JoeDoe 2.0
After finishing the game over 5 times now, I've finally decided to play another character and I'm an Engineer now and its quite fun to blast opponents using Over load and Sabotage, but sadly, I'm rather weak with weapons
milo
Argh! Will somebody pleeeeaaase tell me if there are any convo choices that don't lead to either you or Ashley killing Wrex on Virimire? He's my favorite alien. edit: nvm, i just put some points into charm and worked it all out. :
Corinthian
Alternatively, you can just do his sidequest.
mur'phon
Just completed my first playtrough, and I'm willing to bet that this is the best game I'll play this year. Particularly like the way combat works. My bigest grievance with most rpgs is the pause, give order, see your characters perform it way combat is handeled. Only a minor thing anoyed me, the paragon/renegade thingy. Acording to the game a paragon is one who helps people and do the "right thing" without wanting anything in return. The problem is, when you help someone, you are considered a paragon no matter your motives. For example, I roleplayed as myself and helped practically everyone nicely-like, and tried to resolve conflicts peacefully. I didn't do it because I wanted to help, rather I did it because I expected to get more in return than I otherwise would have got (as for solving conflicts, I don't like people shooting me). Not neccesarly items/credits, future assistance, information etc. So when the game ended, I was a paragon who had acted mostly in his own interest. It didn't feel right. Corinthian
That's not the point of the Paragon/Renegade system. Paragon represents doing things "By the Book" and generally acting like an ideal military officer, while the Renegade does things his way.

Ctrl Alt Del
Sorry for the Bump, but someone has to bring this to light: Finally, Downloadable Content: Bring Down the Sky downloadable content pack releases to Xbox LIVE Marketplace on Monday, March 10 at 2 a.m. PST, for 400 MS points. This is the first in a series of planned downloadable content for Mass Effect on Xbox Live. It seems this will add a new race (The Batarians). Yeah, the ones you could just hear about. And a new planet. It will add more 90 minutes of gaming, and 50 Achievement points. This new quest plot is about a batarian extremist group that stole a movable Space Station on the Asgard System, and now plan on hammering it at a Human Colony. Cygnus Q'ol
Now that everyone's been to the Kepler Verge and back a few hundred times and we are all accomplished Spectres, I must ask this: During the beginning and endgame levels, it really didn't matter that much. But, during the 'Meat' of the game, What was your level-up philosophy? Were you one who build his/her weapons skills right away or were you a defensive minded agent? ...or was there some type of balance to your method? Since it's basically a shooter, I usually pick a weapon and master it before trying to master all at once. (late in the game it's almost like you have no choice but to level-up all weapons.) But, I mean while you're still striving to accomplish your immediate goals. I usually keep the Charm and Spectre levels filled and try to keep my armor up too. Was this the best game of the year? But, during the 'Meat' of the game, What was your level-up philosophy? Were you one who build his/her weapons skills right away or were you a defensive minded agent? ...or was there some type of balance to your method?
It really depends of my Military Specialization as to how I handle level up. First like you, I always keep Charm and Spectre levels filled, but I also try to keep the Specialization Talent filled. Early in the game, I try gain access to certain unlockable talents as quickly as possible. Like as a Soldier I want to unlock Fitness as quickly as possible so I add a least on point ever time I level up. As an engineer, I do not do this as I first try to level up Decryption and Electronics, hate to find something then not be able to benefit from that find. As an Adept I don’t really care about weapons, I concentrate on leveling up Throw and Warp so that I can unlock Lift and Singularity. Once I get I few point in either of them I level my bonus talent Shotgun up until I get the first level of Carnage. Since it's basically a shooter' date=' I usually pick a weapon and master it before trying to master all at once. (late in the game it's almost like you have no choice [i']but to level-up all weapons.) But, I mean while you're still striving to accomplish your immediate goals.
My first playthrough I went mainly for mastering weapons and Spectre training. Since not leveling up Charm can cause problems later in the game, I now make that a priority skill to fill. Anything that adds health is as a priority, especially on hardcore and insane. I mainly do a balance attack other than key skills. However, if Sniper Rifle is my main weapon it get priority over everything else. Sniper Rifle is slowly becoming my favorite weapon is Mass Effect, never thought it would replace the shotgun. Was this the best game of the year?Best game of the year? No. Best game of my lifetime' date=' Yes! I played better stories, better dialog, and I’ve played games with better controls, but overall this is my favorite game of all time. Hope that changes when Mass Effect II and III come out (and wishfully thinking - KOTOR III)
Ctrl Alt Del
Were you one who build his/her weapons skills right away or were you a defensive minded agent? A mix of it. I always liked my top weapons (Sniper and assault rifles mostly) as trained as they could be. But I never really bothered with feats like Fitness and the such. After all, I'm always on the cover, sending my tank characters (AKA Ashley) whenever I needed to kick a rushing Krogan's butt. I usually keep the Charm and Spectre levels filled and try to keep my armor up too. I'm with you: Never neglecting Charm and Intimidate Skills, as well as my Spectre training. Sniper Rifle is slowly becoming my favorite weapon is Mass Effect, never thought it would replace the shotgun. Which is kinda funny. I never liked the Shotgun much, always preferring the sniper. My only complaint is that it's completely useless unless you've got training with it. It would be much better if you could aim without training, but your Shepard should shake as if he had Parkinson. Was this the best game of the year? Could have been, but I have named my motives many times already to do so again. It's still an enjoyable game. I only hope next games can fix that. Cygnus Q'ol
Definately game of the Year in my book, although there were others I spent alot of time with. I spaced out my playthoroughs of Mass Effect to keep it fresh. Is it me or does it seem like you acquire more and acquire better equipment right away when you go Renegade? It always seems like I prosper better with a gun to someone's head. What are some of the things you'd like to see in MassEffect2? What changes would you make (if any)? I could use a bit more variation on bunkers and ships when you take them. There was a hint of repetitiveness there. It would be cool to have a bit more of a reaction from others to your character's disposition as well. If you're an accomplished badass, then others should react accordingly. I wouldn't mind an expansion of weapon type either. Perhaps some rockets or grenade launchers. Sonic or laser type weapons could add to it as well. It's also funny to hear the same voice no matter what character I build. This is an awesome game, no complaints here, but there's always the next level to look forward to. How do you envision it? Corinthian
Okay, things I want in Mass Effect II: 1: Grenades. Not the disks. GRENADES. 2: Variation in Characters. I'd like to be able to get more, but not all necessarily on the same playthrough. Maybe some Renegade or Paragon only characters. - also, I wouldn't mind being able to shove Kaidan out of an airlock. 3: When I go to the Sol System, actually let me land on Earth. 4: Destructible environments would make it more interesting. 5: More explosives. Rocket Launchers, C4 (Or some future equivalent), what have you. 6: Make the side-quests be a little less repetitive. I got tired of exploring planets after it was just the same bloody thing over and over again. It's not like I needed the credits after I had all the pieces of SPECTRE Gear. 7: It never really made sense why I was leaving everyone in the team except for Wrex and Garrus on the Normandy. I'm not saying I want to haul all of them along, but being able to dispatch them to do other stuff would make a lot more sense. Other than those fairly minor things, I'd say all they need to do is continue the story and do it as well as before.
Ctrl Alt Del
It's also funny to hear the same voice no matter what character I build. I always thought that the voice actors did an amazing job. No matter what kind of character I created, the voice always seemed to match. 6: Make the side-quests be a little less repetitive. I got tired of exploring planets after it was just the same bloody thing over and over again. It's not like I needed the credits after I had all the pieces of SPECTRE Gear. QFE. Please. I'd also demand on a sequel, less colonies and more established cities. It's cool and stuff, but the desolate environment gets old soon. I think the Terminus Systems are the perfect next stage. I'd like to meet the Hutts of the Mass Effect universe.
mimartin
I spaced out my playthoroughs of Mass Effect to keep it fresh.
Not me, other than a short tour of the Province of Cyrodiil and a very brief look at Assassin’s Creed I’ve played nothing on the Xbox 360 but Mass Effect since it came out. Is it me or does it seem like you acquire more and acquire better equipment right away when you go Renegade?
Wouldn’t know, I haven’t been able to master the Renegade approach yet. I wasn’t able to do the full-fledged Darkside in TSL either (I may have gotten Hanharr as a party member once). The highest Renegade score I’ve gotten so far is 50%, I’m about ready to try the cheat. What are some of the things you'd like to see in MassEffect2? What changes would you make (if any)?
I’m pretty happy with the game. I would like at little more conversations with party members. Although I’ve seen a lot of people grip that there was too much dialogue. I could use a bit more variation on bunkers and ships when you take them. There was a hint of repetitiveness there.
Well that is an extremely nice way to say it. I agree although it does make logical sense to me that all the bunkers and ships would be of similar design since they all seem to be prefabricated buildings and cargo ships. It would be cool to have a bit more of a reaction from others to your character's disposition as well. If you're an accomplished badass' date=' then others should react accordingly.[/Quote'] That and some of the dialogue for the PC seem out of place for your characters disposition. Sometime a full Paragon PC had some very smart-alecky comments. I wouldn't mind an expansion of weapon type either. Perhaps some rockets or grenade launchers. Sonic or laser type weapons could add to it as well.
I really liked the weapons, but I wondered why weapon technology has not advanced a lot further in the future. Besides not having to load the weapons, a shotgun is still just a shotgun if you subtract Carnage. Heck the weapon have even regressed in that you can only fire a few shots without it over heating. I’d really like some more quest like the “I Remember Me” quest. If you have not played as a Colonist, you have to just for that quest. Warning it is a difficult one to get Renegade points on if you have a soft heart. It's also funny to hear the same voice no matter what character I build.
Did not have a real problem with this until I played as a Samuel L Jackson look-alike. The voices are great and IMO the female Shepard is the better voice, but neither sound perfectly right for some ethnic backgrounds. This is an awesome game' date=' no complaints here, but there's always the next level to look forward to. How do you envision it?[/quote']I see Mass Effect 2 being very similar in game play. I hope they get the party member commands system perfected. I see no major difference in party member you’ll receive if you are Paragon or Renegade due to the need to be consistent for the third installment. For Mass Effect 3 I believe all bets are off and we may truly see a revolutionary game. Then they will not have to worry about the continuation of future installments. 3: When I go to the Sol System, actually let me land on Earth.
But where on earth would you want to land? I understand, but I could care less about exploring earth, if I want to do that I will leave the computer or Xbox 360 behind and go outside. I always wanted to see the earth from the moon. Not that Mass Effect could satisfy that dream, but it is the closest I’ll ever come to living out that dream. I just need to figure out where the Mako’s shells hit when I shot the earth from the moon. 7: It never really made sense why I was leaving everyone in the team except for Wrex and Garrus on the Normandy.
What do you mean? Tali and Liara are the ones always leaving the Normandy with my Commander Shepard. Other than those fairly minor things, I'd say all they need to do is continue the story and do it as well as before.I completely and wholeheartedly agree with Corinthian, now the world can end. I'd also demand on a sequel, less colonies and more established cities. It's cool and stuff, but the desolate environment gets old soon.
We can hope. Corinthian
Well, I took Wrex and Garrus, Mimartin, because they actually can shoot and have some survivability unlike Talia and Liara. Besides, I should make you taste Biotics for the mere suggestion that you should leave the noble Urdnot Wrex behind. He's the best character in the game! mimartin
So how many of you have got all the achievements so far? 41 of 45, still have not gotten Damping, AI Hacking, Neural Shock or Renegade. I should be close on Damping and AI Hacking, Neural Shock and Renegade is another matter all together. Well, I took Wrex and Garrus, Mimartin, because they actually can shoot and have some survivability unlike Talia and Liara. Besides, I should make you taste Biotics for the mere suggestion that you should leave the noble Urdnot Wrex behind. He's the best character in the game!Talia and Liara kick butt, but you have a point my favorite playthrough has been with Talia and Wrex. Wrex has most of the funny comments and Talia has the skills. I’ve used them all, but I have the easiest time with Talia and Liara no matter my class, that and I love to have three women kicking the rest of the galaxy in the butt. Cygnus Q'ol
Wrex - Master Throw - Krogan Heavy Armor - Master Assault Rifle Ashley - ScorpionIV(heavy) - Master Assault Rifle - Max Fitness Cygnus Sheppard - ScorpionIV(Heavy) - Master Shottie - Max Spectre/Charm - High Soldier/Vanguard Garrus is no punk either. We roll in, handle business, off to the next. Anyone gets in the way, I unleash Wrex. I wouldn't mind being free to take only one squad mate or jump in alone like KotOR. Sometimes, not often, they cross my line of fire. I still would like to explore a larger selection of planets and terrains. I wouldn't mind seeing places with more indigenous life. Isn't there any water anywhere in this galaxy? The next MassEffect needs a larger metropolic setting. Don't get me wrong, the Citadel was absolutely awesome. But, now I hunger for more. Oh yeah, there can never be enough conversation. I could use more conversational interaction across the board.
