So, I had way too much time on my hands--and way, way, way, way, WAY too much fun with the Guild Wars character creation feature. The trouble is, I can't decide who should be my main. I give up--whoever is prettiest wins!

I'll let you guys decide...hope you laugh your head off at this video! :) It's set to Rihanna's "Shut Up and Drive"...

@Tysyacha..... you realise what youve just done is a modern day equivalent of playing with Barbie dolls... lets just hope you're a sub 14 yo girl....
Let's hope you were joking. :)

Ty, picking your main based on looks might not be the most rational idea. Pick the class you think you'll enjoy playing the most. :p

Elementalists can be a lot of fun if you enjoy spell classes, but keep in mind that they're squishy and if Jae is monking for you you'll die at least 10 times each quest (<3 Jae -- I'm not bitter! :p). Rangers are good ranged characters and have nice elemental defenses, and warriors naturally are meant for bashing people on the head which is always enjoyable!

Astro, you're being mean to Tysy!! Like you've never messed around with character creation screens at the beginning of the game? Come on.

I'd agree with going with the class first rather than looks. You've got 4 slots after all--you can have all 3. :D

If you think you'll enjoy pure fighting, go with the warrior. If you really like archery and might like a pet companion, go with ranger. If you like playing a spell-caster type, go with the ele for sure. If you hate dying, the ranger might be your best bet--the warrior gets hit a lot doing melee combat, and the ele is the most fragile armor-wise of the 3.

Look me up online too! :)

@ Inyri--I'll have you know I kept a party of 8 going as the only healer monk mowing through a group of about 300 corsairs in Lahtenda bog in under 15 minutes (because Draco had a berserker scroll up and kept urging us on), and I don't think we lost one person.

While looks and style is important in a game like this it can vary quite a bit depending on what armor you get later in the game, so I wouldn't decide too much from what's seen at the character creation screen. So it would depend more on what you like to play. My (somewhat jaded) impression of the classes from a player's perspective: :)

Elementalist

You get to, theoretically, deal massive amounts of damage to groups of enemies. At least on the rare occasion when the enemies can't simply walk out of the blast radius of your spells after a second. Still, it's highly satisfying when it does work and your screen lights up with damage indicators. But you're so squishy you're essentially dead if you let the enemies get close to you or get caught by ranged attacks. Unless you use a bunch of defensive skills, then you're only dead if enemies have enchantment stripping skills (which roughly 75% of the enemy groups tend to have). You also get to watch in frustration as your big, costly 143 damage spell only does 37 damage to the well armored warrior hacking away at you. :)

Warrior

On the same note there is something strangely satisfying when you only take 32 damage from those big nasty area of effect spells that would hit your squishy casters for 100 damage. On the downside too many sources deal armor ignoring damage, and as a frontliner you'll find yourself perpetually blinded, weakened and hexed. You also won't deal a terrible amount of damage against well armored enemies who are higher level than you (which is most of them after you get past the first 1/4 of the game), giving you more the feeling of being a speed bump for the enemies than a hero. :p

Ranger

You have decent armor and since you (usually) would use ranged attacks you can stay back and snipe from longbow range, so you won't risk dying as much, and you're usually among the last to die if the odds get overwhelming. With the Barrage and Splinter weapon skills you can deal lots of damage to tightly packed groups of enemies. But (and there's always a "but") you can hardly deal enough damage to kill anything in a 1 on 1 shootout against a single enemy with that setup. And as the highly skilled marksman you are, you are utterly incapable of hitting anything that is moving. :p

Well, Olias died, and I got down to 65 health so it was a pretty close call. But admittedly you and the rest of the team had run off in advance when we got ambushed, so it was just me and Olias against a group of 8 corsairs who roped down in front of us. :) (Avatar of Dwayna saved my behind there. Lots of healing. :))

I didn't count that part--that was after the craziness of Draco's scroll adventure. Mr. Survivor, who I was trying to protect, and the rest of us got far enough ahead that the corsairs and you weren't even on the radar, and Olias loses health all the time. I didn't realize there was a problem until I tried to put healing breeze on him so he wouldn't 'blood of the master himself to death' as you've put it, and the healing spell wouldn't take because you were so far back. Then I tried to run back, but I couldn't get there fast enough. Hey, I almost lost a gold scythe in that run because I didn't have time to do anything else but heal you all. :D It's also much easier to keep everyone alive at level 17 than level 7--you don't run out of energy after casting 2 spells. 3 spells, maybe, but not 2.

Well, speaking of which, the character creation feature of SW galaxies is superb. Unfortunately you can't run the thing without trying to connect a server. Wish there is some hack where you can just play with that without connection to the internet.
