Gargoyle King
Well, what did you all think of them? I thought they were really artistic and extremely well co-ordinated, the Chinese have excelled themselves. Apparently Zhang Yimou, a really prominent Chinese director (for all you Mainstream Western filmheads he directed House Of Flying Daggers and Hero, film aficinados should already know who he is ) was chose to co-rodinate the opening ceremony of the Beijing 'O8 Olympics, alongside the renowned choreographer Zhang Jigang. This is especially an interesting fact, as Yimou also co-ordinated the Athens 2004 closing ceremony. Now London will lead the way for 2012, I am looking forward to see some good ol' British style in the Olympic ceremonies.

Ztalker
Exactly. Well put. I honestly can understand why people were boycotting the games.
igyman
Yeah i heard bout all this, i suppose you could say the ceremonies were a facade, a mask to show the world. Which ceremony isn't a facade? Though, this is the first I hear of people being kicked out of their homes, it hasn't been on any of the news, at least not on those I tend to watch. As for the ceremonies themselves, they were plain and simply spectacular. You can think whatever you want about the Chinese, but one thing is certain, they know discipline. I mean, if they didn't a ceremony that huge and that complicated would have been a complete failure.
Great Scott!
Which ceremony isn't a facade?Perhaps the ones from countries where things are, you know, well off? Say what you want, but it's no secret the average American person is way better off than the average Chinese person. A bad economy is better than, well, almost no economy. igyman
Perhaps the ones from countries where things are, you know, well off? Well,... naaaah. The point of a ceremony is mostly to give people something interesting to watch and to give them the illusion that the event is about something greater than the thing it's really about. Here's an example - every country, well off or not, has an inauguration ceremony. You know, when a new president assumes his duty. Now, every inauguration ceremony involves the new president reciting an oath, shaking hands, listening to the national anthem, etc, but what it's really about is to let people know that a new guy got a well-paid job. The person who's been elected president couldn't care less about that ceremony, what's important to him is that he got the job and the inauguration is just a formality that needs to be done, like signing an employment contract with a company, only shinier. Now, this has been soooo off-topic and for that I apologize to everyone. Perhaps a topic in Kavar's Corner would be more appropriate, if this discussion is going to become more serious. As for the topic of this thread, like I said both ceremonies were spectacular - the performers, the fireworks... great stuff. And shiny.

Gargoyle King
Now, this has been soooo off-topic and for that I apologize to everyoneNah it's fine, everyone's entitled to an opinion, besides i often tend to go kinda off-topic myself. Anyway if the topic becomes serious,. the mods can just move it to Kavar's Corner if they wish.

Ctrl Alt Del
Haven't watched the closing cerimony but the opening was certainly not 'made in China' (pun). The case of the fake singstress and the recorded fireworks didn't exactly surprised me. Though, this is the first I hear of people being kicked out of their homes, it hasn't been on any of the news, at least not on those I tend to watch. 2 million, more precisely. Rabish Bini
Boring. I honestly didn't see the hype, all ceremonies like that are boring to me and I can't stand to watch them, I admit they were spectacular, well coordinated and stuff, but I can't stand watching them. But that's just me.
