Q Posted January 7, 2007 Posted January 7, 2007 I've noticed that when you enter the Dresdae colony on Korriban you can hear what is apparently a Rodian crying out in pain for some reason, followed by what sounds like some sort of Force power being used, but you never see anything. Has anyone else noticed this? If so, do you have any clue as to what's going on?
SykoRevan Posted January 7, 2007 Posted January 7, 2007 It's kinda like a glitch. When you meet the student who is picking a fight with the Rodian and the Twi'lek, he uses Drain Life on the Rodian. For some reason, the game replays the sound of Drain Life and the Rodian's death when you re-enter the area. In order to rationalize it, I like to think that somewhere in the Sith colony, someone is torturing a Rodian just as a Sith would. I'm not promoting Rodian torture of course
Q Posted January 7, 2007 Author Posted January 7, 2007 I figured it was a "leftover" from that particular scene, but I wanted to be sure that I wasn't missing anything.
MrVorlon Posted January 9, 2007 Posted January 9, 2007 I advocate the "Torture the Rodian" scenario, and wish there was a "Torture the Selkath" movie.
JediMaster12 Posted January 10, 2007 Posted January 10, 2007 It is just a glitch. Still even hearing it bothers my senses. I don't like to see people in pain or suffering. I couldn't even stand the torture scene on the Leviathan. But I don't have a problem with watching autopsy. I don't advocate torture. Torture comes from the Latin term cruciare meaning torture. Hence we get crucifix. Like a chalkboard being scratched with nails.
Darth InSidious Posted January 10, 2007 Posted January 10, 2007 ^We also get 'excruciating' from that root, too, unless I'm mistaken... Yes, it's a glitch. To rationalise, perhaps it's happening behind the non-usable door, and the person is feeding the sound through a speaker in the wall near the entrance?
JediMaster12 Posted January 10, 2007 Posted January 10, 2007 Now that is blatant cruelty. Then again you are a Sith lord
Ctrl Alt Del Posted January 11, 2007 Posted January 11, 2007 ^We also get 'excruciating' from that root, too, unless I'm mistaken... Yes, it's a glitch. Then the bug isnt the sound... is the speaker that's nowhere to be seen!
Emperor Devon Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 I thought it was rather fitting, myself. In a Sith-controlled colony, hearing random people die wouldn't be too uncommon. I thought it added some extra realism.
Totenkopf Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 The first time I heard it I figured it was a glitch as well. But considering what you encounter on your arrival (Sharadan and his 3 victims), it wouldn't be unreasonable to think of it as a kind of ambiance enhancement, setting the tone for Korriban. Kind of like a glitch w/benefits, or a gift that just keeps on giving.
JediMaster12 Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 It is also a gift that is disturbing. Now you can see I wouldn't make a very good Sith Lord. I don't have it in me.
Totenkopf Posted January 14, 2007 Posted January 14, 2007 Well, in real life, I don't think I'd be a big enough SOB to be a Sith Lord type, but games are a different thing altogether.
HerbieZ Posted January 17, 2007 Posted January 17, 2007 Maybe someone can make a mod where there is a room on korriban with a rodian being tortured... Remember it was my idea
JediMaster12 Posted January 17, 2007 Posted January 17, 2007 You should make a request in the Mod forum Herbie. Then they would jump on the challenge. You must have liked seeing that Rodian tortured that you want to see it again.
HerbieZ Posted January 17, 2007 Posted January 17, 2007 Request is in the modding requests section now.
JediMaster12 Posted January 17, 2007 Posted January 17, 2007 ONLY ONE rodian?!?, pah....no ambition. I have no desire to see anything tortured. I walked into the torture chamber and hated the noise.
innocent Posted January 18, 2007 Posted January 18, 2007 Um... it*is* just a game. No need to be overly disturbed. Although I suppose it also says something about the designer's skills that it affected you so much.
dewayne26 Posted January 18, 2007 Posted January 18, 2007 lol i wish i could torture some talking carpets or insane fishies:P
Totenkopf Posted January 18, 2007 Posted January 18, 2007 Perhaps Herbie can amend his mod request to include more than just rodians.

Although I suppose it also says something about the designer's skills that it affected you so much. Generally I can't stand to see anything suffer. The strange thing is that I have a fascination with autopsy. Mostly as you say it had to do with the way the devs put together the voice overs. Certain sounds I recognize as torture or a cry for help and it hurts. Not to point that I burst into tears or anything but it paints a stark reminder of how cruel we are to each other.
Sinapus Posted January 28, 2007 Posted January 28, 2007 It's some sort of audio glitch. Similarly, in KOTOR2, you can hear Hanharr growling followed by Kath hound barks in Vogga's throne room. It's a leftover from a cutscene that plays earlier in the game, I guess.
