[K1] Head WIP

I've been around here claiming to be a modder, yet I haven't shown any work yet! Shame on me.

 

Anyway I'm usually a modeller, but I find skinning in KotOR a little more enjoyable. The first Caucasian male head has always been my favorite, but it was never quite perfect for me. Originally just for myself, I added a goatee and removed the scar on the light side face. This evening I decided to add dark side transitions in preparation for release.

I still need to work on the eyes for the transitions, as I haven't given them much attention and right now they're a little... bright, to say the least. No, I hadn't planned on giving him "Sith eyes", although depending on my mood I may, since I almost never go dark side myself so I'll never have to see them :p.

 

I'm open to crits and suggestions :).

Seriously, that's a sweet looking skin.. and as you, I rarely play Darkside, but I'm sure the communities would beg and plead for you to add the DS eye transitions . I'll just go ahead and beat them to the punch.. neener neener :xp:

 

I noticed that your current DS eyes are yellow toned, but I'd almost suggest just intensifying your base eye color. The default eyes are amazing and it'd be a shame to ruin them (IMO).. maybe for DS just add more red tones or higher saturation levels to your original eyes to "slightly" distinguish them as poo-poo bad guy/gal eyes?

Yeah, I'm going to redo the eyes. The orangey-hazel color just turned out beautifully, and I'd prefer to play more off of it. See while I was doing this I was just pasting the default textures under my custom layering, so the eyes just kind of... intensified the light orange that the default textures have :p.

 

Anyway I'll finish up the eyes tonight and if Shem isn't too busy putting up all your mods we might see it for download tomorrow ;). I just tested them in-game and they look pretty smashing. In fact the dark side one scares me.

Very nice Inyri. Only problem I have you already mentioned, the DS eyes are way too bright. Even just the LS skin is enough for me to give this mod a permanent spot in my KOTOR override though :) Its the only head I use and you made it look a lot better :thumbs1:

If you put this in the FileFront mailbox, I will get those up at a top priority. I'm sure Chainz would agree with this reasoning. ;)

Wow is right EW. I wish I could have chimed in earlier to suggest Inyri to make it a unique selectable head since so much other effort was put into it. All that would need doing would be to follow my Tut and use mdlops renamer function to rename the texture references and you can have a great looking unique appearance.

I could probably quite easily make it into a new selectable head. I've already been requested to make custom icons for it (which I completely forgot about), so if I do that I'll go ahead and just make it its own head.

You can make it a unique head but I know I for one will be overwriting the original skin with your textures!

Well I will be too, of course, but as they always say, more options = better ;).

 

Speaking of which, I worked on it a bit today. After re-learning how everything works (and frustrating myself quite violently in the process) I eventually figured out how to get the new heads working properly and I went ahead and made up a new one. I realized afterward just how oddly shaped the second caucasian head was, but I'm starting to think this one is indeed an improvement over the first... the beard kind of hides how misshapen his head is :p

You can see a little stretching on the sides - they really weren't watching what they were doing with some of these models. You can even see that stretching on the default texture with the dark-side veinage! I'm surprised they let that kind of sloppy UV mapping get through to release, honestly :/. Tried to hide it as best I could.
