Guest DarthMaulUK
The games been out a while now and much like me, most of you haven't learnt everything. Has anything surprised you during the game? Did you learn any new tricks or strategies whilst playing either against the AI or online? Personally, being the Rebels, using the Raid function can be a total life saver when trying to attack a well defended Imperial planet - the last thing you fleet needs is a Hypervelocity gun firing at you. A small raid I sent out, took out the gun - just the gun, nothing else and made way for my fleet to attack space. Neat feature. Some ideas here might help others get more out of the game and there is most certainly more to come DMUK
stingerhs
actually, i've also found the raid fleets to be extroidinarily useful. i especially prefer to use a raid fleet of one T4 and two Infiltrators on lightly defended planets and just go ahead and take them right out from underneath the Imperial's noses. its a bit difficult to do on the tougher difficulties or against a good opponent, but its definately rewarding. another thing that i liked to do (with both sides) is to set traps. build two ion cannons/hypervelocity cannons on the surface and leave a lone frigate in orbit with just a Stage 2 Space Station. oh, and don't forget that the planet is situated so that a trade route connects to it which allows me to very, very quickly send in a massive backup fleet to help defend the planet before the other, and hopefully massive, fleet gets there. its definately one of the best tricks in the book. oh, and it works best if you have a gravity well of some kind already in orbit (via an Interdictor or the actual gravity well sattelite). hehe, good times... star wars lover
My favorite strategy is similar to that above, however: I like to have just a level 3 space station and either Maradur or Broadside Missile Crusiers. When the pathetic force hypers in, I'll send my fighters & bombers to disable their engines, while the missile crusiers use their "Barrage Area" ability to entirely pwn anything in the way. gswift
Well, I've noticed that there is a HUGE difference in the tactics between 1 vrs 1 and 2+ vrs 2+ games. I think the games with more than two players are the ones that really make this game come to life. The best tactic I've found is to team up with someone who knows your way of playing and vice versa. The actual tactics and units used don't matter so much, as long as you both have the same plan. If you haven't tried a 3v3 or 4v4, then I'd say you haven't tried one of the best features of this game. The system of shared base/resources makes multiplayer a true team effort, more so than some of the other rts multiplayer games.
Darth Alec
Makes me think of my "battle of endor" experience....... Oh, and one important thing i figured out, was that space was the hotkey for the battlecam. I'm so smart.....
ScorLibran
I've enjoyed exploring the range of usability of each unit type in the game - especially considering everything has one or more specific "counters" defined. The only unit I've found so far that's a "silver bullet" - one that can do anything in it's setting - is the Corellian Gunship. Also, standard infantry is greatly underrated, in my opinion, using "Take Cover" to double their longevity. I've used plain stormtroopers in swarms to take down T2-Bs systematically - and by the dozen - and not lose nearly as many of them as I'd expect. And this on hard difficulty. The only thing that wipes them out too fast to deal with (if you get them too close) is artillery. One of my favorite things is to use only units at the lowest techs (1 or 2) to beat an enemy at tech 5. In other words, I go against the "recommended counters" quite a bit. It's definitely a challenge; the means to defeat many times, but very rewarding when I discover a "new formula" that works well and wasn't known or published before. In this "counter-heavy" game, it's possible more often than you'd think.
Lucho
In the begining i was surprised what a great damage the artillery and bombers can cause. I liked that the AT-ATs can deploy stormtroopers like transport vehicles.
Guest DarthMaulUK
I discovered the power that is the TIE Mauler! Man, I had so much fun - although the best was when I got Chewie to steal one, drove straight at a bunch of Maulers and hit self-destruct. Took the lot out (5 of them) - so cool, and they can run over troopers. DMUK
gswift
I've come to notice something in space multiplayer when the game is really close. Usually the games are very one-sided, but once in a while I'm faced with a really tough match, or one that I may even be losing. When this is the case, it's the team that does the best job of micromanaging thier fleet who will prevail. Carefull selection of targets, and carefully planned movements are key. Stay behind your foes, focus fire from multiple ships on one target, and be aware of the rock-paper-scisors relations. I've also noticed that when the base is under attack nobody ever bothers to tell the base what to fire at, so it wastes most of it's immense power against fighters. If you tell the base to fire at capitol ships in stead of fighters, it can be devestating. I think lots of people just build units and deploy them, then kinda forget about them. You can always tell when a corvette is not facing towards any single target. lol That's when I know I have a chance to make things happen.

wedge2211
I have been noticing all the musical "hits" from the A New Hope soundtrack built into the game...of course the clip from the track "Standing By" is easy to identify when tactical combat is initiated, and I love the brass fanfare snippet from "Inner City" that is played when Death Star construction is completed. Jeff
I'm still learning the stuff everybody else already knows Haven't had a lot of chances to play the game since I got it.
wedge2211
I've been so hooked on Galactic Conquest mode, where tactical combat fits intot he larger strategic theater, that that's all I've been playing (when I have free moments to spend on EaW). Believe it or not, I just played my first space skirmish today. Woah! Great fun! I've found my new 20-minute diversion. I love engrossing campaign stories (Blizzard all the way...I think that EaW could efinitely improve in this area), but for instant action, skirmish games are absolutely great, especially when I don't feel like investing the next four hours of my life in a computer game!
