plamdi Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 there were two ways of igniting the gunpowder at the dam. I'd always used the lens!
SyntheticGerbil Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 You can also make use of the telescope on the screen with the carefully balanced art so that you can tell where you are aiming.
xgfx Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 I was searching around for this yesterday! It suddenly dawned on me that even though I'd always picked up the telescope, and removed the lense, I had never made use them. Show spoiler (hidden content - requires Javascript to show) I've always used the flint and cannon ball
LordTrilobite Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 I always keep forgetting how I did that puzzle, but I think I've done both numerous times. Normaly I'd just be dicking about, then suddenly there's an explosion.
Jeroen_JRP Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 lol, I used Show spoiler (hidden content - requires Javascript to show) The staple remover with the flint
SyntheticGerbil Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 lol, I used Show spoiler (hidden content - requires Javascript to show) The staple remover with the flint Hah I've never done that! I always used the cannonball just because the cannonball had no other use. I felt sorry for it.
MusicallyInspired Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 Wow. Points for LA for utilizing multiple puzzle solutions! Didn't even know you could take the lense out of the telescope! Always wondered what the point of it was...
Scapetti Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 Now I vaguely remember doing the telescope way in the original... crazy shiz. Maybe it's for the people that don't want to collect any notes? (are there such people or am I just making stupid guesses)
LordTrilobite Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 Pretty much the same goes for lighting the cannon at the end of part II. You've got a lot of paper items that have no other use, so you can choose which one you want to burn.
Sven_Q45 Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 I knew! @MusiclyInspired Yes. Everytime I play Dott a take another way to solve a puzzle. And sometimes another order.
Jeopando Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 Now I vaguely remember doing the telescope way in the original... crazy shiz. Maybe it's for the people that don't want to collect any notes? (are there such people or am I just making stupid guesses) It was more common in the old days to have more possible solutions to one puzzle. It made it a bit more realistic and less frustrating, preventing the situation where you come up with a solution but the game just won't let you do it, since you have to do it in a slightly different way. I almost never use the lense of the telescope since it ruins it and you can't use it anymore. I think I first came up with the telescope solution by playing Monkey Island 2. Show spoiler (hidden content - requires Javascript to show) If you try to "open the telescope" Guybrush'll say something like "This is not Monkey 1." Didn't help me anymore since I had finished Monkey Island 1 long before that, of course, but it's interesting to find these alternate solutions.
gerwinf Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 I used the compass and the flint another possibility
neon_git Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 Hey neat, I never knew that either. I always thought it was a joke that the telescope was useless in SOMI but then you actually need it in MI2.
MusicallyInspired Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 I knew! @MusiclyInspired Yes. Everytime I play Dott a take another way to solve a puzzle. And sometimes another order. DOTT?
Radogol Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 Day Of The Tentacle... man. Yeah, but how many puzzles in DOTT had alternate solutions?
Sven_Q45 Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 Well not much. But it´s really not linearly. That´s what I said, too. But ALL LucasArts adventure games then for crying out loud.
MusicallyInspired Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 Day Of The Tentacle... man. I know what DOTT means. It's just that we were all talking about SMI and I wasn't sure if he made a mistake or not...I didn't know there were alternate puzzle solutions in DOTT either.
