I mean do you guys first draw it and then start building it with gmax or something`?

Im just curious.

Hee hee hee ;) Hence the whole "I'll eat a plate of worms if this mod doesn't come out before April 31st." Cause April 31st never comes :D Now that's my kind of humor :D :D

@Svosh I'm noticing many killer projects you seem to be working on from the screenshots I see posted for you. All the cool masks and the like. I do know of at least one slated for the Ultimate package. I couldn't tell though if some were for KOTOR and TSL or all for TSL. Just curious? thx..DM ;)

T7nowhere was kind enough to provide such a link in the first post, first page. Just in case it managed to escape you, it's post like these that are pissing people off. Please stop. TIA.

Not a good idea, making a "preview" release, as you put it, would only delay the mod further.

Just wait, I am anxious about it too, but I am sure it will worth the wait, dont rush it.

Besides, there are some released sabers around that can hopefully hold you anxiety for a while.

I get alot of my ideas from here, especially if I'm drawing a complete blank for an 'original' design.

I have no clue where I thought of Zez's saber... I think it was food poisoning and the delirium that followed ;) hehehe...

Though sometimes ideas are submitted by others either via PM or the request thread. We've got alot of talented artists here at HL, and I'm sure if you're having problems thinking of a style, they'll be more than happy to 'submit' an idea they'd like to have...

I just finished a custom mod for someone (I won't mention it as he may want to release it at a later date), and he had submitted some designs from another site. After getting permission from that designer, it was pretty much touch-n-go. Not to mention I met yet another talented modeler ;)

My next project is of course Karou's Fenris Blade which was listed in the request thread... So there's tons of sources for ideas, just need to go looking sometimes. Though admittingly, I've neer sketched an idea out, I usually just tend to dive right into the MAX program and start building from the ground up... just see where it winds up taking me :D

Sorry for the non-USM post, but it's questions like this that was a rather welcomed compared to "release date" questions here of late... ;)

p.s. and I'd have to agree with T7. I'd rather spend the time tweaking and finalizing rather than building a preview ;)

Well I'VE got a question not related to a relase date :D..lol

Out of all you guys and gals working on the Ultimate mod; what program do you use? 3dStudioMax or Gmax? Does it matter in the end? Does one have better benefits (to us) over the other (of course 3DSM is a pro program and MUCHO expensive)

Secondly do any of you guys use anything other than Photoshop?

Thirdly do you guys do all of your own stuff or do you split up the work?

:D DM

3dsMax is heaps better if you can get it (its 800 for a 2 year student liscence :( ), I got it legit because i need it for animation.

It doesnt really give you any advantage here as Gmax is the same only it has alot of options cut out so that the only thing it is useful for is what everyone here uses it for - putting stuff in games.

1) I use 3ds and PS. The advantages of 3ds over gmax is huge, its much easyer to UVmap with 3ds, there are many more modeling tools availible and 3ds has a renderer. You can render with gmax but you need several 3rd party tools to accomplish it and its not the easyest thing to do. once you get a hang of it rendering with gmax is simple I suppose but very aukward.

2) an older version of PS. I still don't know how to use 99% of the tools ;)

3) We all do our own stuff. When we decided to make USM we split up who would model what, but after that each model is completely built From model concept to textureing to making icons, uti's are all done by the one person that built the model. I can't imagine it any other way.

We all have our own distinct style and it is quite obvious when you see the textures together. Personally I couldn't let anyone make the textures for me. I like the challenge of doing it my self, plus I find modeling and textureing calming, not like writing scripts ;)

i just pray, that when it comes out, something bad wont happen, like the downloads break due to broadwith, or they dont work correctly with my installed mods or something like that.

hehe. I hope they dont!

That makes me fell a whole lot better now. :D I've only got Gmax. 'Was always curious what it was about your screenshots that just screamed "quality" when mine screamed "hacked together." :)

Yea I know what you're talking about M_G, I only have gmax, but I read through some 3dsmax tutorials and wish I had it just because it makes uvmapping a lot easier, although I should probably find somewhere to take a class on modeling, either that or just sit and practice 24/7, but hey, some of my stuff isn't all that bad ;)

Bro, that's the understatement of the year ;)

Your stuff kicks major arse and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

I think we all get inspiration from each other, and I often find myself browsing over other modeler's and modder's stuff for ideas, sorta a "how'd they do that?" self-help tutorial hehehe... That and just for the sheer eyecandy factor :D

There's no telling how many mods I've "dissected" to see how things are done. In fact, RedHawk'e Exile Item mod helped me take the step into scripting (ick.. heheh)... Not sure if I should thank him or throw my shoe at him  And of course once the word "scripting" left my mouth, legions of HL scripters were right there to help me fill in the blanks... let's see Darth333, tk102, stoffe -mkb-, Xcom, Envida, beancounter, Darkkender & RedHawke to name a few ;)

@Darth Melignous

like T7, I use 3dsMAX and Photshop as primary tools (MDLOps and KT are givens when modeling ;) )... and I'd have to agree, I just can't see someone else skinning or building something of mine.. I like the challenge and it helps me keep my "skills" up. Though a co-release mod is entirely different in that aspect. There's parts to the mod, but each of us work on our own part, with an occasional query every now and then for "tips & tricks" ;)

Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with it, it's just how I personally like to do things..

Though that doesn't mean I'm beyond starting a thread or 2 for some help. (we all know that.. heheh) There's no 'dis-honor' in wanting to learn something and admitting that you don't know how to do it... :)
