I believe it is something to do with showing off Vertex Textures, or something. I read about this on the Unreal 2 forums a loooong time ago...and, of course, saw the demo. I can't find the thread, though (I think they've deleted a lot of the old stuff), so I can't remember the specific details.

They have basically managed to really compress all of the textures using some complicated algorithms. It decompresses everything as it runs, of course...and it is mighty impressive.

If someone would only utilise something similar in a game...we probably wouldn't have to undertake massive 800Mb+ installations any more. :)

This is a Demo made by a German Demo group. It's basicly an art form. What they do is make real-time rendered "video clips" usually using 3d. My brother is in one of those groups (The 3rd Foundation). 64k Demo's are made a lot and some look a lot better than this one.

There is a complete scene of people who make things like this. They have parties a couple of times a year, with competitions. Denmark has a big party (The Party) coming up around this time I believe.

yeh think about it if every game was around 20 k and with the big hard drives people have now a days we'd never ever fill it up!!!!!!! 30gb space..... 50x20k games .. !MB for 50 games and u have a hard drive of 30 gb... Amazing... Thatd be good....we'd have millions of games then and almost never run out of space.... jsut liek in my dad's old office they go their first comp with 20mb.. U'll never fill it up... they were pretty god-damn wrong.

Also if that happened then floppies would be back in business and make their games much cheaper because ur not buying a cd for the game just a cheap floppy.... then we can copy games for each other and get the jail like i bet soem evil people in here do.. i don't.

Yes maybe a bit more but it's a compression system. A company could make a much much better system than that... it's the compression that changes the size.. Of course the ordinary game would be about 1 gig or as i was using as an example avp2.. 1.3gb but if it was compressed it would be much much smaller but i can't say becauseit depends on how good the engine is..... i know that 3d engine that they DID use (that was a 3d engine) was quite old and i think it could have been the q2 engine. games today are much more advanced engines so u'd be able to fit in about 50 meg from a 1 gb game if some company invented a great compression system.

It looks soooo cool. First thing I thought was wow! could this rival the Q3 engine? But as someone said it is just a demo and not a full game so oh well mabye next time. It's mind boggling that so much could be in just under 64kb"s WOW! Graphically to me it does rival the Q3 engine.
