xmovingpicturesx
I downloaded the GIMP, and the GTK, but my pc says I can't install the GTK because I already have it. I've looked everywhere on my hard drive. Program Files, WINDOWS, under my bed, EVERYWHERE! I can't find where it is. So, is there a, still free, alternative to GIMP that can allow me to do much the same thing, and recognizes psd and png files? I'm looking to start making my own avs and sigs. All help is appreciated.
ChAiNz.2da
Paint.NET is looking better and better these days.. and of course, it's free http://www.eecs.wsu.edu/paint.net/index.html
xmovingpicturesx
How does this work? Is it more like PSP or Adobe? I'm actually more familiar with PSP, I've been using it for about three years, until my brother deleted it.
Bob Lion54
Quick question. Have you tried not installing the GTK and just installing GIMP?

I use Photoshop CS2 But I imagine it works similar to any image editor that incoporates the ability to read layers.. The Tool palette layout looks strikingly like Photoshop's but that's about as much as I personally know about the prog..
Det. Bart Lasiter
It's very similar to Photoshop, however, it doesn't have as many tools and things like that, but you can program your own tools with it. It does however, contain all the tools you'll need to mod KotOR (32-bit Targa support, brushes, RGBA palette)
xmovingpicturesx
Well, I tried to install the GIMP, and it said I need the GTK. I try to install the GTK, it says I already have it. Anyway, I'm not modder, as I don't have either game on PC, and I've never used Photoshop, and I've never made my own tools for anything. It seems like all I'm good for is making avs and sigs. ^_^
Det. Bart Lasiter
What I meant by creating your own tools is that you can create your own effects and things like that that are compiled to DLLs by the program If you can't install GIMP or get a copy of Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro, then Paint .NET is a good alternative, plus it's open source and free
xmovingpicturesx
Well, I'm downloading it now. From the screenshots it looks like there are a whole lot more options than the GIMP *and* PSP.
xmovingpicturesx
Okay, now I'm having problems with Paint.NET. For some reason it won't let me open .psds. I click open, I go to the folder with the .psds and they don't appear. I don't know what's wrong. Also, I can't blend objects into each other. PSP had this thing where you could change the opacity of one layer, then change the blend type. As in hard light, burn, dodge, that sort of thing. If I can't figure this thing out, I might have to just continuosly download PSP demos. They're are also other features which it lacks, such as: bevelling, text outline, gradients, glow effects, shine effects, and others. I could do all of this with PSP, but I just don't have the money. Are thier add-ons, hacks, and stuff that can allow me to do this? I really need the help. Thanks in advance.
Jeff
PSDs are photoshop files, so I wouldn't think you could open them in paint, which is the most basic graphic editing program. If you can't afford photoshop, I would recomment The Gimp, a free photoshop-like program.

xmovingpicturesx
Well, apparently the program doesn't support .psds. It does however support .pdn, .png, .tif, .tiff, and .tga. Do either of these support transparency ASWELL AS layers?
El Sitherino
Try keeping your complaints to one thread.
xmovingpicturesx
Yeah, sorry. Both threads weren't really complaints. One was asking for a program, the other was a complaint. But your the mod, what can I do? ^_^
Bob Lion54
It does however support .pdn, .png, .tif, .tiff, and .tga. Do either of these support transparency ASWELL AS layers? png and tga both support transparency, but I'm not sure about the others. I don't think any browser can display a tga file. pngs are very large and are not the best option for a sig. (also, with pngs, IE does not display the transparency. Instead, you will see white.) Your best options are JPEG for sigs without transparency and GIF for sigs with transparency.
xmovingpicturesx
Is there a way to convert a psd file to a png wihtout opening the file? That seems pretty farfetched, but I'll do anything.

IrfanView: http://www.irfanview.com/ XnView: http://perso.wanadoo.fr/pierre.g/xnview/enhome.html Both are image readers that open, convert & support various filters. I know that IrfanView will/can use Photshop filters you can download from Adobe Studio Exchange
