I love these personal stories about how you experienced the release of part 2! My first Monkey Island experience came from the demo of part 3, which I absolutely loved and played to death! After that I played a Twilight version of the whole game (Twilight was a dutch piracy organisation which stripped games to their bare essentials and crammed them onto two CD’s per release). It didn’t have cutscenes, music or voice acting (although I eventually patched in the music, cutscenes and voices from a german version, so I could play that with English subtitles), but even in those early stripped down playthroughs I loved the game so much! I’d even imagine what the voices would sound like, and what accents they would have! I fell in love with it all over again when I finally got the whole game in English, but the whole way to get there will always be a special memory… Only after that did I play Monkey Island 1 and eventually 2, and I loved those games too! I just never got to experience them when they first came out, so I can’t imagine the public reaction. Thanks for sharing your stories! ❤️

I agree 100% with Rum Rogers here! Monkey Island is great because it’s a niche gaming series with a handful of dedicated fans. I hate all the milking that’s been going on of every franchise imaginable, and the series/sequels/etc are never really as good as the initial idea. Keep Monkey Island Monkey Island. If Ron wants to do another after this sure, but stick to it’s roots I say.

I agree. I recently replayed Monkey Island 1 and 2 and the change between Guybrush is pretty big. In part 1 he's the underdog, the butt of the joke. He's a wimpy loser you're rooting for because he connects to you as the player in a certain way. In part 2 he's much more of a jerk, he's overconfident, brags about himself and actively bulleys people. I still love both games, but after my most recent playthrough, my favourite game switched from part 2 to part 1. I just like the innocence, exploration and adventure more. The stuff about Elaine is all true too. While I don't really see her as a damsel in distress, she became more of a victim of circumstance. (Okay, except for the Carnival of the Damned, that's a classic damsel there). She's definitely tougher and more inventive in part 1 and 2.

Yes! Make it happen! and while you’re at it, please re-remake part 1 and 2 with the same love please. And maybe get Skunkape to remaster Tales! And sure, remake part 4 while you’re at it! Please make everything possible that you can while this wave lasts!

I get what people say about CMI, and I understand the sentiment. But that game gets a pass from me because of everything it puts to the table. The art style, animation, cinematography, atmosphere, humour, voice acting (which was a first), music and everything was so top notch, not to mention it had to start from the point where Ron left it, (which must've been really hard). CMI has the disadvantage of not being made by the original creator, but makes up for it in all other fields. EMI... not so much.

I agree wholeheartedly too! It's a fun adventure game, but especially the second half is brutal to Monkey Island lore... On another note, I just saw his Wikipedia, and it states Earl Boen has retired from voice acting in 2017. I'm so hoping he'll make an exception for LeChuck! He's fantastic in the role, and nobody but him ever sounded 'right' to me! It would be especially cringy to have someone else voice the part if Return is indeed a 'midquel' between Revenge and Curse.

Yeah, but I mean the whole state of Monkey Island in Escape is a plot hole, right? Dinky Island leads to Monkey Island, and Big Whoop was build on Monkey Island. You can even see the Giant Monkeyhead having a death coaster going in it's mouth in Curse. (You can even see it in the above image.) Or did LeChuck break the amusement park down before that stupid church was built?

Couldn't disagree more! I loved Thimbleweed Park and absolutely adored the ending! I don't know if it's what I want from this game though... but we'll see.

I'm not too worried about this. I'm sure he'll find a creative way to make this work. He wouldn't choose this way of narration if he didn't have an idea behind it. I'm not too worried about this either. While I would prefer hand-drawn frame by frame animation, I understand that that would go way over budget. I'm not put off by the art style of the teaser, because even though it has that flash animation feel (which I generally don't like), its clear that there's a creative art style behind it. The first Special Edition just looked like it was done by LucasArts interns without any good supervision.

Man, this is so awesome! How do I back this? How do I get a physical copy? Is Steve Purcell doing the box art? Is Earl Boen back as LeChuck? How do Curse, Tales and sure, Escape too, fit into this? Dominic back as Guybrush, love it, he must be in heaven getting to work with the original creator on this! Danny Delk as Murray, amazing! He was one of the best things about Curse! AAAAAHHH!! Cannot stop hyping!!!
