CrudeMatter
lolol I got a kick out of the 4yrold with the pudding thing. lolol hrm... as I was saying, = ) now see, THAT was more constructive than 'boo-frickity-hoo" or whatever. Though to say a teen needs to snap BACK into reality implies that they've been there before. That seems like asking too much... at least in many cases. a firm grasp on "reality" doesn't really set in until later... if at all. lol And... I certainly wasn't claiming that emo was 'art'...especially good art, in any but the most technical of senses. I'm pretty sure its crap on a stick, and I have zero interest in confirming that. Nonetheless, it is marketed as music which is technically an 'art', by definition... however loosely. It was simply the most efficient term to use in that place. Also, I wasn't accusing you, individually, of being low on empathy... you're clearly a rational person or I would not have wasted the energy on the discussion. If anything, I would say that empathy is a subtle skill, wherein there is often a fine line between "well...lets talk about this..." and "shutcher whiny pie-hole!". The society isn't formally trained for it as an advanced skill. Last I recall, there were no high-school classes in empathy(it has been awhile), but corporate 'sensitivity training' is rampant. ...and if workforce 'adults' need it, I'm betting teens and pre-teens need it more. I'm pretty sure you're not claiming that most people would be especially helpful to someone they perceived as whining. fair enough? side note- econo-box? lololol luv it. i've had my share. lololol adam sandler's pos car lol ...u know what i'm talkin about. = )

El Sitherino
a firm grasp on "reality" doesn't really set in until later... if at all. lol True enough. But it doesn't mean you can't try. The society isn't formally trained for it as an advanced skill. Last I recall, there were no high-school classes in empathy(it has been awhile), but corporate 'sensitivity training' is rampant. ...and if workforce 'adults' need it, I'm betting teens and pre-teens need it more. You kinda have an empathy session when you take sociology and psychology, but then again those were elective classes... I'm pretty sure you're not claiming that most people would be especially helpful to someone they perceived as whining. fair enough? Well generally it is a bit futile to assist someone that won't even try to help themselves.

You got sociology and psycholgy in high school?!? <startin' to feel like a geezer over here> As to "won't help themselves"... speaking generally, I honestly don't beleive that this phenomenon exists. I'll buy "don't see how to help themselves" but that is a very meaningful distinction.(of course someone else might not know how to help them either) ...or even "don't beleive that what options they see will work"... again, a meaningful distinction. One takes a little education, the other takes a little encoragement from someone trusted well enough. We all need a little education and encouragement from time to time... not to mention someone to trust. and its hard to trust someone that you don't beleive understands, or cares about, your position. Bob Lion54
How do you chop up the quote like that?... it seems quite handy. As long as the [ Quote=membername] is there, you can just chop up a quote. (space between "[" and "Quote" is so that it does not acutally make a quote) For an example, I'll break the quote by putting a space in the "end quote" code, like so: [/ quote]. For the quote to work, there should be no space. [Q UOTE=CrudeMatter]How do you chop up the quote like that?...[/ QUOTE] and [Q UOTE=CrudeMatter]it seems quite handy.[/ QUOTE] Would look like, How do you chop up the quote like that?... it seems quite handy. Also, if you want to quote multiple posts, instead of double posting(which is considered rude), just hit the "Quote post" button, copy the part you want to quote, go to the next post you want to quote, hit the "quote post" button, paste the other quote, rinse and repeat as many times as necessary, and add your comments in between! Hope that helps, young Padawan. Yes wise Master Bob! hehe
El Sitherino
I honestly don't beleive that this phenomenon exists. I'd wish it didn't, but there are some people in this world that just want everything given to them without doing anything to make things happen for them. They just sit around and expect people to come up and give them jobs/money/DVD's/whatever. Essentially they remain in a child-like state of mind. Probably due to getting everything they wanted as a child, or they're just delusional.

MdKnightR
Well, hopefully the last thing I have to say on the subject is this...People should just enjoy the music without worrying about what some fanatics that identify with it are doing. I hated Bon Jovi when I was in high school, and not because their music was bad (because it isn't). It was due to the fact that so many girls were into that band at the time that I thought of them as being too popular for a metalhead to take seriously. Now I listen to them all the time (the old songs that is). All I am saying is if you like the music, listen to it.

Renegade Angel
Meh, it's quite different. People said that of many styles of music. However, modern emo fans follow a geekish template of clothing and crying alone in a corner and whining about everything and nothing. I know a few emos. I have a close friend who's emo. Always whining about how his life sucks, blablabla, how people don't understand him, how he's always abandoned. Yet we're here for him. We try to cheer him up but it's always back into the corner of "I'm going to end in an asylum!", "People don't understand what I'm going through!", etc. At a certain point, you just want to help him by putting your fist into his face. So THATS why no one likes me! Thankx!

If you want to discuss Picasso, please know that I am an art teacher. He did not imitate life "very poorly" as you put it. Lets stay on topic, shall we? Renegade Angel
Ok guys, say on topic. Yes, I dislike Rap (ALOT) but I've always liked Emo songs. I'm a skater, and all my skater firends like Emo songs. Deal With It. PS I like Picasso. He did some great paintings and such.
El Sitherino
Who says we arent' dealing with it? You asked opinions, we gave them. And this isn't exactly a hijacking since we're still pretty much on topic, just a variation of it. PS: What does being a skater have to do with your musical tastes (or lack of)? Emo also goes up there with rap which is an acronym for: Retards Attemping Poetry I take it you've never taken creative writing or a poetry class. Therefore I'll let you off the hook with that. However Rap is essentially musical poetry. And all these big name tards like 50 cent and Ja Rule and whoever else, don't really make up rap as a whole, infact they're quite a deviation from the form itself. Put rap into a star wars world and they'd be the Sith-wannabe's. Perversions of the force.
Renegade Angel
Dunno, but all the skaters where I live like Emo, Punk, and Alternative Rock. Just like Me! (Of course, i liove in boring, cracked Pennsylvania) (Lol, my friend lives in Colorado, he lives in the town that has the most amount of rapes and the most drug abuse. We were on the phone yesterday, and I told him he seriously needs to move.)

Kensai
Surely, although I like to come to the party late, emo's are just people trying to be individual by being the same as all the rest of the sad bastards...
