The Count
Do you think this will be possible, I doubt it but I hope so.
CanadianSurfer
They said they're going to release tools that will convert such things (i.e mods, maps, and models) before the game is to be released for the modding community.
Kengo
Wow, thats very good news.
Prime
Yes, I believe I've read somewhere that much in the way of mods and models can be ported over. This is one of the big advantages of staying with the QuakeIII engine...
razorace
It depends on how much they changed.
Toonces
Yeah, alough I'd bet that the segmentation would stay the same, along with the skeleton, but who knows what tags they may add, or what extra things we'll be able to do with the engine. The Count
Cool toonces just think we could play with your mace in JA how cool would that be then no one would have to bug anyone about making Mace how cool
Agen
They pretty much seem sure that they'll be able to port alot of the skins since it's the same engine they're using.
razorace
Don't get your hopes up. They already said they've changed the model format a bit.
Crowy
does that mean theyve changed it enough that you wont need a few thousand dollars to buy a modelling program?
Agen
I personally don't really care that much but they seem to be wanting to keep the skins portable and things.
razorace
Why would you think that? All we've really heard is that they "want" to make the game easier to mod. That's very vague.

They should put something to make all the jk2 models into the jk3 game.. That would not be good if they didn't... Like a lot of people have been waiting for plo koon to come out for jk2, if there wasn't a format for jk3 to convert all the jk2 models in jk3 then that would be very bad.. cause then all that time making Plo Koon would be for nothing.. unless people like jk2 better then jk3... It just a suggestion or a thought

CagedCrado
Id really love to see the ability to import new skeletons
razorace
You can already do that....it just takes a huge amount of coding/animations to intergrate it into the system.

Taos
I think that's great news for pretty much everybody! Thanks for finding that Hekx!
Emon
I doubt they would change the model format itself much, but I know they've changed the GHOUL2 system. Â Conversion probably involves new segments or bones or something simple like that.

According to Michael Chang Gummelt, they've made some changes:Â Originally posted by ChangKhan[RAVEN] Along these lines, I'm keeping in mind that a lot of people have made a lot of custom player and saber models and I want to make sure that those are still usable in the new game. Unfortunately, to optimize some things and to add certain features (and to make it more mod-friendly), we did make some changes to the model format. El_graco
that would be cool and i cant wait to play as plo koon in JA .......................if its out by then
razorace
Please note that Raven has said nothing about providing a direct converter to convert the models. I imagine by "tools" he means the details on the new model format so you can convert your models manually.
Guest Jolts
worst case is you have to rebind your model, not a big deal.
razorace
True, but many people won't go to the effort.
