RpTheHotrod
edit- Inventory Screeshot removed. We decided it's best to not release any pictures until beta. We're programming an engine...so once we're finished, others can learn how our engine works and can make their own RPGs with it. This won't be sold (as far as I know). This is just for fun. We have succesfully programmed crafting into the engine (ie, dagger blade drops, and later on you find a dagger hilt, you can craft the item into a dagger). Potions will be different than normal. Instead of one use only, you can use amounts. So, if you have 90 health, and a potion heals 50 health, drink it and you get 100 health, but 40 health remains in the potion. You'll be able to see how much remains via a meter or picture. Any suggestion on what you'd like to see in an RPG engine?

Pnut_Man
Will this RPG engine be anything like RPG Maker 2000 ?
RpTheHotrod
Never seen it. We're building the ENGINE itself, so OTHERS can make RPGs. It will be turn based. Programming in C++ I'll be in charge of making the first RPG (sort of a "this is what you can do")
Tyrion
The potion system sounds alot like the potion system in Dungeon Siege. Anyways, for suggestions. Allow people to hunt animals(Deers,Beavers,Bears, ect.),and can skin them, and make leather stuff. Make smithing(You have to mine ore, then smelt them into the material, then craft it.) Make the contruction of bows and arrows(You have to chop down trees, then buy arrowheads and strings). That's my suggestions. (They were based off Fragaus Krynn's Tradeskills in NWN)
RpTheHotrod
Interesting, just one thing I forgot to mention It will be an advernture type RPG. You see through your guys eyes, and you move through room to room ina dungeon, so crafting would have to be limited to finding things, and practicing with them (like EQ). For example, you find a dagger hilt and dagger blade, you craft it and your skill goes up, but the harder the item, the more skill it requires to make. You'd have to practice with alot of daggers before you could construct longblades. Skinning is a good idea though, I'll tell that to my bro. Perhaps it could be used for leather armor or padding for fine plate
Father Torque
hmmmm sounds cool Rp could you tell me more in a PM so i could give suggestions:) I will be glad to give you some help:D Maybe you could get different ranks like head hunter or apprentice and live in a tribe:p just a thought. Also i like the skinning hunting and smithing idea how about getting a "smartness meter or bar that when reaches a certain line you get new items and what not Good luck:p
ckcsaber
Sounds like it is coming along well. I think the Might and Magic series is a good example for the type of RPG you are making.

RpTheHotrod
lol This will be in FIRST person, btw. Also, the FIGHTS are planned on being turned based, not exploration. For now, it's going to be an adventure type thing, where you see the room (facing a direction). You can turn left, and your guy appears to look to the left inside the room (there will be N, NE, E, SE, S, SW, W, NW to give more of a "being there" feeling). There will be inventory, crafting, exploring, fights, etc... How should the combat be like? Traditional with rolls? You make a decision (Attempt to evade and counter-attack next round? Try "Insert Flash Move Name Here" against the opponent?)? Also, I'm THINKING maybe when you come up to a situation, you have skill checks...like...eh... this scenario won't be in the game, but it's just a general idea You find yourself lying on the ground at a battlefield (was knocked out, I guess). Someone above you lifts their sword for a killing blow. You can see a picture of your surroundings and all, but you get options like Try to roll out of the way (agility check) Try do grab his arm/leg/whatever (strength check) or something like that. Of coarse, it's an idea, and currently not planned.
matt--
Will there be a multiplayer aspect? Will it be open source?
topshot
How about a strength training room? Maybe something like, 1 room you walk into has ninjas, another has armored guards, and the 3rd would have Mages. It would increase your character's strengths and decrease your weaknesses. Sound like a good suggestion? Gosh, am I repeating everything that was already said here? -Topshot
RpTheHotrod
We have done a "backdoor" for multiplayer so if it does become good enough, we can implement it. Hmmm, training rooms, interesting
RpTheHotrod
I'm testing a room right now. If you want to see two pictures (2 directions) of the room, click the following link. http://darkspireclan.net/msg/viewtopic.php?t=937&sid=0504ca78f15338a9a67b421d9aceb9c2 Any more ideas? I'm looking more for the ENGINE suggestions, than "game" suggestions. What would YOU like to see in an RPG (as in, an option)
