TiE23 Posted October 15, 2002 Posted October 15, 2002 yes, jumping, flying!!! jumping is escaping gravity flying it to keep from falling god I hate these threads! Mod patrol!!!
Tyrion Posted October 15, 2002 Posted October 15, 2002 Actually... if you are able to make a new dimension, you can "change" persay, the laws of physics. It wont defie the ones in this dimension, but it will in the new one. And,who knows, maybe some creatures in this dimension have created new ones or can deny ours?

Marth Posted October 15, 2002 Author Posted October 15, 2002 Then how can they be defied if you know how

Marth Posted October 15, 2002 Author Posted October 15, 2002 why too complicated, i was talking to lexx anyway I agree wiht you though making an extra dimension Originally Posted by lexx: I think someone needed help with his homework!no i have the day off today and besides in sciencce we haven't gotten to physics yet im just curious
PhantomHelix Posted October 15, 2002 Posted October 15, 2002 i suppose they can....but jumping and flying arent defying physics, because what goes up must come down...and when you jump, you go back down, and when you fly, you start to go down, but you flap your wings (this is for birds, not humans duh ) you push away more, which is like extended jumping.....but i suppose its possible......
SPY_jmr1 Posted October 15, 2002 Posted October 15, 2002 no, flaping wings is not like jumping at all... *sigh*.... birds work in the same way planes do, that is, with aerodynamics... here is a simple way of saying it, http://www.howstuffworks.com/airplane2.htm but the much more complex (and correct) version can be found here: http://www.howstuffworks.com/airplane3.htm on birds, all of the lift is created from the wing itself, not the flaping. flaping, is a VERY complex and not understood way for the bird to move itself(and hence, the lift source) thrugh the air. if a bird were to stop flaping, you ask, what would happen??? very little. it would slowly decend like any other aircraft, but its not gonna be falling out of the sky. what about hummingbirds/I have seen birds at a standstill when landing, what gives??? simple. those wings and the flaping action being complex as it is, is able to move the wings in a manner to keep flying speed moving over the wings without having to move the entire craft(in this case, the bird) it uses a INSANE amount of energy, which is why hummingbirds are the size they are, and why you have never seen(and never will) a duck/goose move like this. a large bird simply cannot make the power needed for such a oppration(sp?) /rant:) later I am gonna make a Q/A thread about avaiton for you guys
PhantomHelix Posted October 15, 2002 Posted October 15, 2002 as Buzz Lightyear would say (dont ask) "Im not flying, Im falling with style!"
PhantomHelix Posted October 15, 2002 Posted October 15, 2002 thank you termie! well, im not sure what it would be called, but....
Absurd Posted October 15, 2002 Posted October 15, 2002 Originally posted by Marth The laws of physics can it be defied? Use the force.
Guardian Omega Posted October 15, 2002 Posted October 15, 2002 As for the jumping thing, given my limited knowlegde of physics (8th grade LOL!), when you jump, action and reaction force occurs. (Well it does, because if you jump on the ground and if it can't support it, you're gonna break it!) The force used to jump is still there, but gravity's velocity can accelerate down. So it's gonna get faster to pull you down until you hit the ground......
CagedCrado Posted October 16, 2002 Posted October 16, 2002 I dont know if somebody has said this but in our dimension the laws of physics change on the atomic level, they are so small there are no forces like friction etc so and object will always defy all laws of physics except that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction, i also agree with the other dimension thing in which laws of physics are different.
BCanr2d2 Posted October 16, 2002 Posted October 16, 2002 The laws of physics are not laws, only commonly accepted theories. So, when someone finds a different theory, to them the currently accepted theory is defying what they believe the laws of physics to be. Light is the easiest one to prove, it defies the laws of physics about how it acts in certain situations. Is it a wave, or is it particle, and under which theory does it act? To defy the laws of physics is to really do or discover an unresearched part of the world, to which no theory has been placed upon it..............
CagedCrado Posted October 16, 2002 Posted October 16, 2002 That would fall under what i said, light is on the atomic level, and the laws of physics can in no way be proven wrong in this dimension, they are laws. Also at the atomic level there are other laws of physics.
thehomicidalegg Posted October 16, 2002 Posted October 16, 2002 the Laws of Physics are accepted explaination that have been proven to be true in the reality/dimension we inhabit. These are laws and may not be broken under current understanding of our reality. However, a better understanding may improve these laws in its representation and explaination of the physics of this world In different realities and/or dimensions these Laws do not apply. There are only a small amount of Laws in comparison with the amount of theories and hypothesis thrown around. these may be proved to become laws and more often than not be disproved as our knowledge and understanding of science improves.
PhantomHelix Posted October 16, 2002 Posted October 16, 2002 um.....ok, im confused now.....
