To all computer nerds

Hey everyone, I need help from someone wise in the way of The Computer.

I've been living in Japan for the last 8 months and bought a computer here, but understandably Windows is all in Japanese. That's been fine for the most part, it's usually pretty obvious which button means "okay" and which means "cancel" and when to hit them.

But I've been having some problems lately and need to change a bunch of my settings. I tried but it's too dang hard to do it without English. u_u

I need to know if there's any way I can get English Language for my Windows program, and where I could find it and how big it might be... U_U

Thank you. n_n

~L.

Try and find your way through this,

1. Click Start -> Control Panel -> Date, Time, Language, and Regional Options -> Regional and Language Options

2. On the Regional Options tab select the region you want to use.

That could work for you. I've never tried.

phaw ! Luyane's Av = Hot. Never seen you around before Lujayne, an s-mod too ...

anyways, Id contact whoever has admin priveleges to that compy. Most likely, the other languages werent installed. It would require a re-install to include english language support :p

If you are using XP then (in english) you can right click on the taskbar and choose the top option ("toolbars >") and then select the 4th option down ("language bar")

This puts a little "EN" on the taskbar which you can click to choose other languages.

(EN being for english of course)

Right click it and choose the second one up ("Settings...") to get a control panel that allows you to choose what language options it gives you.

(there is an "Add" botton on the right to add new languages").

Though on the english versions of windows it doesn't include japanese font support by default, so it may not include english language support by defaul on yours. If so, you can probably download it from the windows update site.

How come you are in Japan? I'm thinking of going....

Teaching english, or do did you speak enough japanese to get a local job?

Any advice?

Oh shut up! :p

*sulks*

;)

But actually i'm not entirely sure whether Windows OS language supprt is the same as that in web pages. You're probably right though....

In that case it should be easy to set up the language bar and swap back and forwards between english and japanese as required.

[edit] having said that, i've tried it on my pc here and all it does is change the input language, not the onscreen text. I don't have admin rights thoguh so that may affect it. I was sure you coud use that language bar to change onscreen languages.... though a lot of software is only available in certain languages...

True, but that dosn't make him a hot chick, you could be forgiven for thinking chick (I did), but not hot chick.

Anyway, i think the language is installed when you install windows, if the languages are not installed you can't change between them, but I'm sure you have worked that out.

I had enough trouble changing my keyboard from American to English.

good luck.

Wow, Nine, I'm impressed! It is indeed Miyavi, a Japanese singer. And Astrotoy, if it'll make you feel any better, anyone that I've ever shown Miyavi pics to has always responded with "wow, she's hot!". It seems that men make the best looking women. O_o Here in Japan my husband and I have a game we like to play: "guess the gender". Sometimes it's tough, you know. c_c

Hehe. Anyhoo.

It seems that I'm going to be stuck with a Japanese Windows forever. (*sigh*) We tried all the stuff in the above posts, but actually, it never changed anything. Weird. Thanks anyway. ^_^

Hi Red, it's nice to see you alive too! n_n

Lu, if reinstallimng windows hasnt fixed the problem for you, then you need to get your hands on an english installation CD... if all else fails, contact Microsoft :(

Damn that Mr Miyagi, he looks like a damn chick. What else a hot blooded Astro toyboy like me supposed to think !! :p

Lujayne,

Have you tried to get someone who actually reads Japanese (but speaks English) to go in and change the settings for you? There must be a couple of them around there... ;)

That seems like it might be the easiest thing to do. There are always language packs on Microsoft's website... maybe your PC just doesn't have an English one.

And if all else fails and worse comes to worst, have an American send you a copy of Windows... Or learn to read Japanese fluently.

:joy:

PS -- Good to see you again. :)
