bneezy
Thank you so much all of you that really means a lot to me, I’m happy to be here darth333, among great people like your self Fred Tetra, T7,Tk102.. and so many more giving back to the community. Just in January I hadn’t even known what would open the erf file I so desperately wanted to get my hands on. And with Fred’s tool I began. With T7 as my teacher I set out to make my first item the light of the force mask, and once it was done and I had my own work in the game. I caught the bug and began moding as many skins as I could . I’m so happy I could add to peoples enjoyment of this great game. So am I svosh. Or at least I was.
svösh
Bneezy I m sorry this is not an attack on you, it more personal to me under the surface. I’m an artist with strong convictions about using others work, I have been asked to paint replicas of famous artists work for a good amount of money, but turned it down because of these convictions. Some people call me crazy but thats the way I am. I really appreciate that you like my work , and hope you will continue to after all of this, I’m not calling you a fraud nowhere have you clamed the model to be yours, but instead of copying more of them, why not try your hand at some of your own. New models unique never see before. You can’t compare a skin to a model a model changes the shape and area while a skin only changes the surface depending on how radical a change it is. Anyways that’s all I have to say just felt you should know And unfortunately I haven’t seen family guy in a long long time but it sounds like it was a good one svösh

This mod forum gets the most traffic of any of the LucasArts forums but there are relatively few modders if you crunch the numbers. I am certaintly not taking anything from anyone on this forum who has actually made a mod because I haven't submitted anything! If you are happy and can make just one other person happy or increase the interest in the game, then you have been 100% successful. I for one am excited you learned how to import other items and look forward (hopefully) to when they might/could be released.
stingerhs
hey bneezy, i know its a bit late to responding, but i just got FarCry, and i have been just a tad pre-occupied (hehe, i love a good fps in the morning ). anyway, i would really, REALLY like to have those models, especially the tenloss rifle (if you have my item pack, you should know why). despite what anybody else says, getting any kind of new model into the game (besides ones that bioware made) is quite an accomplishment. making your own model is an accomplishment in its own right. actually, to be blatently honest, just modding this game is quite an achievement to begin with. people, lets not forget that everything we achieve is done WITHOUT any direct help from either LucasArts or Bioware. we've come a long way in this community, but don't let us forget that one basic fact: we did what we did by ourselves. that is an accomplishment. bneezy
....and that everything we edit or modify is still the property of Bioware and Lucas Arts.
T7nowhere
I feel I need to post a comment about what has been disussed today. The point is that it does not take alot of skill to convert a model from one format to another when all the tools are availible. Anyone could have done,(I was not aware Orson had ripped the E-11 or Boba's helm) This is something I would strongly discourage everyone from doing. Bnezzy In another thread you stated you were only converting models as practice so that you could make your own model. When I read this I was happy, we really need more modelers for KotOR. Dispite everyone being very happy that you converted models from JKA or was JKO(it doesn't matter) I doubt you will be able to post the blasters on pcgm since they are just resources from another game.( Im not completly certain of pcgm's policies) I think It's fine to teach everyone how to do it, I have zero problem with that. I Just would not want negative attention brought to holowan because someone is ripping resources out of another game and posting them as mods(you have not done this yet and I don't think I read you saying that you were) Im sure you could make your own model and then there would be nothing to worry about. KotOR modding is not supported officially, It is tollerated Im sure, thats as far as it has gone. I also do not know what Revensofts position is on modding or have resources ripped from it's games to use in another, But I do of a few developers that have sought legal action to make certain that sort of thing is not done with their games. It can get messy and will just hurt the community in the long run. It is true that all the mods that have been made are mostly modifications of Biowares work, That is often what mods are. Up until cchargin showed up and made a model decompiler then compiler. The only option we had was to use Bioware's models and recolor or make a completly new reskin and then hope it looked cool on the model. But now we have an opportunity to make our own models and THAT is what we should be doing with the tools availible.

bneezy
But, On the other hand if you just make your own model then you won't have to answer to anyone. I remember that thread. I read it again and saw I answered you incorrectly. I thought I read it as "for your own use" but I was wrong. I'm glad you noticed that I never planned to release it all (a very important point.) The only "mod" I've ever given out was this one: The only reason I gave that one to people was because I wasn't done with the tutorial I posted later. I guess these are out of the picture then:

NOBODY is forcing you to potentially violate copyright laws by releasing them to the public. if i understood t7 correctly, it would probably just be a good thing to just leave us the tutorial rather than bring unwanted attention to holowan by releasing potentially illegal mods. don't think that modding is for everyone but yourself, but rather visa versa. mod because YOU want to. bneezy
OMG! YES, oh crap, that was Tomer's Clonetrooper armor you saw. Sorry, Tomer. I reminded myself to mention that, but forgot when I posted. Sorry again. EDIT:The only thing I ever planned to do is show what you could do with cchargin's mdlops and get people excited about modding KotOR again. Things seemed to be going a little south a while back with threads like "Death to the forum???" Aren't we all copyright violators? T7 edit:You know you can edit your posts. stingerhs
if you want to get really technical, yes. quite frankly, with the simplicity of the mods we make, i honest don't think bioware or lucasarts actually cares as long as we don't try to sell it. as for something like a new model or gsccc's Reign of the Sith, i think that is actually protected under copyright laws, as long as the programs you use are legit. bneezy
I saw an interview with the head of Obsidian talking about KotOR II. One of the questions asked was about official modding support. He said no, "since it's based on the Aurora engine, a lot of the same tools that work for Neverwinter Nights work for KotOR II." Why would he even tell people that? --------------------------------------------------------------- So, in order to keep things friendly around here and not draw unwanted attention from Raven, Bioware, and Lucas Arts, there will not be any download or tutorial for these weapons or anything that comes from any copyrighted material. Now everyone email Orsan and yell at him, too. We may also want to remove the "Batman Malak" mod so Warner Bros. doesn't start asking questions. (please do not email Orsan, I was just kidding)
TheProphet
I think takeing out the batman mod is a little over the top, as long as we arnt selling anything or gaining profit off other peoples ideas, we arnt braking any laws or crossing any territories. If there is a mod to worry about it is KOTOR AE because of their promisis of making a new game and selling it. The copyrights state that you may not sell or gain profit over ANYTHING released under the trademark of KOTOR or Lucas Arts or Warner Bros. ect. Modding is completely legal, JA and JK2 have a large amount of mods that are ideas from different things, ex: the skin of Fat Bastard from Spy Who Shagged Me
stingerhs
wait just a darn minite. modding is supposed to be FUN. that batman skin was for just that purpose, to have fun. and no, i honestly don't think a warner bros. rep will come knockin at anybody's door for a simple reskin. didn't ya read my earlier post?? btw, don't take any offense at me, please??? bneezy
To finish off this thread of parade pissing, legal action, and dream crushing, I leave you with this: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So, in order to keep things friendly around here and not draw unwanted attention from Raven, Bioware, and Lucas Arts, there will not be any download or tutorial for these weapons or anything that comes from any copyrighted material. because... Wow I mean Bneezy you have successfully converted a model with tools in milkshape .md3 to > 3ds to > mdl with mdlops >mdl and mdx for kotor …. Big deal. and don't forget that.... Anyone can edit formats of different game models with the right tools and plugins. and finally, to be perfectly honest....... The point is that it does not take alot of skill to convert a model from one format to another when all the tools are availible. Anyone could have done. So there you have it. If you can't figure out how to do this for yourself, you are retarded. And if you have already done so and want to share it with everyone else....DON'T! Trust me on that. bneezy
I was thinking really hard about this last night: 1) Not everyone has Jedi Academy. Some people aren't going to buy the game just to see if they can convert the weapons. Sure they can downoad the demo and use the weapons included with it, but that brings me to my next point... 2) Not everyone has broadband. Even if they wanted to download the demo(or 3D Studio Max or Photoshop CS), it would take an ungodly amount of time. Some people in the slums of America still have dial up. Those people are being rounded up and executed. 3) Anyone could have done it. Yeah, but they didn't. Well, they did, but then dropped off the face of the earth and didn't tell anyone how.
