Has Anyone Ever Thought Of This?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys its been a while since I posted here, I kinda miss it. Anyways, I have just recently picked up the newly released Unity 3.5 Engine. I have been playing around with it alot and have been wondering if anyone else is using it too. I have started developing the concept for a game (not Star Wars related) and intend to begin development soon and while I may or may not be looking for a team I am interested to hear what others think about it and its capabilities.

I also would like to say that I visited a thread that is probably still up if you are reading this about KotOR III. The original post looks fanmade but I think it would be cool of someone make a fanmade version since we wont be getting one from Bioware soon. What does this have to do with my post you ask? Well I think it could be done in Unity or UDK which are both free to use. Just thought I would throw my two cents in. And again: Great to be back.

Hey, there have been quite a few KotOR III threads over the past couple of weeks (maybe longer I haven't really been paying attention) they all seem to be about one of two things: TC mods for existing games or rumors that it is in development. I had a similar idea: what if we (as a community) were to put together a team and make the game using UDK or Unity. They are both free to use and pretty easy to learn. Anyways: just a thought and I am interested to hear what you guys think.

Merged both of your threads. Please do not make duplicate posts on the same subject.

Thanks,

SS

It's been brought up before. It's not going to happen. Just the sheer amount of work that is involved in creating a new game is staggering. The current Total Conversion mods that are still active are taking years. Plus, from what I hear, TOR is KotOR III. People like it, and it has lived up to everyone's expectations and more.

As I said in another thread, I have tried before making a 'KotOR 3' with unity, this was a couple of years back mind, but even with a team it was cancelled shortly after we started development simply due to the huge workload. The best bet is simply to make a TC, or join a current TC, or just use TOR.

there is a mod called revenge of revan and it's been in development forever, the demo was amazing so if that ever comes out I would get it if I was you

Fixed your post. ;)

As stated above it would take forever to make. Just making TC's are taking years. I'm fine with waiting for the Tc's that are in curently in progress.

I agree with darth-ackbar and Sithspecter. So I'm going to quote my post from another thread like this:

Imagine: Development for KotOR I [...] eventually took them around 2.5 years [..] with a team of professional devs.

[...]

Now imagine how long it'll take for several modders that develop mods for fun and joy (Also considering most of them have a job or another occupation).

Fastmaniac

Let's just be happy with the TCs people are already making... At least for now...

(PS: Am I the only one or how is it that Kotor III threads are flooding the forums? :wonder:)

Perhaps as TOR has destroyed the last chance of a kotor 3 many have decided that mods are their best bet. It is very unlikely a new kotor would come out. But I've never seen so many kotor 3 posts come up before now. Theres 4-5 TC's on there way and I wouldn't be suprised if anymore are going to be announced. My thoughts anyway.

Unity looks cool, but yeah, TONS of work.

Someone was trying to get me to freelance and work on one of their projects with them and when it became obvious I'd have to put in such a big investment that I might as well have opted to become a professional in that field... for a project I wasn't really excited about anyway...I said "DO NOT WANT!"

This would be great if you can pull it off. I'm not sure how far you are into the project but I happen to have all the source code for my unity version of kotor 3. I'm not sure how well it will translate into udk since I've never used it but if you want you can have it.

Just give me a pm if you want :)

If this does go somewhere, i want in. Anything i can do, id be willing to supply. But not until theres already at least a playable proof of concept area.

I am willing to get ideas from anyone that has them. I will add them in and in the credits I will put your name into it

hey guys, I'm working on a KOTOR 3 based on UDK engine (in the past year or so).

We can join forces, right? I can really use some help :)

Here are some links on youtube with what I've done so far, I hope it's OK to post links.

It's okay to post links, but it's not okay to port materials from KotOR and TSL. Please don't port, and please don't advertise it here.

Thanks,

-SS

sure, the icons are from TOR as a placeholder, but not from KOTOR and TSL as mentioned in the moderator's comment.

I'm a tech person, not a linguist, so "KOTOR and TSL" is different than "KOTOR, TSL and any other SW variation" or "including but not limited to KOTOR, TSL and other official games in the same SW universe".

I'm also not a native English speaker, so I rely more on universal symbols, such as math and logic, and I read in the AND operator info or subtleties that I cannot read in English like a native speaker and viceversa, an English speaker cannot natively see the difference between OR and XOR.

I ask questions for clarification and the issue will be easily settled when an official decision is made and an official statement is issued.

Don't port at all. From any game. And once again, don't advertise it here. An official statement has been issued. It's here:

7. Mods containing assets (models, textures, sounds, etc.) ported from another game are prohibited

It is against Lucasarts policy to port assets from one game to another. Holowan Laboratories does not condone porting of this nature, and moderators will close or delete any thread or posts discussing such mods, even if it is for your own personal use. The exception to this is if the asset in question is present in both KOTOR and TSL. Modders may create from scratch mods that resemble assets from another game.

This is in the Forum Rules. It is clear that you have not acquainted yourself with them. Please do. What you are doing is not a mod for KotOR or TSL. It is totally separate, and you are porting materials from other games. Any further posts with porting will result in a ban, okay?
