FYI - I don't think you need to put things in spoiler tags in a thread specifically about EMI

Grim Fandango Remastered physical release by LRG
ThunderPeel2001 replied to Sopabuena's topic in General Discussion
I was really disappointed in the iam8bit collector's edition... Cost me £40 ($46) with shipping. I guess it's a lot less than LRG's version though. -
I'd argue that you can go further into spoof territory and still have the audience care: Blazing Saddles and much of Mel Brooks's output falls into this category if you ask me.

Veni, Vidi, and all I got was this stupid stylus
ThunderPeel2001 replied to Gins's topic in General Discussion
To be clear, the stylus said: "I have come from the City. I bring you a welcome gift with a sharp point that you may remember me. I ask, if fortune allowed, that I might be able to give as generously, as the way is long and as my purse is empty." It's the journalist who quipped that this was the ancient equivalent of "I went to Rome, and all I brought you was this pen." Still, it's so interesting to read how people haven't changed . Tourists will be tourists... and the graffiti on Ramses VI's tomb feel so internet-comment-section it's unbelievable: “I visited, and I did not like anything except the sarcophagus!" "I cannot read the hieroglyphs!” “Why do you care that you cannot read the hieroglyphs? I do not understand your concern.” People haven't changed at all! -
That's one of the original key designs I think... I really liked them.

How i understood LeChuck's Revenge when i played it first time
ThunderPeel2001 replied to karmo's topic in General Discussion
That's dedication...! Too bad you didn't have the German translation... or did you want to learn English from playing? -
Personally I think a more direct continuation could have been like: Big Whoop smashing open let whatever crazy magic inside it seep out It's the presence of Big Whoop that interferes with LeChuck's spell to transport Guybrush into another dimension The longer Guybrush and LeChuck stay near the ruins of the chest, the more the Big Whoop magic permeates and the weirder things get (brother, parents, fairground, etc.) Elaine appears in the Big Whoop dimension and helps him remember that he's not a kid The two of them try to escape back to reality but Guybrush is tricked by LeChuck Instead of transporting himself and Elaine out of Big Whoop... he transports LeChuck and himself to where LeChuck wanted to send Guybrush originally... Hell! In Hell LeChuck is lauded for his behaviour on Earth and immediately given a position of power... Unfortunately for Guybrush, all LeChuck wants to do is torture Guybrush for eternity Fortunately for Guybrush there's some sort of technicality with his life and he's not immediately condemned Stan is also there in Hell... having died after Guybrush nailed him in his coffin Stan doesn't care, though -- he's unflappable, he's always looking for another scam to run in order to get some power in Hell Guybrush needs to escape Hell, but when he tries to leave he discovers he can't because he doesn't have a spiritual essence (after LeChuck destroyed it in MI2) The lack of spiritual essence is why they don't know what to do with him in Hell... a bit of good luck Much of the game is spent with Guybrush trying to get his spiritual essence back At some point he meets his own spiritual essence in Hell... But he has to be careful... once he has his essence back he back be tortured for eternity, but without it he can't escape Guybrush finds himself incredibly annoying and unpredictable to deal with (like other characters found Guybrush on earth) Eventually Guybrush does escape and finds himself back on Dinky... Elaine is waiting outside... they reunite. The power of Big Whoop is mostly gone... but there's still odd moments here and there Back in Hell LeChuck is blamed for Guybrush's escape Stan has spent the game scamming everyone in Hell and is locked up next to LeChuck... forcing LeChuck to spend eternity listening to him The end

There's quite a few things that could be improved in Grim Remastered (note: whatever issues Remastered has, it's still easily the best version of the game -- the controls and the music are worth it for them alone). Here's a list of improvements I made on my last playthrough of the Remastered (note: a lot of these are in the original)... Year 1 Pigeon shadows next to balloon clown Manny doesn’t smoke after Glottis talks about the “noxious fumes” IT guy’s mouth doesn’t animate (in hallway) IT guy’s lips anti-aliasing is off Bread texture is too low res No suction sound when Manny puts the balloon in the pneumatic tube Eva gets stuck in a pose if you talk to her twice at the LSA Spider show after it runs away from Glottis’s heart Year 2 Manny’s ever glowing cigarette Climbing into Totos Santo’s place, Manny’s animation jumps Pixellated Gold Flakes Gold Flakes bottle rotates when Manny drinks it Gold Flakes is still "Golo Flakes" on the PS4 (most irritating thing ever) Seabee: Terry’s top left arm doesn’t animate Sea animation isn’t smooth looping Hard edged anti-aliasing on the telescope Membrillo - background plants in foreground (dots) Mask clipping on lift (upper level) Mysterious non-objects outside Maximino’s (just across from the folding bridge) Membrillo’s fork when Manny hand’s him the metal detector Nick’s cigarillo case doesn’t quite look right when he dropped the key. They fake front is still visible when he switches it to normal mode Nick just disappears when he goes off to talk to Max Kitty Cat announcer stops running Toto Santos talking on phone drowned out by Naranja’s snoring Naranja’s dogtags don’t match Manny’s description (“Seaman Anselmo Naranja Ensign, Third Class”) Manny’s hand shoots out his back while he’s talking to Charlie about his suitcase Doug’s shirt sleeves are transparent The key uses Nick’s cigarillo box for a texture… including his initials Year 3 Manny smokes underwater… At least on conveyor belt screen (idle animation) Manny can stand on the conveyor belt without being moved by it? Water animation looping issue (as with other screens) Crane sound drops out if you move and stop twice Hair curlers animation loop juddering Ocean horizon is not flat Level animation bad Coral doesn’t glow (the only thing in the game which is described as glowing) Pugsy’s hammer reappears in his hand when he laughs after throwing it at Manny Too loud crying of the Angelitos Meche’s skirt changes as she smokes Chain jammed with curlers are WAY TOO LOUD Animated mask on the chain is off on the conveyor belt Dropping the chain into the open hole doesn’t do anything (can’t see chain — presumably you should) Stockings texture is terrible Bust-all texture is terrible Meche goes through the motions every time Manny enter’s Dom’s office — bug? Wrong flower logo on gun End of video — when Meche gets gun — jumps terribly to back into game No noise when Manny turns safe wheel (fixes when zoomed in once lock is exposed) Manny’s hand goes berserk when he’s turning the wheel with one hand (zoomed in) Year 4 Intro video cuts out as Glottis falls off building (Esta bien becomes Es—) Manny’s arm texture is very blocky in the inventory Shadows are incorrectly visible on the gondola housing room Rubacava: Manny says the bridge “used to” fold out before he’s tried the lever, but doesn’t after he has. Bug? Ship in a bottle texture is crappy Eva’s head is facing the wrong way Bowsley can has glitch on it Sewers: Floor is in foreground Backstage: Manny’s head goes behind background when climbing up ladder Dialogue clipped: “Hey, get lost pal. No auto—“ Grinder disappears when it’s put back in the bigger grinder Bone chipper creates huge shadow on the floor when it is run No shadow on wall when Manny climbs ladder in alligator room The bingo board goes blank on the second question (Casino) Manny’s head goes through his caul when he jumps down off the ledge on the roof No shadow from the headlights in The Meadow

Return to Monkey Island 🚨GAME-WIDE🚨 Spoiler Chat
ThunderPeel2001 replied to Jake's topic in General Discussion
Thinking about it, there’s nothing from stopping a sequel establishing that park bench Guybrush is part of the curse of Big Whoop. Or throwing some ambiguity back into the mix. It would be disrespectful and insincere, but it could happen. Just thinking out loud- 706 replies

Yep, I get you. I'm feeling something similar. I'm not eager for a sequel, per se, but I'd like to just go back to what we had before: A hyper-realised pirate world with voodoo, crazy islands and zombie pirates in it. Basically I'd rather be in the world of On Stranger Tides than sat on a park bench feeling old. (I can do that all by myself already.)
-
I appreciate the apology, but I just need to clarify: I'm not "speaking for fans", nor was I. You just misinterpreted what I wrote. Yes, I'm speaking for myself. That's precisely the point I was making. I'm glad you got it Just to clarify one final time. What I was saying is: It feels to me that Ahern and Jordan sat down and said: "What elements do fans of MI love? Let's make sure we get all of those into a game." For me, they succeeded (mostly). And for others (like Remi and many others) they didn't. Sorry to everyone for wording what I meant badly... how about we all try to assume the best from each-other from now on?
-
I decided two wrongs don't make a right and deleted it. You're deliberately ignoring what I said. What BaronGrackle explained. Why? I've already explained I was speaking for myself. At this point you're just being wilfully argumentative.
-
Thank you. You're right, if there's a point of pedantic semantic contention it's the second bit (which is clearly my opinion). The rest is self-explanatory and shouldn't need explaining. And not sure why sharing an opinion should cause so much ire (I feel like I'm getting it from Mojo staffers at the moment -- any particular reason why?) 🤷♂️ Especially when I already put it in the context of it being just how I feel: Edit: Is it because I put Tales last? (I actually ummed and ahhed about that -- I honestly don't remember Escape or Tales well enough to make a fair comparison and nearly put them equal.)
