Yeah, but that video card doesn't kick ass much ass as the X-800 :¬:

:D I never said he needed it, I just said what I thought was cool.

Well, lets see...Radeon X800 is 500 alone, AMD Athlon 64FX is about 200+, so that should help out a bit.

WAAAAAAAAY too much there.

I'm with Tyrion for around $800.

I bought my pc last year, I spent $800, but after all the upgrades, I wound up dumping about another $200 into it anyways.

I'd rather spend $800 and get a really spiffy system this time.

I am pretty sure I can salvage alot off of my current PC.

I just installed a new fan this year, i'm keeping it.

Well I know more about the internal side of pcs than I did about 2 years ago.

I just figured I was getting a great deal for an AMD processor, 512 of ram, and a 80GB hard drive.

Turned out my graphics card was an abomination of Biblical proportions, and my sound card was virtually non existant.

You live, and you learn...

Hewlett Packard Pavillion 523 N

AMD Athlon XP 2200+

1.8 GHz

512 of RAM

80 GB Hard Drive

CD/CDR Drive: Mitsumi CR - 48XCTE

DVD Drive: Pioneer DVD 117

Graphics Card: ATI Radeon 9200 Pro

Sound card: (?)

Plan on keeping my monitor and printer, they are still fairly new, and in excellent shape. Also installed a high powered fan recently, keeping that also.

What I want new:

The fastest Athlon processor, a new motherboard

The best graphics card money can buy

The best sound card money can buy.

A much larger hard drive

Probably a new motherboard.

And I want to dump everything into this case:

Hmmmm..... Upgrade your video card to a 9600 or a 9800. That should be anywhere between 100-200 dollars. :)

512 Ram, upgrade to a gig to be safe. ;)

1.8 GHz and AMD Athlon XP 2200+, not sure about. I have 2.6 GHz, and I don't know what my motherboard is. :p

But, definetly upgrade your video card to a 9600/9800 and 1 GB of ram. ;)

Who would upgrade to those two when you can get a Geforce 6800 GT 256mb card for £220-260! Thats what I'm getting.

Plus, the ATI Radeon X800 is better, or at least, next generation.

As for the space...I currently have 4.00 GB left on my computer, and I'm not using it. The other hard drive has 3.00 GB. The larger hard drive has 20 GB total, and the smaller one has 9.00 GB total. I don't use much space.

Oh, and also, this computer that we made at http://www.ibuypower.com, it had 512 MB of RAM as well.

Well, I need help!! My Dad was asking the difference of the video cards, and why the X800 was better. He also wants to know the significance of all of the numbers on the video cards, like, 6800, 5500, X800. I told him it was the model name, but he doesn't think so.

I hope you guys know the full and total answer to these two questions. You guys are all awesome!!

What I need is the meaning of all the weird numbers and the statistics of why one card is better than another...

Nice try though...

...

That's what I just gave you, silly. :p The heirarchy of the cards of this and last generation.

If you want to actually read up on benchmarks between the cards, I'd suggest you look at Firing Squad and Elite Bastards.

Heh, well, my dad proved me wrong about the ATI Radeon X800 being the best card on the market. He found a research test for the best display quality...and it was the nVidia GeForce 6800!! It was the highest for Doom 3, currently the game with the most advanced graphics, under ultra high, high, and medium.

So, we searched more...and we found a sweet computer thing, I hope he will order it soon!!

These are some notable (spelling?) features:

nVidia GeForce 6800 GT 256 MB

AMD 64 Processor (3200)

160 GB Hard Drive

1024 MB of RAM (1.024 GB of RAM)

56x CD-ROM Drive

16x DVD-RW/CD-RW Drive

Asus Motherboard (Something like that.)

More power...thing.

Two fans.

Pre-formatted Hard Drives, no OS, we have a Windows XP Professional CD from KSU for $5!!

Well, I guess he already ordered it last night, but without the extra power, a cheaper motherboard, a better CD-RW/DVD-RW burner, and temperature cooling displays, etc.

And, it is silver!!

Here is what it looks like:

268Silver_2.jpg

It'll be arriving on September 21st, and my Dad'll keep it in his lab, as he has to install Windows XP Professional, Linux, and all of the drivers for the hardware stuff!! Then, it comes home...and the gaming begins!!

Oh, and I have a question. I bought Halo for PC, and it didn't work, as my graphics card is bad. I took it to some of my friend's houses, and the CD was damaged, the game didn't install as it should have. I know it is legal to have a copy of a game if you had the original. I'm gonna download the copy, but, will it still work online?

Thanx!!

The 6800 is better in OpenGl than Ati, thus it's better in Doom 3. But according to some recent benchmarks, the X800 is better in Half-life2(DirectX9)...but both cards are good, and I'm even thinking about the 6800 Gt.
