Finished a jk2 video.

The Truthful Liar

Recommended Posts

I've finished a movie with a saber battle showing off some tricks in my upcomming map. You will need Windows Media Player to play the following videos. Just right click the link and select "Save as", or if you use Download accelerator (which I highly recommend) then copy the link and paste it into the program.

High res 5:34 min (800x600 - 123MB) speedmap.avi: Click.

Medium res 5:34 min (400x300 - 61MB) speedmap_medium.wmv: Click.

Low res 5:34 min (200x150 - 28MB) speedmap_low.wmv: Click.

Tell me what you think of the gameplay and flow of the map or movie action quality! Anything apreciated.

It's great as a first attempt. I'm sure you learned a lot from it. However, I do have a few crits... if you don't want to hear them, ignore the rest of my post. ;)

1) Editing... you've got to edit or change the camera angle to create some drama. Videos should be dramatic.

2 ) More editing... try cutting to the more exciting parts, because a lot of the video was very repetitive... it was just like spectating a duel match, which is something I can watch very easily by joining any multiplayer duel and following someone for the duration of the fight.

3) Jazz it up - for your next video, do some cool stuff. Play with the slow-mo options. Use some cool transitions or filters to make your video look cool. All the stuff you did I can do already... show me some stuff I can't do, or be creative and make it look like you can do some amazing stuff. Do something other than a 5 and a half minute duel set to music.

Thanks for the constructive critism! I apreciate it very much. Let me just clarify one aspect first, the main intention for this video was to 'showcase' the map as well as add in some action.

1) In the next film probably will take place in the NRG Acid Plant map, 'So Deep' aka 'Neo' will be assisting me in adding different scenes and camera angles.

2) I'll try my best. :)

3) Of course, I was going to work on some neat slo motion effects and such, however since I'm rather new to movie editing I decided to not get ahead of myself. You can be certain to see filters added in my next video.

Cheers everyone, let me know how you like the movie after downloading it.

now i watched it....AMAZING MAP, i especially loved the hidden dueling area on top...the video needs a lot of editing to delete repetition...and i think it should be planned out more...meaning like ending the match with a cool move...adds massive drama until the final climatic blow.

Thanks, I thought that the pull+throw was good enough in the end, next time I'll be doing something in similar fashion except with slo motion.

Sweet video, but how did you convert the demo files into an .avi file?

There's a thread in the Valley by TK_Nutritious which explains how to do it all. Click.

Yes I was the stormtrooper. ; ) My map (along with two other maps I'm working on) will be included in the upcomming NRG Duel Map Pack scheduled for release around X-mas. :)

O sry dude, i downloaded the he high rez one and it didnt play right, now i downloaded the low one and the vids nice! very nice, how did u make a duel last that long  lol.

But i have a question about how YOU made it, ok i got all the stills out of my movie, the problem is that the program i use only takes .bmp stills and they are .jpeg. How did u turn them all into .bmp or did u turn each still one by one into .bmp?

That sounds like a good idea, anyone willing to assist us create an official NRG Map Pack video? (Consisting of battles in each finished map.) ;)

I was quite surprised myself that the duel lasted so long, I suppose it was due to the fact that Neo kept using drain all the time and I know how to survive. :)

Well, I used a program called "ACDsee" which can convert an entire amount of image files to another file type. Mind you, since bmp's are generally 1.5MB each, you'll probably need about 5-10 Gigs of space on your harddrive and lots of ram to perform this.

ya but that program sucks moose ballz for movies, id rather use windows movie maker, but i cant get the frames to go smoothly with that so id use the program i got thats really better, pjBmp2Avi, it keeps the size of the pics and the frames go along very nicely, its the one descried in the tutorial.

iif he used acdsee for that vid i am F***ing impressed! :D
