Det. Bart Lasiter
Out of curiousity, what OS shells (i.e Blackbox, Bluebox, Windows default, etc, etc) do people here use? I've tried a lot of different ones (I'm using Aston right now), however I'd like to see what shells people use and/or would recommend for any OS, be it Linux, Windows, or Mac (if it's possible to use a 3rd-party shell with Macs). Nerd_Annhilator
http://bb4win.sourceforge.net/bblean/ I like bblean, a lot.
Jeff
I used to use bblean for windows but I got sick of it eventually. I'm sure it's not like this for everyone but eventually it got really slow and had a ton of bugs. It would never shut down properly either, I always had to say end task for it when I shut down or restarted. So I got sick of it and went back to just using custom themes for the default windows shell. I have used Fluxbox for linux and I didn't like it that much, it's similar to blackbox, but I far prefer using Gnome for Linux. Very customizable and looks great
manoman81
I used litestep for the longest time. It was cool but I couldn't find a theme I liked and Auto Windows update never worked. Bblean was ok for a while. Again, couldn't find a theme I liked. I'm using a hacked version of the XP default. If you google for the hacked uxtheme.dll and the replacer program (super easy way to make sure it works) you can get some nice themes that people made for free. **BE WARNED** Make sure you make a backup of the original uxtheme.dll in your c:\windows\system32 folder first. I use this visual style . It's nice and clean. I believe that this is the link for the one with the multiple colors. I like it.
Lorden Darkblade
In here I use StyleXP with the theme 6pack black. I like to have themes with a small start-bar, the one from Windows XP is too thick. Specially for me that use 2 rows. >_> <_<
Acrylic
After reading this thread, I started using Aston. It's so sweet. I'm using the Pale Boundaries theme. It's really cool. And I love the customizableness (word?) of it all!
BongoBob
I'm really liking Aston. It's just so damn customizable.

Check it out here, you might be pleasantly surprised (I was) http://www.astonshell.com/ Thanks for the link. Going to check it. EDIT: Checked, it seems that this Aston is indeed very good but it also looks like it uses a lot of ram. Does it uses a lot of the PC ram and processor or no? StyleXP doesn't use much that I'm aware of...
Det. Bart Lasiter
Thanks for the link. Going to check it. EDIT: Checked, it seems that this Aston is indeed very good but it also looks like it uses a lot of ram. Does it uses a lot of the PC ram and processor or no? StyleXP doesn't use much that I'm aware of... It uses slightly more RAM than the Windows default shell (Explorer), but there's an application built in to it called "Shell Swapper". I assume you can guess what it does
