RicardoLuigi...
and here we have...another pop culture thread!! hooray. okay, if you've seen the music video for the song "milkshake" by kelis, you'll know why i'm posting the thread. so here's the most obvious question i could post at this point, and that is- what do you think of the music video and the song? Shivermetimbers
I have an idea Das... why don't you make a thread called "pop culture" and then whenever you get one of these whims you can post it in there? just a suggestion. I haven't heard it or seen the song. I stopped watching mtv a year ago and have never looked back or even wanted to. I haven't seen or heard it, and here is what I think of it... Two big, fat thumbs down.
Alia
I dare you to start a thread called "milkshake" in Aresen. Or not. Anyway, I haven't seen the video or even heard the song. But I DID hear this awesome violin piece on the radio. I sure wish I could play the violin.
RicardoLuigi...
it seems like nobody is into anything dealing with pop culture other than me....and i don't know why. anyway...i think the song is catchy...is there anybody that has seen the video or heard the song? Ernil
I haven't touched the radio or MTV in years. But I heard a wonderful little ditty someone was humming while I walked down the hall next to them.

Skinkie
MTV died when they decided to stop supporting rock, and to instead support the likes of Britney Spears, along with a variety of shows which are not music videos and therefore are against the whole point of the channel. Alien426
Somebody remember Headbanger's Ball? I don't think that what Das is talking about is pop culture. Pop culture needs a little more... bang... than a video clip.

RicardoLuigi...
well, i don't really like too much rap or hiphop, but if it's a good song, then i'll like it. and i understand why you can think it's annoying, i thought it was stupid too when i first heard it on the radio and then saw the video, but i find most songs are like that. like first you hate it and then you end up liking it. like when i heard "baby boy" by beyonce for the first time on the radio (asshole b96 playing it 3 months before it was supposed to come out), i thought it was really weird, but then after hearing it again, i liked it. Natty
The most irritatingly annoying song of the summer. But it's oh so addictive.

Mr.Burger
i think what we're trying to say in a few words is we're musically smarter than you, das. yeah i know what's going on in the pop culture world, but that stuff really does focus too much on image. Liz Phair? Look at her album cover. John Mayer? He's the cute, sweet, guitar-wizard teenager. Radiohead, Phish, Grateful Dead, Weezer... it's about the music. Screw the videos. Make them if you really want to contribute something, not if you want to take off your clothes or act like a cutie-pie so that lonely middle aged men can masturbate to you or little teenage girls can stick their fingers down their throats for you. RicardoLuigi...
i don't honestly like any kinds of music that you have to listen to the lyrics and say "wow this song really means something", i actually like shallow, phony music that has no kind of soul at all or any real meaning it's just something you listen to so you can soak up some time. and i honestly don't give a rat's ass if everyone is "musically smarter" than me, i don't really think music has anything to do with being better than other kinds of music. it's all your opinion. if somebody preferred music that is slower and more meaningful than the music that i would like, it doesn't mean they're listening to better music, that's just what they like. you can't really be smarter when it comes to what kinds of music to listen to than somebody else. anyway...my point is that i don't care whether or not anybody likes the stuff that i post about or what music i'm posting about, i'll listen to it anyway because i don't want to be like everybody else here and listen to music that people actually wrote and people that want to convey some kind of message to people. so...that concludes my post. Mr.Burger
opinion: some music is better than other music. fact: some music is better than other music. HOW CAN THIS BE FACT AND OPINION?? WHY DO I LIE??? opinion: i like this song more than that one because of various reasons that could be: - i listened to that other song when i got dumped - i listened to that other song way too many times - i like bouncier tunes/slower tunes/darker tunes/etc. - i like the persona of this group/artist fact: this song is more musically intelligent than that one because of various that could be: - this song has unique and complex instrumental parts - this song has unique and complex vocal parts - this song is unique and complex - this song was written and performed by the "artist"/"group" so let's take a glance at what you've stated you enjoy: - music that isn't deep (aka unique or complex) - music that is not written by the artist/group claiming it - sports, GIRLS DAMMIT NOT BOYS, and sports i like the comment about the no soul time waster thing regarding music. you were being sarcastic right? if you were then you are also bad at sarcasm because you went onto explain in great detail what you were being sarcastic about. if you weren't then congratulations, no one will ever love you. for us it's a win-win situation. RicardoLuigi...
i like the comment about the no soul time waster thing regarding music. you were being sarcastic right? if you were then you are also bad at sarcasm because you went onto explain in great detail what you were being sarcastic about. if you weren't then congratulations, no one will ever love you. for us it's a win-win situation. well...i wasn't being sarcastic. i really don't want to listen to something that is totally and completely meaningful and that "touches your soul". and even if i was listening to something that did have a meaning, first of all it wouldn't be a song that is completely sacred, i would listen to something that at least has good background music and i like the singer. nothing like the italian monks singing gospel music or anything like that. and i don't really see how even if i was being sarcastic i would have ended up going into depth about what i was being sarcastic about. so i don't understand how you could even come to the conclusion that i was possibly being sarcastic at all, because if i had gone so much into depth then it wouldn't really even be sarcasm. i'm not that stupid. on top of that, i agree that some songs have more complex and unique vocals than other songs, however it really only makes a difference when you're talking about actual music and nursery rhymes. when some songs have more unique and complex vocals, maybe somebody doesn't want to listen to a song that is very complex. perhaps they like simpler songs. and what's the rubric for saying that a song is more complex than another song? couldn't that really be an opinion too? you can't really take any kind of measurement system to say that one song is more complex and unique than another song. anyway...why do you want to bother to come in here and try and argue with me that you listen to more "musically intelligent songs" than i do? if you really think that the music i like and these threads that i make are inferior to yours, then why bother to even post anything in this thread? and i know that you never said that i was inferior to you, but you sure are acting like it with your intelligent music.
