Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay

Well, I've had some gaming urges lately. So, today, after a couple unsatisfying levels in Super Mario Bros. 3, I go through my XBox games, and I remember a game with some great graphics, and features everyone's favorite blind guy; Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay. I only get up to the credits before I get back online, but I was awestruck

So, who here has played Riddick, and thought it was awesome? :D

i still own my original copy of the PC version, and i also play it from time to time. that game still ranks as one of my all time favorites. the game just has so much polish to it from the high quality graphics to some of the best voice-acting of any video game ever. the story is simplistic, but it works very well. the best part of this game, though, is the gameplay. its a great combination of stealth, first-person melee combat, and FPS.

the game is starting to show its age, but it still holds up well (less so on the Xbox, though). given that you just started to play this game, well, enjoy the ride. trust me: its one of the best you'll ever get from a video game.

It's that good, huh?
most definitely, and if you're a fan of the Riddick movies, you'll be an even bigger fan of the game. the main reason is that you just feel like you're actually playing as Riddick. the only part of the traditional HUD that you'll see is a couple of white blocks in the corner of the screen that represents your health bar. all the guns have a laser sight and a built in ammo indicator. when you want to be stealthy, instead of having some cheesy "stealth indicator", the screen will turn a slight shade of blue whenever you're hidden.

heck, its one of the few FPS games where can look down and see your character's body as well as the shadow he casts from the lighting. its all designed to immerse you more into the role of Riddick which is stark contrast to a lot of "cookie-cutter" FPS games where all you can see of your character is their hands and wrists as they hold onto their gun.

really, about the only detraction i can even muster up is that the game uses Vin Diesel's voice and likeness in the game, and even then, its only a detraction if you don't like Vin Diesel. he does an excellent job of voicing his well written part; so, i don't see where its a detraction at all. it could be for someone else, though.

short summary: if you find the game, just pick it up. if you find it in the bargain bin, it'll be some of the best 5 dollars you ever spent. ;)
