I too have found that there’s become a bit of a dearth of interesting smaller sites, at least that I know of. I follow the large sites but they’re pretty dull. In all seriousness, this thread has made me realise that the internet is pretty devoid of interesting reads, beyond news sites and random articles discovered via aggregators. Somewhere along the way I got out of the habit of just browsing. That's pretty sad. Come on! There must be something out there! Don't make me read a Remi blog like it's 2001!
