Neverwinter Nights 1 (Yeah. Yeah. I just discovered this game.)

After I coudn't play NWN 2 (because I need a slight upgrade), I descided to buy NWN 1. I managed to obtain a $20 set, which contains the entire saga (Expansions and all.). I have to say that I am impressed. After thinking about how KotOR I turned out, I can understand why BioWare didn't do sequels. These two games are a hard act to follow.

At the moment, I am in the main quad. Something called the Refugee Quarter. My only issue is that it has a slight slowdown (sluggish) to gameplay. But, I am easily taken into the storyarch. It has a Diablo type feeling to it. Pretty impressive.

Any advice on how to get gold fast?

Not really sure about getting gold 'quick' (other than the console.. hehehe) but in pure NWN fashion, you'll soon be swimming in it the further you progress... generally around 5+ levels and you'll be getting better loot.

But anywho, yeah, couldn't agree with you more, definitely hard acts to follow. ;) Me of course being the ultimate fan-boy of said series... I can't get tired of saying how much I still love the game(s). NWN2 is hogging up all of my time now, but don't think I'm not comparing it constantly with it's origin (Bioware still gets the win over Obsidian)...

For other tips and suggestions from fellow AHTO-nuts.. these 2 threads have some good insight and linkage for the originals :D

I didn't realize that they had a console cheat. Does it work the same way as KotOR I does?

Similar to be sure...

It's activated by the trusty "~" key... but instead of the EnableCheats=1 line.. NWN uses

DebugMode=1

It is case sensitive for that particular line, however you don't necessarily have to enter the line in an .ini file. Just use "~" to bring up your cursor then type DebugMode=1, <press Enter>, then your 'cheat'.

It's always wise to retro the command however as you can get some quirks.. by retro meaning "DebugMode=0" after you're done with the cheats. Also, many times it will require something in the game to be selected (ie - your character for stats, inventory, etc., a door or chest for the 'unlock' code, etc.)

Becomes second nature once you get the hang of it though ;)

This list will get you started, but check on the forums as well for entire libraries of codes..

  • 2 weeks later...

Wait 'till you check out the user-made modules at NWVault. I'm in the middle of one that Chainz recommended, called The Lord of Terror. It's great so far. True hack 'n slash heaven. There are tons of these modules available for download. NWN1 is the game that never ends. Enjoy! :)

A question about Bioware: In NWN1 they have you running around after 4 things, most of the time. Go to 4 different places to gather 4 different creatures, go to 4 different places to gather 4 different amulets, go to 4 different places to gather 4 different crystals, etc. In Kotor1 they have; go to 4 different planets and gather 4 different maps. Now this might seem unoriginal on paper, but the way Bioware draws you into the story and how they play out these "gather" quests are very personalised and well pulled off.

Nevertheless my question was about Jade Empire. Do you have to go to 4 different places to gather 4 different things in that game too? Looking forward to its PC release!

Come to think about it I do believe in Jade Empire the Amulet that lets you equip power pearls has 4 pieces you have to collect... I haven't played the game in a very long time now so it could only be three pieces.

I too am awaiting its release on PC. ;)

Hey, I just got this game (Deluxe Edition) and it's awsome! But are there any must have mods for this game? And is there also a mod which replaces the low poly outdated models with better looking ones?

- Ghost Down

Just for convenience, I'll paste my post from a different thread:

Weeeee... gadz I love this game(s).. I've played the entire series for well over 3 years straight, and it's still loaded on my system ;)

There's so many great mods for this game (other than the Official Expansion Sets).. but I'd highly suggest them as well...

Right off the bat though, I'd suggest getting the CEP (Community Expansion Pack). It's not a Mod by itself, but many of the newer (better) mods incorporate it into their hakpaks...

The Hall of Fame list includes some of the best modules you'll find, but sometimes it helps to explore around. ;)

Some of my personal Favorites are:

- The Rogues of Quinn, Series All 3 of them (for Rogue based PC's)

- Sands of Fate 1 - Shadows over Heliopolis, (post HotU modules, high lvl PC's)

- Sands of Fate 2 - Gem Tower, (post HotU modules, high lvl PC's)

- The Lord of Terror - The Diablo Campaign, Diablo Campaign NWN style ;) It's better than the original Blizzard game..hehehe

- Tortured Hearts I, Massive Mod, and very hard but worth it. Don't try this one till you're comfortable with the gameplay ;)

- Tales of Arterra "Series", You should play "The Lost" mod before "The Awakening" :)

Not sure about the body models, since they never really bothered me much after installing the CEP (custom armors can be loaded via hakpaks)... but it wouldn't surprise me if there weren't a few lingering about at the Vault ;)
