The Doctor
I just got back from seeing this one. I thought it was fairly well done, all things considered. The animation was cheesy in places, and it started to drag for a bit near the end, but overall, a good movie. For those of you who saw it, what did you think? MdKnightR
I can't wait to see it. I was very skeptical of the whole project when I heard that they had decided to cast someone other than Tom Welling in the role, but then I saw the trailers and was blown away! I hope the movie is as good as its previews.
mimic666
Probably gonna see this one after I cash my PayCheck tommorow, the trailer looks really good.
Raven_Onasi
I think that they could have picked a better actor to play Superman! Superman has been my favorite action hero since I was little. So when they got this wack-job(no-offence) and its just heart breaking. My six year old cousin looks buffer than the guy they got to play Superman. I refuse to go and see the move, for the simple fact that they completely ruined Supermans image.
Achilles
"wack-job" is based on what? Previous movies that you've seen him in a starring role? Personal experiences? Chris Reeves put on about 20 lbs of muscle for his shot at Superman, but he wasn't handing out tickets to "the gun show" either. So what exactly is your qualm here? EDIT: Looks pretty comparable to me: Granted Routh didn't attend Juliard, however he does have more Hollywood experience than Reeve did when he starred in the 1978 version. He was such an "unknown" that he got third billing in a movie that he was the title character.
Raven_Onasi
So what exactly is your qualm here? My "qualm" is that they actor they got is so dorky and is nothing like the Superman I grew up on. I understand the the comic books and the cartoon I watched were animated, but Christopher Reeve and Dean Cain looked a whole lot better than Brandon Routh. They could have at least CGIed some muscles on him to keep up the buff Superman image. THE REAL SUPERMAN!!! Okay. . . maybe not real. . .but its all I've ever know besides Reeve and Cain but you can kind of get the idea right? For people like me, Brandon Routh is a total let down. Raven_Onasi
I didn't mean any offence with my posting, its just a person preference of mine. I am sorry if I have up set anyone, but I will not support this movie in anyway what so ever!!! Sorry again for any offence.
Jeff
I'll hopefully see this by the end of the week, it looks pretty good. I'm happy with the actor, I think he looks like superman.

I am sorry if I have up set anyone, but I will not support this movie in anyway what so ever!!! Sorry again for any offence. I felt much the same way because I am a big fan of Tom Welling (can't you tell by my avatar?) But I have decided to give it a shot. I think that Christopher Reeve and Brandon Routh are about the same size. It just seems that the different suit tayloring makes Routh look slimmer. None of the actors that have portrayed Superman in the past were particularly muscle-bound. I think Welling is probably the most buff of any of them. You should give it a try....and that is coming from a fellow skeptic!
Raven_Onasi
^^^ Maybe. . . . . we'll see
El Sitherino
I'm fairly certain Brandon Routh could crush a coconut with his ass cheeks. That's power you can't substitute. I still think Christian Bale should have been superman. For he is made of god and win. Plus it'd be awesome when the inevitable Superman-Batman movie comes out. milo
You wreak of fanboy suck. I'm pretty sure Raven's a gal. Anyway, I'll probably go see Superman. The trailer looked pretty sweet, so I hope the movie is too.
Commander Obi-Wan
I'm pretty sure Raven's a gal. Fanboy is a term that is directed to both sexes. Like the phrase, "hey guys!" which directed to both males and females.

Achilles
Just got back from the 11:15 showing. It was good...definitely worth seeing. Bring lots of Suspension of Disbelief and leave your understanding of physics (if any) at the door and you'll be fine. Kudos to Singer for doing an applaudable job of reviving the franchise. Still not the knockdown blockbuster of the Summer that I was hoping for. Things Singer could have done to make the movie better: 1) Richard should have saved Superman, not Lois. First, it seems more consistent with the story he was trying to tell. Second, weightless objects still have mass. Lois would have to be a highly trained, professional rescue worker to pull a 6'4, 225 lbs man from the bottom of "the ocean". 2) Maniacal bad guys shouldn't suddenly and inexplicably become Boy Scouts. Luther bails to the back of the room like the coward he is while experimenting with crystal. Yet the crap hits the fan for real it's "everyone get out of here. Leave everything" like it's Rescue 911 or something. Most of the other minor stuff, I can forgive. @Raven_Onasi: If you're expecting the comic book, then your opinion is completely understandable. Some of us are waiting for the movie (completely different medium) therefore we are comparing it to other Superman movies. Based on the logic of your argument, none of the previous actor who played Superman were up to the task, therefore you hate all the movies and all the actors, not just Brandon Routh. Raven_Onasi
I talked to my brother who lives in Oklahoma. We both were big time superman freaks when he lived at home, and he went and saw it. He told me I should go an see it. THERE FOR I will go and see this Superman movie that I am so agains, because I don't get to talk to my brother very often anymore, and HE said it was good. Again I state that I ment no offence by any of the posting I have posted in this thread. it is my Personal Oppinion

MdKnightR
How does it hold up to Smallville? When I see it, I will let you know. I think I am one of the biggest Smallville fans here at Ahto (and not for the same reasons that teeny-bopper fans of the show watch it). It is one of the most intelligently written tv series of modern times.
Jeff
I saw it last night, and I enjoyed it. It was fairly well done I thought, and had some interesting twists. Compared to some other superhero movies, the action was on the smallish side, but that happens when there's no real enemy for superman to fight besides stopping Lex's science projects. REDJOHNNYMIKE
I might watch it tonight after xmen if it doesn't run into the second showing (that's right, finally watching xmen on it's last day in town:xp: )
Char Ell
Saw the movie and liked it. Like Achilles, I wasn't blown away but it was a solid story with an eyebrow raising plot twist. If Warner Bros. makes a sequel to Superman Returns I will be interested to see how they incorporate Return's revelation. I also liked how the movie included some audio clips from the first Superman movie. How does it hold up to Smallville? IMO evaluating Smallville against Superman Returns is the proverbial apples vs. oranges comparison. A TV show based on Superman's adolescent years should be considerably different than a movie pitched as a sequel to the Superman movies starring Christopher Reeve. Other than the fact that both are based on Superman that is.
mimic666
I can't wait 'til Superman DIES!!!! and then Resurrects if he doesn't in this movie... I woke up to late on wednesday to see it before work and been busy.
