The Video Game Thread

I just thunk up an idea! We need a thread exclusivly for the discussion of video games. AKA Reviews, codes, hints, etc. I'll start off with a brief question. Did anyone here play Goldeneye or Perfect Dark on N64? Especially the multiplayer.

Review:The Legend of Zelda:The Wind Waker-9/10

I recently borrowed my cousins Gamecube whilst they were moving, and they bought this game about 3 weeks before I borrowed it. I cannot stop playing this game. The only reason I'm not playing and instead posting is because it needs to cool down(I nearly overheated it). I can't find anything wrong with this game.

Mario Glof:Toadstool tour-7.5/10

I rented this game because my mom and dad wanted to play this. I played it and it was vey easy to pick up. I was progressing fine, when at the 4th tour, the game gets insanely difficult. It lost is's fun there, because it cheats you. No wind, no error, perfect shot, it was supposed to onto the fairway, it landed in the water. this game is good for a while, then screws you royally.

Please submit your own reviews for any gamem, old or new, and a rating of 0/10 to 10/10.I realise there are alot of threads like"Is *blank* good?", and things like that. So if you ever have a prob with games, ask here:D

I got some short review of a game chaps. ;)

Mafia: 8/10

This game is an excellent example of what good-storytelling, characters, and appropriate music can do to an average game. When you start playing the game, you feel the mood of the nineteen thirties. If a character dies you feel sad... this game can really get to you. Half of the game requires you to drive, which is very splended for me because the made all of the cars authentic replicas and sounds, and there is an excelent physics model for them, not to mention this game has great graphics. Now to the gameplay itself. The gameplay is great, the missions are very varried, original, and have lots of cinematic-like shootouts. Everytime you have a mission at a certian place, you must drive there, now for some places this may be a pain after driving through town 15 times (by the way, the city is huge!). Now you may ask why I deducted 2 points.

1. There is no quicksave, this is a real pain, but very realistic and makes you think before you ask... still though, it's a huge pain.

2. The racing mission, which is inpossible without a lot of practice or the patch.

In the end though, this game is a must-buy... so faghetaboutet, pick it up at your local tech store for 35 clams. :)

Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind: 9/10

Just the name makes it sound like a deep, rich RPG. This game has an excelent story and history. The developers took a lot of tiem making you feel like this place was authentic, and they suceeded. Graphics-wise this game is a real machine-killer, but if you got your monster rig that can conquer this beauty, the game is be gorgious. Most of the face textures are not so detailed, but the Astaris Female Beauty Mod has got those faces covered. Character-wise there are so many characters, but only a handful you will really remember well. Story-wise this game makes other RPGs (such as NWN or DS) look like a cheesy sci-fi movie. There is a dark brooding plot, with tons of twists and turns. You can tell the developers spent a lot of time on the story. Sound-wise this game is average. The music can get monotonous after a while, and I don't think a sword makes a *thud* sound. The sound is average, but there is always a mod you can download to add some more. The NPCs can also get on your nerves after they say "Outlander" 50 times. Gameplay-wise this game is awesome. It lets you be anything, do anything, and say anything. There are so many other quests and stories besides the main quest/story too. The combat is nothing to talk about really, there are three attacks for the melee weapons, and shooting arrows and star and bolts is just like a FPS, casting spells and such works very nicely though. So if you buy this game for the combat, be a mage. This game game is also extremely long! But that is good, because you'll always want more. Also, this game comes with an editor, so you can make your own missions, characters, buildings, weapons, clothes... and everything else you can imagine. There are tons of mods availible, each one of them is a blast. You'll never stop playing Morrowind once you have it. So in conclusion, get this game now for 30 gold coins, and I'll see you next summer once you're done with it. :)

KotOR

This game is the Best game for the X-box. No questions asked. It is a very compelling game with great visuals and storyline that begins slow at first but picks up pace near the middle of the game to create a compelling one at that. Perhaps the most exciting part of the game, like in all Star Wars games and movies, is becoming a Jedi.

The visuals are about 8.5-9.0. The character models are excellent and the animations, while some might get tenious (sp), they are fluid and exciting to watch.

Combat is controlled by the computer, but the player has control of the weapons the character uses, whether to run away, and what actions you choose to do, like throw a grenade, heal, etc. The AI is mediocre, some might run head long at you, but some might take cover.I have come across a few bugs where the A.I just stand there and take blows without relaliation, but i have only seen this happen a couple of times. You have an option of taking party members with you, depending on if there are any to take.

The audio in this game is fantastic. The sound that the Vibro-blades make as they clash is like your actually watching a medival fight! Swords clash, lightsabers whir, and blasters....well...blast

The selection of weapons is not scarce, but there aren't a pluthora of them neither.

All together, if you don't have to be a die hard Star Wars fan to enjoy this game ( although i am one ) The story is mediocre, but the visuals and gameplay more than make up for this hinderence. Pick this one up immediantly!

One of the most controvercial games has been made a gory, graphical sequal, and it's mediocre at best.

This game actually sets you up with a story to follow which kinda suprised me. You have to spend the week doing minial chores like get some milk at the grocery store, pick up a stack at the Butcher shop, mail bills etc. The way that you complete these tasks is what gives this game it's gruesome and fairly funny results. For example, instead of waiting in a long line for your milk, which you CAN do if you wanted to, you could either pee on some of the people in the line and have them flee in disgust, or you can just pop every simple mided citizen that stands in your way :D Fun AND entertaining. But this kind of formula does get sorta bland after 10 hrs, which is how long it took me to complete this game WHILE searching and destroying EVERYTHING.

Yes it is a short game, but in those short hours that you are playing it, you will have the most evil smile on your face as you kill, maime, lay down "your kinda justice" or just make people beg for mercy with lots of different weapons including some general ones like an M16, magnum pistol, and some molitove coctails, and some very odd ones like a cow's head ( you have to use it to get what it actually does :D) a super flamethower and, of cource, your own urination :p.

The game's Rag-doll graphics, while at times kinda screwy, are pretty good. Which is understandable sinse it IS using the Unreal 2 engine. Very well, i might add. People light up in flames, blood spews, and guns gleam as you go on your shooting spree.

The sounds are fantastic, with many citizens getting you pissed off and angry. Gary Coleman makes a very special apperance as his voise just adds to the humor of the game, and some other things ;)

This game is NOT for those that are squimish, in a relationship, has a criminal record, wakes up in the middle of the night with a bloody knife in their hands screaming, or has an odd obsession with peeing on people. f you are not one of the above, i suggest this game for a quick laugh, but get it when its in the bargain bin.

Neverwinter Nights 8.5/10

First of all this game is very good in story depth, the whole campaign lasts about 60 or so hours. the story is very good, but in single player, you are left feeling...rather lonely.

now, multiplayer is the best part, here it is fairly easy to join a game. the thing thats most exciting about multiplayer is that the game includes a program called the toolset, so users can create their own modules and share them with people online without the users having to download the module. the only problem i had with the toolset is that it require alot of scripting and there is no manual at all for it. so you have to have some experiance with scripting. over all, very good game.

(brought to you by crap reviews)

-----------------------------------Max Payne--------------------------------

The first thing that caught my eye was the box art. A combination of "gritty" and "near perfect" which is exactly what this game is. The story is one of the best ever created in PC history. You are Max Payne, a Cop turned DEA agent after your family is visously murdered be a couple of junkies.

The gameplay is what really revolutionizes this game as one of the best. It is one of the first games to include the Bullet Time system, a slow-motion Matrix like effect that allows Max to fire at normal speed, while his opponets are as slow as mollasses :D The AI is sub-par compared to most Game of the Year shooters. enemys will sometimes use excellent tactics, like duck and fire, or sometimes they'll just stand there as you fill them with hot lead from your twin berrettas.

The weapons are the usual sort in a shooting game. You have the Beretta, shotgun, M16 etc.

The sound effects for all the weapons are moderatly done, nothing really to complain about there. But the sound in general is another aspect of this game that is amazing. Max Payne's voice is as gritty as one that had his family murdered could get. Each enemie's voise is superbly done.

All in all, this game revolutionalized the late 90's and still is a must buy today.

Why make up a thread when you already have a forum set up for you? For those of you who don't know what I mean Adventure Gamers Forum -- isn't that what its used for?

Its certainly better than having to look up your review among the soon to be 100's if not 1000's of replies.

Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain 9/10

Roam the world as a vampire, Kain. Killed by bandits and risen by the Necromancer Mortanious, Kain's bloodlust and thirst for vengence is not so easily quenched. A great RPG...simply put. It has it all. Great FMV's(for its day in 1997), lotsa action, great puzzles, and alotta blood. A multiple endings. Everybody loves them.

Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 10/10

Eidos takes over where Silicon Knights left off, and Kain is now God. He condemns his first born lieutenant to annihilation in the abyss. This time around, you control Raziel, the destroyed vampire turned soul sucker. Same puzzle solving greatness as in Blood Omen, and action is still good. Best of all, no loading whatsoever(besides loading up your game).

Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 2 10/10

Picking up where Soul Reaver left off, Raziel chases Kain through time, still wanting revenge for the 'hypocracies that damned him'. This time around, more people are playing the deck than just Raziel and Kain, and more questions are risen and left unanswered. Overall a great game. Same principles as in Soul Reaver, but the story is so much more indepth.

Blood Omen 2: Legacy of Kain 5/10

A millenia before Kain raises Raziel and his breatheren, he must face a new enemy, the Sarafan, a fanictle(SP?) group of warrior priests, lead by a mysterious lord. The action is a bit lacking, and this bad ass vampire has to solve puzzles. And the lip synching at the end was horrid at best. Defienently a good thing they dropped most of this team for Legacy of Kain: Defiance, due out this November.

lol resident evil zero had that effect on you?....if that's so you must play silent hill...any of them!...they will kick your ass :p

Gombie?...is that one of those leech things?...I HATE those...they take so much ammo and that horrible sound that plays every time one is around.

I haven't beat silent hill 3 yet so I can't fully say what I think.

One room I came across was cool though...it had a large mirror on the wall and I was looking into it and in the image the walls started to bleed and blood started to cover my character...then the walls and floor inside the room itself started doing this and it just kept getting worse to the point where the whole room looked like it was alive...I got so caught up in the effect I didn't notice it was killing me and I died lol

Sweet, I just picked up my copy of madden 04 yesterday. Did not play the game, other than just put it into the console and changed the settings/gameplay to the way I like it.

Did not have any time to do anything else to it. Maybe tonight or definitly on Fri night. I will play it some then.
