Negative Sun
lolz Is this really the best they can come up with for the holiday season? The current lineup of games for the PS3 is weak (to use an understatement) as it is, so what do they do? Go figure...
Boba Rhett
Sony's just a non-stop laugh factory. How can anyone possibly defend them without feeling ever so slightly embarrassed?

Yep, they're shooting themselves in the foot and digging their own graves at the same time... Anyone who buys that deserves for their PS3 to eat them alive. Ctrl Alt Del
Some people might even consider buying it, since it's way cheaper... But again, eliminating retro compatibility with the most successful videogame on history...
Web Rider
Some people might even consider buying it, since it's way cheaper... But again, eliminating retro compatibility with the most successful videogame on history... how is it "way cheaper"? It's 564 USD (399 euros), I can get a PS3 on Amazon for 499USD. Which after tax is about the same price, and that's the 60 gig, backwards compatible version.
Mr Roboto
I don't think that's really an issue. A ton of companies offer different "grades" of their product. Usually along the lines of top-o-the line, mid-range and budgets versions. With the rumors of the 160GB version and all its added bells and whistles being the high-end, the 80GB version being the mid-range and now the 40GB version being the low-end. It's just another option for the consumer. On a side note, I still laugh at anyone that pays for their PS3 at all.

SykoRevan
As for Sony continually digging it's own grave, I knew this would happen. Before, Sony had the market in it's pocket with the PS2, and Nintendo's Gamecube was pretty much the worst console, with no online capabilities, horrible third-party lineup, and way too many first-party games featuring Mario (they still don't stop with the Mario games though, even with the Wii). Now, Sony and Nintendo have switched places, with the Wii being loved (for reasons I do not know, since I'm a controller traditionalist), and the PS3 literally . This post was brought to you by SykoRevan and the Xbox 360, the best next-gen console to date.

Corinthian
It's Sony. What do you expect? I still don't understand why anyone would buy those. I think they've got one game that anyone plays? Resistance: Fall of Man? Plus twenty other crap titles that are about comparable to Jet Set Radio Future.

Sabretooth
Sony is the finest modern example of a company parodying itself. I'm going to buy that PS3 just for the laughs.
HerbieZ
Nintendo's Gamecube was pretty much the worst console, with no online capabilities, horrible third-party lineup, and way too many first-party games featuring Mario. It had a few good games but i absolutely detest Mario so it kinda pissed me off after about a year and Super Paper Hyper Mario Racing was YET AGAIN released for the gamecube. They're Nintendo, how can they not do Mario games? Although I do see your point, what with Super Paper Mario, Mario Football, Baseball and Basketball and probably a few others to add to the list. I was beginning to worry. lmao, my monitor almost got drenched in coke there... I'd take a premium PS3 if someone gave it to me though, but I've got way too many PS2 games I love, I couldn't do without backwards compatibility. lukeiamyourdad
What's really sad is how Sony has potentially great games in their future line-up. Think about Metal Gear and the new Final Fantasy. Unfortunately, it might be too late. It's sad really. Two games that were thought to help the PS3, Lair and Heavenly Sword, were not as successful as first predicted. Probably because of the lack of PS3's on the market as well as one the games sucking really badly and the other being 6 hours long with close to no replayability. Great investment. Then again, I never understood fanboyism in the console war. If Microsoft wins, do you get money for it or something? Do you own shares of Sony? I always felt it was ever so ridiculous for people to crap over each other for...nothing.
Web Rider
Could you not use your PS2 for those PS2 games? PS2's eventually break down, my first one did, took it a long time and alot of use, rumor also says it was designed to do that. In any case, at some point you will be out of a PS2, and your PS3 will likly still be working. Also, you may sell your PS2 to afford a PS3. lukeiamyourdad
As a matter of fact, you could always be a PS3 buyer who never owned a PS2 for whatever reason and now wants to have access to a larger library of games. Where would you get those games? Friends, families as well as used games dealers.
