Photoshop problem

Hi guys please help me. I am testing out my new texture skill but I have an image that has a white bakground. Using the wand tool - how do I get rid of the bakground? Please post some help ASAP

Thanks

Okay, for Photoshop's Magic Wand tool to remove a background...

First, open up the texture you are using.

Second, create a new Layer.

You should now have "Layer 1" right above "Layer 0."

Third, move Layer 1 Below Layer 0(your Texture)

Fourth, click on your Texture's Layer and use the Magic Wand to select the White areas. Holding "Alt" will remove a selection, while holding "Shift" will allow you to add.

Hit "Delete"

Done.

That should work.

JPEG images don't support transparency. Convert it to PNG or GIF format.

I selected most of the white with the magic wand, right clicked it and cut it to a different layer then deleted the layer. Then I went through with the eraser tool and cleaned it up a bit.

To do a nice quick cut on the end go to Layer=>Matting=>Defringe

Set it to 1pixel, like that you shouldn't mess around with the Eraser tool.

Plus you could have used the Pentool aswell to create a path and then make this into a selection.

Thank you very much. Thanks to all the others who posted too! Oh and for the future, CTRL, I have CS3

Defringing leaves some gray patches that are a pain in the ass to select. And I hate the pen tool - I'd rather just point and click.

Also I cleaned it up a bit. God I wish I had something better to do ;_;

True, the Pentool takes a while to get used to.

But I had a nice excercise in school=> Now cut out these 100 shirts and pants pictures for a catalogue. Using the Pentool to Detoureren as we call it.

After that I actually love my Pentool now.

And a another method would have been to use Layer masks.

OR just the just the Quick mask to alter the selection somewhat.

Here are a couple different ways you could do this with Photoshop:

1) with the logo on its own layer (Layer 0), right click on the layer and select "Blending Options". Near the bottom it says "Blend If", select "Gray", and move the slider for "This Layer" to 254 or lower.

2a) Select the logo (Control +A) then copy (Control +C). Go to "Layers" pull down, click on "Layer Mask" -> "Reveal All".

b) Then on the layer mask, paste the logo (Control +V). Go to "Image" pull down, "Adjustments" -> "Invert".

c) Now on the main image layer, wherever you paint, only the White areas of the Mask will actually show.

3) If you try to use the magic wand, you'd get a bit of grey haze around the edge (because of the anti-aliasing). To stop this, a good way to sharpen the edges is to go to the "Image" pull down, select "Adjustments" -> "Threshold". Set the amount to 128, and now the edges are nice and sharp to use the magic wand. Here is a closeup:

That's the great thing about Photoshop, there are many ways to get to the result you want.
