The One Year Thread Redux

Recommended Posts

I picked up a couple of rooms in the house, and managed to get all my CDs re-organized, which can often be a pretty involved job, as they rarely get put away back in their original cases.

You disgust me ;)

Actually, it's better than what I do - not only do I put the CD back in the jewel case after I have listened to it, I have to make sure it's perfectly lined up in there. I sit there nudging it a few degrees one way, a few degrees back the other way; it takes me like 5 minutes to put a CD back in its case. I know, I'm a sick, sick man :( But I never had to worry about this with tapes! Same with VHS vs. DVD - quality may be better with DVDs, but I could put those VHS tapes away much faster.

Well, I'm pretty good about putting stuff away... IF I'm listening at home. In that case the CD goes right back in the jewel case, and the case usually goes back on the shelf (by artist, in chronological order of album release, with band projects first, then solo albums from related members, grouped in genres, in order of my preference of listening; with prog and instrumental rock near the top, and jazz and classical nearer to the bottom)

All my problems come when I am stocking the car CD changer. What happens is that I bring the cartridge in the house, load up with 6 discs, put the empty jewel cases back on the shelf in place. The problem occurs after a week or 2 of listening to the same 6 CDs: Inevitably I'm halfway out the door when I think "Hey! I'm sick of this music! I'll grab 6 different discs and change them out!" So then I grab 6 new discs in thier cases, and carry them out to the car, putting the new CDs in the changer, and placing the old discs in the jewel cases. After a couple of weeks of that I do the same thing all over again, sometimes bringing the old jewel cases (with the wrong CDs inside) back in the house. Often, I forget to re-arrange the discs at this point, and they go back on the shelf carrying within them erronious discs.

After a couple of months of this things really get out of hand, and I get frustrated after pulling down an Allman Brothers disc only to find Fleetwood Mac inside, at which point I pull everything down and open each case and get back to ground zero again.

The other problem I have is that my CD shelves are almost out of free space, and any time I add a new disc or 2 I have to try to find room, but keeping with the hopelessly complex system I have constructed for myself. Sometimes I have to rearrange each and every shelf in order to keep all the discs for a single band together and in order if I add a new one.

Monday, Oct. 3, 2005 (Trying to get back on schedule with this...)

Not the most exciting or eventful day at work I've ever had. Spent most of the afternoon packing up broken gear to be shipped out for repairs, and tracking down the different addresses to ship it all back to. Thrilling. (But, unfortunately, necessary.)

The commute home on the subway car I was on was a drag: Super packed, but with no AC or ventilation. A sticky, smelly, sweat-box. Hmmm... Plus, I had to put my earplugs in for the entire duration of the trip, as the PA system was turned up all the way and let out a horrific banshee screech every time it was switched on, and I was located directly under a speaker. Not a pleasant trip, overall.

Stopped on the way home for cat food and groceries.

Finished reading this thread all the way through. I still want all the June posts re-instated! The thread will not be compete without them! There's like a one-month hole right in the middle.

Traded e-mails a couple of times tonight with an old college buddy. Seems like he's doing well, but I really have to stay in touch with people better, and actually get together in person whenever possible. He really doesn't live that far away, but I haven't seen him in person for years now. Funny how time manages to slip away when you're not looking...

Got a dentist's appointment right in the middle of the afternoon tomorrow. I probably won't bother trying to make it in to work before it. I'll just have to make the hours up on Wednesday, Thursday, and maybe Friday.

Pretty tired tonight... I wonder if I'll be able to manage to stay up for the Daily show...

my knees are crumbling. :( started out as just a little pain when bending, squatting, etc. now it's like i'm gonna fall over when i bend to pick something up or lift something. paaaaaain. so i went out and bought some glucosomine or whatever the hell it's called and tried that, and decided to get some of that centrum **** just to make sure i get all my vitamins. had a nightmare that my teeth were rotting out. :( my right tooth needs a filling or a cleaning or something. hopefully not a root canal. i'm frightened of the dentist cause of all the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ required for stupid ****, even with insurance. and i want to get new glasses ASAP cause these ones are starting to make my eyes hurt. =\

aside from medical stuff....went to the range today. almost got the scope sighted in, then like 5-6 other people came, of course they have binoculars and **** so couldn't check my target so i was like '**** that' and left....

When i got back from the range, i put Metal Gear Solid in and played that a bit...got far, then i went to work at the photo lab....

then i got home and watched 'Hostage' starring Bruce Willis. It was a cool movie, i didn't understand some of it though, so I may have to watch it a second time.

waiting for my buddy to get out of jail...he's in for 10 days for a DUI accident a few months ago that nearly killed him... he put a brand new car in a tree or something.

I have to work all day tomorrow and thursday. meh. i'm starting to hate prepping dough. i don't want to quit, cause i like getting a check EVERY week. =\ A couple of the people i work with are annoying.

still no girl in my life. it'll prolly be like that forever. everybody is a ****ing drug addict/alcoholic/smoker/mother around here.

Did the dentist thing. Just a cleaning and x-rays. My teeth look good now... but I drink so much tea and coffee that they won't stay like that for long.

I was going to run a few more errands after the appointment, but upon leaving the dentist's office I almost got into a car accident. Then another one. Then another...

Like 5 times in a row, all within a few blocks of each other. All of them required me to slam on the brakes and swerve dramatically to avoid hitting someone. The whole thing freaked me out so badly that I came straight home and laid down. It was very strange...

Don't stress out over it, just learn to hit them.

Btw, I live in the city and I am convinced that people from Philadelphia are the worst drivers in the world. There isnt a day that goes by that I don't want to ram into the dozens of a-holes who decide to either double park, or park in the middle of the road. And don't even get me started on the pedestrians who think that if they walk into the street when I have the right of way, that i would hesitate to paint my windshield with their bodies. Then again, I drive a Saturn, and they would probally do more harm to it than i to them. Oh well, such is life.

yeah been in 1 accident so far since i moved. here...2 stupid teens rammed into the back of my car at a stop sign...their car took more damage than mine. heck mine didn't take any damage at all. their front bumper fell off and the light got smashed. i drove off, cuz people up here suck and try to sue for stupid reasons. this was like a month ago btw. and then i go into work the same day, and in the parking lot, somebody just decides to pull out really fast and comes within a foot of hitting my front bumper. man i was pissed.

then last week...some stupid van pulls out of wendys right in front of me trying to get into the opposing lane expecting me to slow down....i blew him out and the **** put his head out the window and started yelling at me, then i get blown out and cut off while going through an intersection up a hill in like a ****ing merge, almost got hit by another ****ing van. thank god i can control my anger.

another thing that pisses me off is the ones that tailgate when i'm going 5-10 miles over the speed limit already. this morning on the way to work i had one of them up my butt, so i drove off the road and let him by. that's prolly the safest thing to do in those situations, unfortunately.

I would hate to see what it's like when you don't control your anger

well, the one time i accidentally punched in a glass door window cause it slammed on my hand and i went to push it away in a mad rage...i screamed a few bad words too. another time when i was mad...this was more recent...well i come out of walmart, and i look at my car and a part is hanging on the ground and i'm like 'WTF!' and at this point i think i'm screwed, so i ran up and kicked really really really hard at the rear passenger side door, and hurt my big left toe. 2 months later the toenail fell off...a new one pushed it out. :joy:

i just try my best not to get mad and give the stranger the benefit of the doubt. After all, anger leads to hatred, leads to suffering.....etc. XD

Pedestrians have right of way everywhere.

You've never been to Italy, I see... :p

Let's see, where did I leave off?...

Wed. 10/5/05

Mixed a show at work. Pretty easy, except for setting up all the video projection stuff the needed to use, and the fact that all their gear had buzzes and hums. That's always a pain...

I never got to sleep Wed. night. I don't know why... I just tossed and turned until I just got fed up enough to get out of bed at around 4:00am. I hate when that happens! I love my sleep!

Spent the rest of the night trying to troubleshoot some quirks that my PC has developed over the last couple of weeks, but in my sleep-deprived state I don't believe I was all too successful.

Thurs. 10/6/05

Miserable day at work... mainly because I was so exhausted. Never got a chance to get anything to eat all day either.

Started out with a boring, annoying meeting. Then we had to rush to set up for a clinic in the afternoon, but no stage crew was scheduled since it was added last-minute, so I and the other managers had to do all the work ourselves. Fortunately it wasn't too complicated. I ended up mixing the clinic, all the while fighting to keep awake.

We got a delivery of our new snake boxes that we have been waiting for weeks to get. They've been back-ordered forever, it seems. We finally got them, and the connectors didn't fit! I don't know how they got out of the shop like that, but we are being sent the parts to fix them ourselves. For the money we paid for this system there should be no "some assembly required."

The one bright spot to my day is that Shure sent back a bunch of mics we had sent off for repair. They just gave us a bunch of all-new ones in place of the old, no extra charge, even though I'm pretty sure nothing was in warranty. That's pretty damn decent of them! Shure ROCKS! Everyone go out and buy a Shure mic, right now!

I fell asleep the minute I got home, and slept until almost 2 am. I got up, went to the bathroom, listened to my voice-mail, ate half a sandwich and a glass of juice, and went right back to bed.

Fri. 10/7/05

Another clinic at work, but I was in a much better mood for this one.

Went out and bought the first 2 volumes of the Real Book (the new legal versions.) I already had both in the illegal versions, but these are actually nicer, and easier to read. Bought one for my dad as well, as his are starting to fall apart. I already shipped him Vol. 1 a few days back (he loves it,) so I picked him up Vol. 2 yesterday.

Played a couple of songs out of them last night after I got home.

Watched some TV, and went to bed early.

Gotta try to get to my bank before they close this morning. A few other errands I need to run, but since i have Monday off, I might save them until then.

You wouldn't have listened... :p

Sat. 10/8/05

Got to the bank before they closed. (Why do banks keep hours that anybody who holds a normal job cannot make? I would think that they would be open all day Saturdays and Sundays instead of closing early to make it easy for the folks who can't get there on weekdays. Oh well,.. now that I can do everything online I don't really care all that much.)

Did a couple of other errands, but mostly took it easy. Got lunch at McDonald's... don't know what inspired me to do that. The strawberry shake was good, though. Better than I remember them being. Got a couple of bucks off coupons to Best Buy. I'll find a way to put them to good use...

Sun. 10/9/05

More errands. Went out for breakfast (at 1:30 pm... good thing I know of a decent all-bay breakfast diner...) then over to the wholesale club. Bought a few necessaries, and a new set of luggage. I didn't really plan on the luggage, but I noticed after my last trip that mine was in pretty shoddy shape, so when I saw a whole set there for that price, I had to grab it. I've never owned a whole set of matching luggage before!

Now if I only had somewhere to go...

Spent the night watching old Blackadder videos. Still some of the funniest stuff ever on TV.

Mon. 10/10/05

Day off from work.

Spent most of the day doing housecleaning. Vacuumed the carpets downstairs, and mopped the kitchen floor. It had gotten pretty gross. Scrubbed the kitchen table (ditto) and the coffee table as well. Did some laundry (mostly sheets and pillowcases.) After seeing what my pillows looked like with the cases off I decided to go out and get some new ones. Big sale at K-Mart on all the pillows, it turns out. Lucky me!

Spent my Best Buy coupons picking up the Kill Bill Vol. 1 DVD.

Bought a couple of books on sale at Borders while I was over there (mostly art technique manuals.) I probably would have bought more, but I ran out of cash, and I promised myself that I would skip a couple of months of credit-card bills until I get my savings back up (I WILL get my new PC this year... or early next...)

I've got to try to get my dad's copy of The Real Book Vol. 2 off to him tomorrow. Stupid Post-Office, closed on a holiday. What are they thinking?!?? I could've gotten everything done today if it weren't for that. Oh well...

RL, you must be:

a) getting a lot of booze

b) getting a lot of weed (or other drug)

c) getting a lot of sex

cuz people don't say how much they love college because of the studies! so which is it?

Rogue15, you're really not a bright person, are you? Leaving the scene of an accident can get you arrested in most places, even if you have no damage to your car.

Reason I love college...

"Half the points on the essay answer wil be graded on spelling, grammer, proper use of the english language.

The other half will be on the content of your answer. Yes, Mr. Janzso, it is possible to get 10 points on the first question if you BS, but BS well."

Pol. Sci Major+this grading=A+ FTW!

(yes, i knew the damned answers.... i'm not THAT big of a slacker.... geez.)

I must beg to differ, Ike. I loved my college studies for all the reasons I hated high- and grade-school: I was there because I wanted to be; I was learning things I really wanted to learn; I could choose my teachers, and the level and speed at which I wanted to proceed; and since I'm the one paying the bills, I'm the one calling the shots!

Plus, since I went to music school, I also had a lot of fun. But the party aspect wasn't what I remember loving about college, although the social scene was a far better fit for me than at any other time of my life to date. I just really liked the idea of the directed learning of things I might actually use in my real life, rather than the scattershot-piling-on-of-(possibly relevant to somebody, someday)-facts approach that was my early educational career. It allowed me to express individuality and creativity, which were things that always seemed discouraged in the public school system.

It must have made some kind of impression on me, since I'm still there (now as an employee.)
