Marius Fett Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 Over at deadlystream we have a nifty little feature I think would be good to have over here at LF. Basically, when you get a PM, Visitor Message, or whatever, you get this little module at the top of the forums, that tells you the subject, sender and gives you a link to the message. It doesn't take up much space, and IMO, it's quite a handy thing to have there. Here's a screenshot:
Sabretooth Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 I post a stamp of approval on this idea!
EnderWiggin Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 Christina Aguilera? Wow. Anyway, I think it looks cool. _EW_
Mav Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 I like it too, but I also like the orange slash through Google Ads, can we get that thing too?
Astor Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 I like it too, but I also like the orange slash through Google Ads, can we get that thing too? I think we'd google ads in the first place for that to happen. I think it's a nice feature!
Jeff Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 What is the point of it when we already have the notifications area, and for new PMs you can set a popup window to alert you? Seems redundant to me.
DeadYorick Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 Eh small enough feature. Easy to go unnoticed. Though it would be immensely useful to people who receive a lot of PMS
Sabretooth Posted February 23, 2009 Posted February 23, 2009 @Moel: You don't have pop-ups for visitor messages, pop-ups are annoying and this method is pretty fast without involving a Mount Everest of coding.
Jeff Posted February 23, 2009 Posted February 23, 2009 But even without the popup for VMs you still have a notification area already, this just seems like adding a feature that is already present. It's not a big deal either way if a lot of others want it, I just don't see the point to it.
Sabretooth Posted February 23, 2009 Posted February 23, 2009 As I've said, this one's faster and does what it's supposed to do more efficiently, however infinitesimal that may seem.
Marius Fett Posted February 25, 2009 Author Posted February 25, 2009 It's a handy little feature, not huge, as has been mentioned, but useful nonetheless.
stoffe Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 How long would those verbose notifications stay on display? Until they've been read, or only be shown once? Also, should it only display the most recently received+unread regardless of type, or the most recently received+unread of each type? (The popup notices are likely intended to be annoying so you can't miss them. Not much point of a notification that is easily overlooked. )
Stream Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 It only shows once like the popup and only displays the last PM recieved so people who have a lot of PM's won't have half a screen of notices. A wee bit of coding should allow for it to stay there until said PM is read, I was going to look into it but haven't had a chance yet. --Stream
