrally charged, and protons, which are positively charged... -Neutrons and protons arent actually the smallest thing in the universum, neither are atoms, what they know now is that socalled neutrinos are smallest -protons and neutrons are made of three quarks each... -neutrinos belong to the leptons, the electron is an example of a lepton... So far the physics lesson by me:D

JrKASperov
Well yeah sometimes I doubt about my mental abilities, I just shouldnt be knowing so much about quarks and leptons and baryons and all with my 16 years.... thats just insane.... And to think I am not a nerd or anything, I actually DO have a girlfriend(could get two if I wanted:D)
matt--
You should see the ancient thread on if droids possess souls. That's a really philosophical/religious thread. That was a long time ago tho. Anyways, JrKASperov hit the nail on the head. And I really don't think we're on atoms...

Kyth'emos
Ok correction, quarks are the smallest thing in the universe. edit - no actually I take that back, an electron is 1/1800 the size of a proon which is aproxamitly the same size as a neutron. so an electron is still 3/1800 the size of a quark. matt--
And what about photons, the massless particle that is both a particle and a wave!
Clem
not quite true light is with particles (photons) or waves .... photons arent waves u can show that electrons are waves however .... u can diffract them (a property of waves) and im REALLY not gonna get into wave particle duality!! SharaFett
yes exactly what clem said. photons are packets of quanta. it is because of the nature of photons that electrons dont move in a perfect spherical orbit around the atom. they move in a definite space, but are in random order. and it is also mathematically and scientifically impossible to know BOTH the velocity and location of an electron at one point in time. And i dont know the point of this thread
