I can't believe I didn't clock that they were the original pirate leaders! Someone take me to Knuttin Atoll so I can claim a dunce cap It makes sense to see them again, given that there's a new trio taking over, it'd be weird to be left wondering where the OG went. The facial expression on Guybrush as he burps is fantastic, clearly they put a lot of effort into putting in plenty of custom animations. Others have cited the swordfighting book...I wonder if we have to collect a bunch of them for some reason, perhaps to learn whatever the new swordfighting mechanic is? I also like the idea of it being an in-game hintbook and various locations throughout the game have one for when you get stuck.

Judging by the last three...in about 4 hours.

Yeah I think that pretty much aligns with where I'm at, you don't want to stop having fun with the game if you're that stuck, I think at that point looking up hints is fair game. I just have to resist the temptation to look things up the second I get stuck. One good thing about playing immediately upon release is that there's less out there because everyone's playing it at the same time.

I'm curious...how old school is everyone planning to go with using the hintsystem, looking up hints online, etc? Personally, I want to try and figure out as much of the game myself as possible, because I always vowed with each new MI to do that as I very quickly used walkthroughs for the first 4 games (heresy, I know). I'm not against using whatever the hint system is so long as it isn't blatantly giving the solution away (I don't think I have to worry about that though, Ron's better than that) or posting in the inevitable hints forum...there's gonna be a hints forum right? And a spoiler talk one seperate from that? I'd hate to accidentally find out the Secret while I'm looking for hints.

You raise an excellent point. My one concern about review copies going around is the increase of potential spoilers leaking out, like someone less well-versed in the series accidentally giving away what the Secret is because they undervalue its importance, or just someone carelessly laying out the plot beats or the solution to a puzzle they found difficult. Clearly I haven't read a lot of adventure game reviews

I'm still wondering what Ron's stance is on the press getting advanced copies, seeing as how it was a dot point in his 2013 blog that they wouldn't but he's changed his mind about a lot of things and also there's publisher requirements and all that. Will we be seeing reviews pop up before release? I mean, the Mojo review is ultimately the only one I really care about (as well as what I personally think when I play it), but still, I'm curious.

I've been wondering this ever since it was announced. Let's hope so!

I watched the German version just to see how well my high school German education stuck with me and....it definitely didn't I think I got "Hallo mein name ist Guybrush Threepwood" and Largo saying Tschuss...that was about it. One day I'd like to relearn it, I had a lot of fun with it until I had to drop the subject to make room for electives

This game keeps looking better and better! That zoom into the coutroom was great, and the music transition was seemless! Great stuff. They've done a pretty good job of avoiding plot and puzzle spoiler so far, but I hope we don't get too many of these teases before release cause I don't want to see all the locations before I get to play it.

I think the best idea would be to show the person you're introducing the series to a screenshot of both original and SE and let them decide. FWIW I got my girlfriend to play the Ultimate Talkies but a lot of that had to do with her laptop not being up to playing the SEs at a reliable speed.

I'm fine with counting the website chat with Stan as a demo, as it technically features gameplay in the form of dialog options

If they keep up the trend of 10 second clips, it'll be just enough time to show Guybrush looking at one item in his inventory 😜

Not a new generation, but I did get my girlfriend to play them, and she occasionally will say "let's play Monkey Island" out of the blue so I'll count that as a success. I think she wants to get Return for her Switch when it comes out. I got the shock of my life when she was able to immediately solve the underwater puzzle without a moment's hesitation (note she'd never heard of the games before, so she had no prior knowledge of how to solve puzzles, she just did it).

One thing that does intrigue me is...if the game starts in the carnival, why does the Part 1 title card evoke Melee Island? Will we get to solve any puzzles in the carnival as a prologue or will it be a quick cutscene before we're back to the pirate world? I mean, they could've edited the title card to say Part 1 when it's actually Part 2, but that's a stretch.

That's definitely an interesting idea, though I've never truly been on board with the whole world of Monkey Island being imaginary in any context. Also, if we take what Ron said about how "we're not saying anything in those games didn't happen" at face value, then I feel like this theory invalidates that...but maybe it could still work? Like Guybrush has been in control for 3 games and LeChuck wants to erase it all and go back to when he had his brother right where he wanted him, and that was the carnvial. So it happened...right until it didn't. Idk, I think that'd be a tough reckoning with a lot of people (myself included), but it depends entirely on how it's done.
