Samuel Dravis
Has anyone ever played The Longest Journey? I am going to be most likely getting it , and I want to see what the swampies opinions are (because they are crucial to continued existance). It got some incredible scores from many PC gaming mags...all above 90%. The demo is pretty good too. The Longest Journey Official Site
BongoBob
Sry, but I have never heard of it. Sounds like a good game though.
ExcelsioN
Isn't it really old now?
CapNColostomy
Yes, it's old. And it's decent if you like point and click type games like that. But I think they should've called it The Longest Installation Time. It's been a few years back, and I was using a not so speedy Gaytway, but it seemed to take forever to install the damned thing. I never beat it, got stuck somewhere...
Samuel Dravis
It was released in 2000, so I suppose it's fairly old, but if the gameplay/story is good, who cares? People still play Myst. Look at the release date on that one.

Even though they're older than The Longest Journey. I've got them both and they're brilliant. But then you might want to wait until Sam and Max 2 or maybe get Broken Sword: The Sleeping Dragon which is also very good.
Samuel Dravis
Yeah, I've played EMI and CMI. They both have really good voice acting and hilarious characters. Never been able to play GF though. Doesn't Lucasarts' store have a adventure pack or something? Full throttle was great too. Besides, with this one, I would like to get one a little more serious than those Lucasarts ones.
Neverhoodian
For a fantastic (and hilarious) point-and-click Myst-esque adventure with a wacky, off-the-wall sense of humor thrown in, I would highly recommend The Neverhood Chronicles. It was made by the same guy who made the Earthworm Jim games and The Tick. The neat thing about the game is it was made in claymation. Take The Nightmare Before Christmas' visual style, add in zany Looney Tunes humor and put those elements into Myst and you'll have a fairly good idea on what to expect from the game. Unfortunately, the game is hard to find as it was released back in 1996. Ebay is probably your best bet. However, it sounds like you're looking for more serious games. The only other games like that that I can think of besides Myst are its sequels, Riven and Myst III: Exile.

KBell
Longest Journey is a very good adventure game, yet very mature.
Samuel Dravis
Originally posted by KBell Longest Journey is a very good adventure game, yet very mature. Yeah, I heard it was. That's why I was looking into getting it. Neverhoodian, I'll check out that Neverhood Chronicles game. It that where you got your name? I was going to get Full Throttle 2, but then ******* LucasArts cancelled it. Also, I was wondering if anyone played the game AmerZone. I've seen it around a lot, and wonder if it is any good. Samuel Dravis
I finally bought it on Ebay; I'll tell you guys what I think of it when I get it in about a week. I found out that forcing FSAA and anisiotropic filtering made the demo look a lot better. If you have the game, you should try it.

Samuel Dravis
I got it yesterday. .... It's incredible. I haven't played an adventure game in a while, but this one kicks every one off the shelf. It has great voice acting, storyline, visuals (very very good), easy interface, lots of great cutscenes, visuals (hey, what can I say? They're great), music, and immersion. The only thing about it is that is uses a LOAD of cusswords (that's where the M rating comes from). Other than that, it's perfect. I recommend this game to anyone, even if they don't like adventure games. Even the puzzles aren't that hard, once you get into adventure-game-thinking mode. I haven't encountered a single frustrating part in the entire game. Whoa. I need to get back to it now.
Samuel Dravis
Right now I'm on chapter 10 (of 13), and it's even more interesting than before. I recommend this to all swampies. I also found out that there's hardly any foul language after the first chapter, so that's not really a problem to anyone that has issues with it. Out of 5: :) :) Notice my sig. MTFBWYA While its main method of gameplay is puzzles, almost all of them are relevent to what you are doing, and none are really boring or too difficult. The game suceeds in dragging you into the story and making you care about the characters in it, like it or not. If it helps, think KotOR, point-and-click, with more puzzles and less aliens. But the excellent voice acting remains.
