Dear Everyone,

What is a good MMORPG that meets my three biggest requirements?

1. NOT made by SOE, or Sony Online Entertainment.

2. Has a good storyline and plenty of opportunities to roleplay.

3. Has good options for character customization and character class.

Any suggestions?

Sincerely,

Tysyacha

Sure, there's plenty of other MMORPGs. Guild Wars could be a good first choice as it doesn't have any monthly fees.

World of WarCraft is great if you like the WarCraft universe.

I would personally avoid Everquest. There's a reason why it's called Evercrack. You have to spend too much time into it just to gain one tiny level. Besides, too many elitists there and I'm not fond of their combat system.

Hmmmm...City of Villains just came out some time ago if you're into super heroes.

City of Heroes still exists.

You could wait a bit for the Lord of the Rings Online or the Dungeons and Dragons MMORPGs. I don't know how they'll turn out but they look interesting.

You could look at this:

Know that 90% of those are Korean MMORPGs. Those Koreans sure love their MMO :D

If you want a storyline, go for Guild Wars. Serious.

It also has perfect PvP options,

AND your character actually has 2 classes wich skills you can combine.

And, no monthly fee ^^

You could visit these sites for extra information:

http://www.guildwars.com

http://www.gwvault.com

http://www.guildwarsguru.com

You can see some custom builds there, and judge for youself.

Also, Guild Wars is Ati-Radeaon Supported. So if you have an Ati, graphics will be gorgeous.

AND... Guildwars has an expansion pack coming out that will encorporate (dark) elves. :3 Which is what Ive really been holding out for. The scenery and stuff for the elf lands looks really beautiful.

I didn't know that :D

I only knew they were going to add a new race, and new types of weapons. And weapons designed by players. How do u know so sure?

Cause i love Night Elves too :)

What is the state of Matrix Online right now anyway? And why do you say it is only for the hardcore fans? Just curious.

Well, in my opinion, it seems perfectly ajusted to Matrix fans. Others might find something there, but the whole world, the whole setting, everything is for Matrix hardcore fans.

Besides, it's not worth it.

PCGamer magazine I believe, had a several page special on the upcoming ex-pack. :)

If your head explodes...how can you sing?

There is an MMORPG out there called Runescape. STAY AWAY FROM IT AT ALL COSTS! IF YOU HAVE TO DESTROY YOUR COMPUTER TO GET AWAY FROM THE SITE, DO IT!

Whats the fun of playing as an orc? Why would you want to play as a bad guy anyway? Ive never figured that out.

Because, Good guys are so lame.....they always win.....no matter what movie we see orgame we play with the exception of KOTOR & KOTOR II, The hero's always win. Its so damn predictable. When I play a MMORPG or watch something, For once, I would love to see evil Triumph. It adds a nice change to things, makes it less predictable, and more interesting.

Example: Don't ya ever get sick of Luke Skywalker winning the battle, no matter who he fights. No matter what happens you know that good guy is always gonna survive, and single handedly destroy the bad guys. wouldn't it be nice just to see the Darkness tip the scales for once and prevail.

Another book where the bad guys win is M.T. Anderson's "Feed".

Also, any story by Anton Chekhov has a morally ambiguous ending.

The "good" characters don't ALWAYS win in the end. For example,

Doctor Startsev starts out as the hero, despising the petty and

vulgar attitudes and lifestyles of the people in his hometown,

but in the end, Startsev ends up mired in this same lifestyle.
