Indie Rock

So who here loves indie rock? (I say indie rock specifically, because I don't care too much for the indie hip hop scene)

What bands, songs, and albums do you like?

I OBSESS OVER:

Bright Eyes

I LOVE:

Sufjan Stevens

and I REALLY LIKE:

Death Cab For Cutie

Any of ya'll like any of them?

I have 5 of Sufjan's albums, 7 Bright Eyes albums (and 5 EPs too), and 2 Death Cab albums.

As of recently, I've been obsessing over these two albums... (well, one is technically an EP)

Neutral Milk Hotel - In the Aeroplane Over the Sea. It's alternative rock and folk mixed together in an epic fashion. I would consider it an amalgamation of Neil Young and The Beatles but still ending up as something entirely different.

Several of my favorite bands are indie. In particular, Black Lab and Collective Soul (since they ditched the record companies and made their own label, El Music Group). I like a few Sufjan Stevens songs, although the style of music like him (Death Cab, etc) I generally don't enjoy.

I haven't heard much of Death Cab for Cutie, but The Postal Service is one of my most favorite bands, so I might check it out further.

Indeed, they are pretty good. Their latest CD, Plans, is more Postal Servicey, but still retains the Death Cab sound...but their older stuff is really good too.

So, for those of you that like Sufjan, here's a question:

Do you like his more stripped down music (To Be Alone With You, John Wayne Gacy Jr., Year of the Dog [sorta], etc...)

or

His more instrumental music? (Chicago, They Are Night Zombies!! [i'm not gonna type the whole title], Dear Mr. Supercomputer, etc...)

I like both, but lately, I've been into the more stripped down acoustic stuff.

I haven't heard much Postal Service or Death Cab, but everything that I've heard from both of them I really enjoyed. I should probably get their CDs.

As as for Sufjan, I've only heard one of his songs (don't remember which, it was on a friend's ipod), but I really liked his style.

I think the Decemberists are more indie pop or maybe folkish but yes. Hells yes.

If you haven't listened to their Crane Wife cd yet, please do so. Now. Go. Do it.

Do it.

I loved Crane Wife 3 for a week, but then it lost it's magic for me. Still a good song, and I like Yankee Bayonet and Perfect Crime off the album.

Oh, and this is stretching it for Indie Rock, but I'll put in Sonic Youth. Daydream Nation is one of the best albums to come out of the 80's; listen only to Teenage Riot to realize it blows most contemporary indie bands out of the water.
