  1. In order to enchant, you have to destroy an item with that enchantment at an enchanting bench.

Trolls got easier for me around level 20, but then again I didn't use magic or enchantments so you may have better luck. (EDIT: I lied. I did use shouts, which I don't consider magic. I also wore enchanted rings and amulets for buffs)

Someone pushed a small patch via Steam the other night and I guess it reversed some of mods I had applied (specifically the 4gb memory addressing thing). Unfortunately, it appears that the random crashing is back :(

  2. I still hate ice trolls :(

I'm going 110% roleplay this time. Spent a day chopping firewood so that I could afford enough iron to craft my own armor. Only looting gold, jewels/jewelry, potions that I would actually use, and other crafting stuff (hides and ore/ingots). Since I don't have a hardcore mode, I'm having to keep track of eating and sleeping on my own, but maybe there will be a mod for that at some point.

  3. I noticed the other day that mine was on something called Adaptive. Which seemed inappropriate to me, as that ice troll guarding the path to HH was killing me just as fast on my tenth try as he was on my first.

  4. My character isn't much of a big spender, however I do seem to have a thing about buying rings and amulets. When I came across a necklace that offered 100% poison immunity, I thought that it probably wouldn't be that helpful, but picked it up nonetheless.

If you also come across such an item and have a similar debate about usefulness, I recommend throwing caution to the wind and buying it. You may have need of something with this specific attribute whilst completing the main quest.

  5. Smithing is the new alchemy.

  6. I hit back-to-back dragons the other night while doing a Blades mission. Fast traveled (via hired carriage) to the closest town and then began hoofing it. Killed a dragon. Saved. Walked about 50 ft and then got attacked by another one. :(

  7. Started over again. Alchemy was not satisfying at all and while being archer was fun, the experience was not enough to sustain me.

  8. I've always hated vampires :(

*sigh* was on my way to kill a dragon when my merry band got attacked by a different dragon. Used Storm Call and began showering it with arrow when the game crashed :(

Right now I have 4 dragon souls burning a hole in my inventory. Need to find more dragon walls.

  9. TBH, I haven't looked at the racial info for any class aside from Nord until now. Bosmer would be perfect for the character I'm playing right now (ranger-ish female), but I just can't bring myself to play another race.

Morrowind = Dunmer. Oblivion = Imperial or Altmer. Skyrim = Nord.

  10. Hehe, not all of them are bad. The icon for the Giant's Toe is a severed toe with a thick, yellowing nail that looks as though it's been stubbed on a few rocks. Does my PC really want to put this in her mouth so she can make potions with future toes?

Also, first two mods once toolset is released:

    1) mod that makes crafted items more valuable than their component parts (i.e. Gold ingot = 50 gold; two gold rings made from gold ingot = 50 gold).

    2) adjust rate at which creating potions advances skill. This simply has to be bugged. :(

  11. That was the last hour or so of gameplay for me last night/this morning. After the third unsuccessful attempt to traverse a stretch of road without getting mauled by a mob of spiders, I took a different route and ended up killing a giant (side note: I don't like that you have to eat alchemical ingredients to find out what they do. At least not when the alchemical ingredients have names like "Giant's toe" or "Human heart", etc). Then I progressed the main quest a little more and killed a dragon. Then I went to bed.

P.S. Avoid ice wraiths if you're an archer :(

  12. Decent Nords aren't hard at all. The defaults are mostly great. Woad helps and lots of hair options too.

It's always nice to hear a kind word from a stranger :)

  13. That doesn't surprise me, re: names.

Speaking of starting over. My quest log in Skyrim became unmanageable. I started over with a character (female nord) specializing in sneaking around and putting arrows into things from a nice, safe distance. Focusing almost entirely on just doing the main quest this time. I'll revisit my brawny, smash-things-with-a-mace-or-bash-it-with-mah-sheild Nord again later.

  14. I'm glad to hear that you were able to get it running.

I found a few spot in Skyrim where the framerate got absolutely destroyed, so I throttled the settings back to "High". Apparently, not running the game on Ultra introduces issues with the shadows and now there's lot of flickering. :(

EDIT: DLing updated drivers. Not sure if it will help, but I should've tried it first anyway.

EDIT AGAIN: Yep. New drivers resolved the tearing and restoring the settings took care of the flickering. Now I just have to hope that framerate doesn't die in forests :(

  15. Improved crime system = kids can now take out hits. :xp:

Just killed dragon number 5. Apparently, there are finishing moves for them too.

  16. This may go down as one of the funniest bugs I've ever encountered.

Upon leaving town, I was attacked by three hired thugs. It was a tough fight and it took me about 4 tries to get through it. As I'm looting one of the bodies, I find a contract. Opening the contract, I see that it was taken out by a name that I recognized but couldn't quite place. I'm accused of having stolen something, though I've yet to lift a single owned item. Curiosity piqued, I now figure I have to visit this person.

Luckily, there's enough info on the wiki that I can find out from which town my "benefactor" hails. Fast travelling back to Riverwood, I discover that my would-be assassins were hired by a little girl that's probably about 6 or 7 years old.

At this point I've decided that the game is no longer playable. I have neither the option to send her to time out nor have a discussion with her parents about "proper guidelines" for allowance. :(

  17. Yeah, I'm encountering some crashes along with a quasi-annoying flicker in the distant landscape.

  18. No problems with install whatsoever. Stoffe should heed the signs and not install the game (I just suffered a crash after defeating a rather larger arachnid).

Hurry up and hate TOR so you can play Skyrim wif us. It's purdy.

  19. "Your settings have been set for Ultra High Quality"

  20. I found another "roach motel" bug in FO:NV. You can enter Vault 21, but the game will crash if you try to exit. Unlike the similar issue with the BoS bunker, this one doesn't appear to be tied to a quest or item.

EDIT: Not sure if it's a function of not wearing the DLC Stealth Armor, sleeping with Sarah, or simply progressing the game, but I was able to leave.

EDIT2: Finished "last" playthrough with 3 hours to spare. Going to brave the 12:01 pickup. Wish me luck.

EDIT3: Forget that. Line went around the building. My copy will still be there at 10am tomorrow.

  21. I'm sure there'll be a next time :) Glad to hear your friend got his new vehicle ok.

  22. I'm trying to wrap up as many of the achievements as I can before I get distracted with Skyrim. I have 3 left for LR, 1 for OWB, and 1 for GRA that's going to have to wait for another Caesar's Legion run.

So far a roleplay goes, I think this character is probably the best I've done. Former NCR citizen that bumped East to the Mojave as a caravan guard, then left that to become a courier because the money wasn't worth the risks. I'm able to make most of the skill checks, etc and at no point have I felt like I had to break character do it.

  23. It looks like my Oblivion run may end up being post-Skyrim.

I managed to crank out HH in about 8 hours and DM took around 12. Not sure how much time OWB is going to take, but I played for about 7 hours last night and I still haven't covered more than about 1/3 of the map. Supposing that I finish OWB tonight, I still have LR to go and I've yet to set foot on The Strip back in the Mojave, so who knows how long it will take to finish the main quest :(

  24. Have you messed around with the Must Train mod for Oblivion? I'm tempted to give it a run.
