Bora Cho was in the mood , looking a bit dazed as the brandy took over his mind . More and more people came , talking , performing a grand show .

On one moment Bora Cho was sure he heard ' milady' , noble talk .

" Not noble's ! I can stand the spoiled rich man" . : he tought .

The boat rocked up and down , it was a soothing sensation .

The a last sip of brandy and Bora Cho saw Bob the pony dancing , the ranger vanished as did the interiour of the boat . A great fire Dragon appeared , it was like a forest blazing , wind howling . Its voice boomed , speaking snake tongue , uttering slow low sounds . Then all went out ... darkness and a sense of death took crept along Bora Cho's spine . A thick fog surround him , ghost and shades appeared , babbeling with sharp voices . Laughter , laughter that split your mind and skull .

" Wham " Everything flashed by and when things flashed back to normal Bora Cho was about to scream , but his voice choked .

He looked ... the boat was there ... Istenguard was polishing his sword , Aya was sleeping next to Bob ...

Bora Cho got up , he went straight to the upper-deck . A fresh sea breeze would clear his mind .

Jonas reeled in his last catch of the day "Woah," Jonas said, commenting on the size of the fish "This will be good trade." Jonas placed his recent catch with the others and headed into the hold. Once in there he pulled out a hammock from his bag and set it up near the corner, where he hoped he wouldn't be in anyones way.

As he rested in his hammock, he could see Aya resting against her pony. While looking at her something floated to his mind I know that woman from somewhere...

As it was approaching the shore again, the boat began to rock a bit more. One particularly large lurch caused Aya to wake from her nap. "Whoa!" Her hand's clutched Bob's mane to steady herself in the wake. "We must be getting near to sh...."

She frowned curiously, noticing that she was covered with a cozy blanket. She gave Bob a suspicious squint. "I know you're an unusual pony, but since when did your tail become dexterous enough to put a blanket on me?"

Bob snorted, as if sniggering a little horsey laugh.

"Nevermind," she said to him. "But thanks. It is a bit chilly and damp down here."

Keeping the blanket around her shoulders, she sat up, resting her back against Bob. Then a salty, 'fishy' scent wafted by her nose--the scent of the sea. She patted the deck, wondering if sea water was leaking into the hold. It was damp, but not wet. Then she sniffed the air, then the blanket, and then looked at Bob, whose eyes flicked between her and Jonas in his hammock.

He looked comfortable, resting in his hammock, but she could tell he wasn't exactly sleeping.

"Jonas?" she whispered. "Is that fish in your bag, or is the boat leaking?"

Aya nodded. Keeping her voice low, she said, "I smell something fishy. Just wondering if the scent is from you, or if the ship's taking on water." She paused, realising that what she had said hadn't come out quite right. "Erm, sorry... I didn't mean to imply that you smell like fish, 'cause you don't," she said quickly. "Just wondering if you had some in your bag or something, or if the boat is leaking."

After vomiting up everything she had in her stomach, and curling up in a corner to try and relax herself, Hoshiko finall felt good enough to get up and start walking tentatively around. Noticing Toa with a small hydra, she staggered over and sat, or fell, depending on your perception of the situation, next to him.

"Cute," she remarked.

A dull thud in the corner where Toa was caught Aya's attention. "Excuse me," she said to Jonas, as she noticed a sickly looking Hoshiko had appeared next to Toa. "I'll be right back."

She grabbed a small leather pouch from her pack, and then teetered her way over towards the two mages. "You okay?" she asked Hoshiko, whose face was looking as pale as her white hair. "I've got some tea here that helps seasickness, or a vial of scent that might... oh!" She took a sudden step back as a small white three-headed hydra near Toa growled at her. Slowly, she bent in a bit closer, curious to know what the creature was. Then the creature growled at her again, and she moved even further back. "Is that thing dangerous?" she asked Toa while keeping her eyes on the tiny teeth the creature's heads were baring. "It looks sort of..." She swallowed hard. "...hungry."

She rummaged in the pouch and pulled out a thick, black strand. "Does it like licorice?" she asked with a nervous grin. She handed the candy quickly to Toa, then reached back in the pouch and gave Hoshiko the tea and the bottled scent. "If you put a few drops of that scent on a cloth and breathe it, it should soothe your stomach. Don't know why it works, but it does."

She backed away slowly, so as not to upset the two-foot tall creature, and went back to sit near Bob. "Guess 'mancers aren't that invincible after all," she whispered to him. "Not if they get seasick like the rest of us."

Toa laughed as Hedri tasted the treat. Its eyes snapped opened and it immeadiatly rushed towards Aya, the look of hunger for more in its eyes.

"Don't worry, he doesn't bite. If you don't have anymore, then tell him no. If you do, I'll have to pay you for your missing stock later." Toa said laughing. He turned his head towards Hoshiko and said "Seasick also, huh? Well, at least I'm not alone."

Then he smiled and said "But it's a fine night by this places standards I suppose. The first time I saw a clear sky was when I left the volcanoes. Course, that was also the first time I saw rain, lakes, forests, and other things along the line of that. What about you? Why did you become a 'macer? I was academically trained with my master, and just graduated last year."

Aya's eyes widened as the creature rushed forward, it's tiny mouths gaping like a baby bird's in anticipation of more licorice. Aya reached in her pouch and grabbed some more strands, dangling them gingerly by her fingertips as she didn't want the creature to mistake her fingers as a tasty treat as well.

Bob rose and shook his head. He wasn't too sure of this 'small annoyance' at his feet, and his ears flattened to show his displeasure.

"Easy, Bob," Aya cautioned him. "It's too small to hurt you. And, it's kind of cute."

Nevertheless, Bob whinnied and stamped his foot down hard, warning the hydra to keep its distance from him.

Fearing for the creature's safety lest Bob decided to ignore her, Aya gave it one last piece of black licorice then showed it her empty flat hand. "Okay, all gone," she said in a voice reserved for small children and puppies, and then she gave it a lopsided grin. "No more. See?"

The little Hydra got the picture and let out squeaky sigh of disappointment. Then it sniffed the air and its head snapped to where a rat was sneaking across the deck. It immediately scampered after the rat, catching it with its three heads, and ending its life with a quick bite to the neck. It then went to the railing and tossed the body overboard, going back to Aya and putting on the innocent angelic look, eyes large and teeth tucked in, as if wanting some else now.

Aya grimaced seeing the hydra easily kill the rat with one bite, then discard it. The little creature soon returned and she stood there dumbfounded as the hyrda eyed her over, apparently begging for another treat. Or perhaps, a finger. Oh, boy, she thought. Out of licorice, and it still looks hungry. Cute, but hungry. And those teeth must have been sharp to dispatch that rat so quickly.

"Erm... all gone," she said nervously, wondering if the hydra would decide to taste her, or foolishly, Bob.

Bob stamped his foot again. He wasn't about to become a snack for anything.

"Shoo, now," Aya said gently. "Erm... Toa?" She nodded at the creature, but wasn't sure if Toa had heard her. "Anyone?" she added in a small unsure voice.

"Come on Hedri, she doesn't have anything else for you." Toa called out. The little Hydra let out a squeaky sign and began to walk away, but not before giving her the look that said 'I'll be back'. He then went and leaped into Toa's pack, moving around a bit before finally going to sleep again.

Kyo pressed his lips together in a thin, straight line. "Perhaps you're right, Ranger." Kyo answered Carwyn. This would require some thinking. "Perhaps you're right..."

Feeling the boat lurch a bit more erradically, Kyo poked his head out of the canvas flap to glance at the square hole in the deck a few feet away that was usually used to load boxed and barreled supplies into the lower deck area. The light that filtered down was a dark blue.

Twilight.

He excused himself from Carwyn's conversation and slipped the wood and knife back inside his pack, slung the pack over his shoulder and hopping down from the wagon. He took the steps two at a time in his hasty ascent to top deck.

And indeed it was twilight. The sun was just setting in the west, the heaving waves stained with purple. The air was cool and briny, and as he turned his attentions eastward, Kyo felt excitement leap in his heart. The lights of Ryuu-Tokai were far closer than he expected.

An order was given to strike the sails, and the ship rolled gently on the swell as it came to dock at a jetty. Ropes were cast, the ferry tied down, and the gangplank lowered on both of the two levels of the ship. They had arrived.

Carwyn watched the little scene unfold from his perch in the wagon. He smiled as he watched Aya help Hoshiko out with her seasickness, then interact with Toa's little hydra. She got a bit flustered, which was to be expected, since it always seemed to happen whenever she helped someone out with something.

He chuckled. "Have a good nap, Aya?"

Carwyn looked at his hands again. He clenched them, then peeked inside the right glove to look at his palm. Grimacing, he looked at Aya again. "I think my palms are getting better, but they're still a little sore. Salve's working wonders, though." He wrinkled his nose. "Still smells to high heavens."

Aya was still smiling and seemed about to say something in reply when the ship lurched gently, as if bumping into something. There were orders shouted above deck and people started milling towards the exit.

Carwyn grinned. "I think we've just docked."

Aya breathed a sigh of relief. "Great!" She turned to Bob, and said, "You hear that? We can get out of here now and get some fresh air and solid ground."

Bob whinnied in reply and tossed his head, obviously smelling the fresh air from the open gangplank.

Aya made sure his pack was secure, then took up his lead and began to lead him towards the gangplank.

"So," she said casually to Carwyn, "you still interested in getting a room with me at the Smoking Dragon?" She cleared her throat. "Erm... I mean, your own room, of course. Not sharing mine." She sighed dejectedly. "Why does stuff always seem to come out wrong when I'm talking to you?"

Carwyn laughed. "I don't know, Aya," he said as he readied his things. "I wonder if you've ever heard of one of those old philosophers...something Frood, I think his name was, probably mispronouncing it." Seeing Aya's confused face, he continued, "Anyway, he had this theory..."

Before Carwyn could elaborate anymore, a sailor appeared at the door and yelled, "C'mon people, we don't have all day! We've got to get unloaded here, we're on a schedule! Move along!" The mass of people heeded his words and pushed forward, jostling everyone into each other. Bob was pushed from behind and nudged Aya softly with his nose, propelling her forward. She would have stumbled nastily if it hadn't been for Carwyn's hand shooting out and steadying her arm.

"Careful," the ranger said, his voice still cheerful. "Let's get off this boat in one piece, first."

Aya was grateful for the ranger's quick reactions to keep her on her feet. "Thanks," she said. "Guess I still haven't got sea legs yet." She allowed him to hold on to her all the way down the gangplank, but once on the dock (which was solid enough 'ground' for her even though it was only wood planks over the water), she gently released herself from his grip.

"I'm going to take Bob over to the trough for a well-deserved drink," she said to Carwyn. "Will you wait here for Kyo? He wanted me to give him some directions to someplace. Then we can all go to the Smoking Dragon together."

She started off, then paused and looked over her shoulder. "Suppose we should wait for Takara and her son as well?" she asked Carwyn. "I don't want them to be on their own."
