Ray Jones
If it totally goes downhill by not booting anymore, you might consider putting it into the fridge. No, seriously, it worked for me a couple of times, at least for getting the data off of it before you throw it into the shredder. Or you could like wipe the data and give it to a "friend" because "you don't need it anymore" because you could "afford a newer, larger one" and your "controller's capacity is already reached". Of course, the man of moral, that you are, would not do this, now would you?
edlib
I almost never throw anything like that away. Chances are: My estate will probably find it after I die. I'm pretty bad that way... I doubt there's much data on it anybody would ever really want, however. I've been saving anything of any importance right to the 2nd drive for a couple of years now, and then only temporarily until I can back up on removable media. Nute Gunray
I got my cello out the other day and I'd really like to play for the first time in a few years. But the damn thing is so out of tune I can't get it back again. And I'm afraid to break a string since I have no idea where I'd get a new one in this town. College town music stores are, as I'm sure you can imagine, very guitar-centric.
Keyan Farlander
If it's been a few years, you need to change the strings anyway, though. Why not order them online?
Rogue15
just watched this weird movie called 'the proposition' saw it on blockbuster shelf and picked it out of curiousity.....i liked the Ned Kelly but this movie is just ****ed up.
Keyan Farlander
I saw the movie Copying Beethoven last night, which, believe it or not, I actually consulted on a bit. For the Beethoven lover, it is a must see. I think anyone who is an artist or who has had dreams of being one, professional or otherwise, will take something special away from this film. edlib
I'm at work right now. Doing sound for classic-rock legend Donovan tonight. Just finished soundcheck. Should be fun. We had Medeski, Martin, and Wood with John Scofield here 2 nights ago. A giant rock opera tribute band last night (they also did a lot of Queen covers, which was pretty cool.) Finally get a day off tomorrow. I plan on sleeping. And that's about it. Maybe watching the Dirty Dozen DVD I bought a few weeks back. Only 3 days to work next week. Yay. I'll have to spend one day off at the mechanic's, though. I got a brake pad that's just grinding away. What a pleasant sound. It's been like that all week, but I've been too busy, and haven't been able to do anything about it yet.
Zargon
pad must be toast. they usually are when they make the grinding noises, down to the straight iron backplate ray: that may be too much info about your personal grooming there buddy well the motor in my new old truck promptly went out, unsure how exactly, possibly the antifreeze mixture was too watery or the antifreeze was too old, and it got down to 20 last week, cracked something in the block, either way I am sans 4-wheeled vehicle AGAIN. This damn truck was supposed to get me through winter, now I am rushing to rent garage space and purchase an engine hoist to I can then acquire a new engine, of course, w/o a truck, how do I pick up a new engine?? oh the pain..... it ruined my plans for purchase of a Wii and zelda/red steel
Rogue15
working straight on up til the 30th....my manager messed up by calling me in yesterday, thinking i was scheduled to work when i knew i wasn't (i make sure i check schedule for next day upon exiting store), so i got 4 hours in so i'll be getting a good amount of money next paycheck, 40 hrs plus holiday pay...i believe i was scheduled for 36. I'm good at making breakfast, French Toast i make is excellent. Yesterday since i was kinda called in on short notice, i didn't eat anything all day until 7pm. kind of weird as i wasn't feeling light-headed by that time, and only ate 2 slices of pizza. Got a hunting spot for the 1st day of deer rifle season, and went to the range to make sure it was sighted in for me, managed to hit direct bullseye once and the rest within 6 inches of bullseye without assistance, except my elbow resting on the shooting bench to keep steady. so i think it's sighted in pretty good. just gotta clean it, and i'll be good to go. started playing knights of the old republic II: the sith lords again.....only played through it once, playing a second time is pretty fun. I like the sidequests and such. i've been trying to keep at the pushups. I'm managing 20 in a set, i try to get 100+ pushups in a day so i can do more than 20 at a time...my current goal is 30 per set, which is a fair challenge. edlib
Let's see... this week in review: Monday and Tuesday: Working. Nothing much to report there... Wednesday: Spent the day running around, trying to get everything (mostly a month or more worth of shopping...) done before Thanksgiving and subsequent holiday frenzy. Thursday: Up early to get to the relatives. Watched "Cars" when I got home. Not as good as most of the Pixar stuff... but still better than most of the crap I see. Friday: Up early again to get my car to the dealership. It was there most of the day. Thankfully I had a ride back home. They replaced the rear brakes, did a tune-up, and also talked me into changing those tires that the other place wanted to change. I guess they really were in rough shape... I never mentioned the tires to them, but they told me the exact same story that the tire place did. Set me back a pretty penny, but the car is running like it was the day I got it. Let's hope it can last this way a few more years before I have to do this again. Once home again, I watched "Ice Age 2" and "The Dirty Dozen." Yesterday: A little more shopping (pet store only... I'm not crazy enough to go anywhere near the malls at this point...) and then a nice long joy ride to try to enjoy the car while it's running well and to give it a good shakedown cruise. Plus,.. get out of the house while the weather is still nice. Got as far as Plymouth taking all the back roads before it started getting dark and I started getting hungry and I started home. Watched the Dirty Dozen sequel (pretty bad...) then a couple of episodes of "Band of Brothers" to wash the bad taste out of mouth. Today I'll probably take a nice long walk. I should try to do some house cleaning... but the day is bright, and it's unseasonably warm, and I don't see another opportunity for any real exercise in the coming weeks. So housekeeping is going to have to wait.
Keyan Farlander
Had to do some repairs over the weekend. Replaced a fill valve in the toilet. Still not sure that's 100% right. Now I've got to replace one of the headlights in my car. I have the bulb, but I suspect the problem is worse than that...
edlib
Yeah, I replaced the fill valve a while back. Seems to still be working, even though, like you, I had my doubts. I've changed out the flush handle, too. Right now my big plumbing problem seems to be the kitchen sink occasionally backing up.
Keyan Farlander
Well, the headlight seems to work fine, but the toilet is leaking pretty badly. I don't get it
Rogue15
went out opening day of deer rifle season. called in late for work that day so i didn't need to be thinking of work while i was out having fun. I saw about 12 deer, 10 doe and 2 bucks that weren't legal to shoot. I couldn't shoot the doe cause my tags say different county (going there tomorrow) so that kinda sucked, esp when this one like walked right in front of me like 15m away. pissed me off. guess i got from tomorrow-saturday to make up for it. Zargon
my turkey holiday blew, got stuck going to my brothers, and basically spent 2 days dogsitting their puppy, and being woken up at 6am by my 2 year old niece watching TV(I have to sleep in the living room) and mom and dad are too lazy to deal with her and tell her she cant since I am sleeping there, the lack of sleep over that long weekend ended with me getting the Flu grumble grumble. edlib
Ah. Well... Then you are of no further use to me! Begone with you! Just spent the last couple of hours re-reading both of these "One-Year" threads back-to-back. Hmmmph... what a desperate pack of weird, lonely, nerdly losers we often appear to be when taken in that type of chunk. Not much of a flattering portrait at all. Made me somewhat depressed that I really haven't done more with the last 2 years. Also that I kind of squandered the day sitting here reading when I could have been out there in the world, attempting to resolve that very issue. As it is I'm thinking of getting something to eat, and then maybe going back to bed...

edlib
Well, we all do in our own way, don't we? Ray Jones
This last year two-double-O-six tought me "wisdom" at least worth a decade of a man's life. It also easily topped the worst case scenario from 2005 several times, causing me to live through one best case scenario to the next in the end. To make a point - I now fully understand the following gibberish-nes: Love is a stainless steel eagle inscribed with hellish utterances, jet black, bristling with missiles and chain guns under a forty-foot wingspan that comes screeching down upon you on a moonless, stormy night. Its only purpose can be to destroy. That is, of course, not a green-slave-girl-kind-of-love-thing, is it? I mean, it's black? No, no...the color of love is definitely black. Black like the devil's nightmares, like orc blood drying in the sun. Not even a little gray--black, I tell you. Lust, on the other hand, is orange. Not sure why. Nothing rhymes with orange. Keeps all those potential poets from writing too many sonnets about it. Lord knows, the last thing we need is even more sonnets and bad pop songs about "the colour of my lust!" Orange? Hm. Might be because of the juice. %) Albeit you were giving me like a bit of a hard time, thanks a lot, 2006!
