This is all anecdotal evidence. Are there any published sales figures for computer games, like there are for DVDs and CDs? I tried searching Google and Yahoo but came up dry. Anyone know of a site for this?

You are of course right. I also hope that I am wrong as I like this game alot. There must be a site somewhere, but I cant find one either :(

When they started to Advertise SWGB in the UK, they didn't have a release date. Double spread adverts with no website URL, no price, nothing..just the normal picture and screenshots.

Now the game has been 'released' the advertising has stopped. The same thing happened with Force Commander, although that was a truely awful game.

SWGB has JUST made the Top 10 chart sales - it now has dropped out the Top 10 - however, there's not many key releases around this time of year and most of our game stores either have one copy, or none. This isn't because of high sales! LOL.

EA have done a great job of bringing life back into the Sims....a truely poor game with AI even more dumb than SWGB!

A tired old game engine, a game full of bugs and very mixed reviews in the UK isn't helping the game. Star Wars games just don't sell in the UK as Lucasarts have an image of producing awful games over the past few years and last years batch of Episode One titles didn't help their cause. I have worked in the Industry and can tell from the people I speak to etc.

Trying to find sales stats on the net isn't easy, however, Chart Track gives you a weekly update on the figures

They did really nothing to advertise this game, they actually thought it would fail from what i hear, they used word of mouth advertising i guess the free way to go let us gamers get people to buy it. I only found out about this game by chance my friend downloaded the demo for the hell of it off gamespy till that date i never heard of it one not even a pic. than look at the box art the really made a cheesy cover on the box when i looked at it in the store it looked babyish and generic next to alot of the better selling games. But i gotta say i am glad some how i bumped into this game cause its great, and for being a player that has never played AOE or AOK i think it makes the game even better cause i have never seen any aspect of it before its all new to me.

Another gripe is the fact that Lucasarts have a good history of having bug ridden games and not supporting them with more patches or updates.

It's obivious that this game needs another patch as there is still alot wrong. However, look how long it took them to create a patch for the rest of europe.

Now, others will say 'to hell with europe' but these are PAYING customers - the sort Lucasarts need.

Come on Garry, don't let this game rot like the other failed SW titles.... FIX IT!

I have bought 5 games from Lucasarts in the past, starting with the venerable X-wing for DOS back in '94 (Yeesh, I feel old!), followed by TIE Fighter a couple of years later, then Dark Forces in '97 and Jedi Knight in '98 or so, and now Galactic Battlegrounds. I can't speak for any games but those 5... but of them, I have not been dissatisfied once. I have sunk more hours into, and gotten more enjoyment out of, Lucasarts games than any other company's games on the market. Perhaps I just got lucky, and all their other games are buggy, but I never once had to patch X-wing, TF, DF, or JK... and I certainly would not have known abou the infamous 'wookiee bug' had it not been for this forum (since it is not obvious from game play). So I'm not sure what sort of "bad history" the company might have, but I for one, have no problem with them.

I have not noticed any major bugs in the game-play of Galactic Battlegrounds. Everything works fine. The bit of "sticky" behavior I had previously, I tracked down to old drivers, which is not GB's fault, it's mine (or Windows'). I have not had any problems with the game play itself, nor have I noticed any real bugs. There might be things that could be better, sure (like pathfinding, which sometimes is poor, but GB is surely not alone in this regard -- most games have less than perfect path finding). But things that might be better are not really bugs. I for one am quite happy with it. It was worth every penny of the $49 I spent to get it.

You are lucky indeed.

Lucasarts of old produced the cool X-Wing series but then the dark days came..... Rebellion, Force Commander, Phantom Menace, Battle Of Naboo - i could go on!

When you are in the heat of a battle (on-line vs human) take a look at your Plummels and some other units...watch them have a 'tea-break' or 'time-out' while the battle rages.

Last night, my plummels decided to attack a farm rather than a Fortress raining fire all over them! Hmmmmmmmm...

Or a Jedi who had an arguement with a Wall, and left his fellow Knights to do the REAL battle... odd...

I am sure in TIME they will fix this.

Ah, this is not really a bug. I finally saw what you are talking about last night. My pummels were, for once, all alone attacking the back alley of my enemy's base. As most of his units were elsewhere dealing with my 7 AT-ATs and 40 or so Dark Troopers, along with escorting TIE fighters and bombers, etc, he did not have any forces to defend himself from my pummels. Therefore I left the pummels unsupported (I usually give them close air support whenever possible).

The pummels, if you have one all alone in an unexplored part of the map, have a very short line of sight (LOS)... only 1 or two spaces around them. This is not unsual for the AoE variants for a hand to hand unit. They often cannot see far. If your pummels are not within a space or two of a building, they will not see it, because it is not in their LOS. At least, that's how my pummels are behaving.

Now, you could well argue that the pummels ought to have a better LOS, but this doesn't qualify as a real bug, IMO... it's just a difference of opinion between you and the game writers over how far a unit should be able to see. Your pummels are taking a coffee break, because no enemy building is inside their LOS.

May the Force be with you.

The first Lucasarts game i was enjoying thoroughly was the original (the ORIGINAL !) Monkey Island. How's that for old ?

Before that, i had only tried my hand at Sierra's type-adventures, like Space Quest and King's Quest.

Anyone remember those ? Now tell me that you didn't enjoy them because they were crappy.

I don't understand why certain members on this forum continue to be so negative about the game!!

ok just because there are still copies in the shop doesn't mean it's not selling

Just because you don't see adverts in the magazines doesn't mean it's not selling.

Heck most of you people bought it? so they must be doing something right.

Just because it's not the number one best selling game of all time, doesn't mean it's not selling.

It is currently the 24th best selling piece of software for the pc this week, last week it was 16th, this appears to be a fairly steady amount of sales and not something to worry about!

[edit] Only Office XP Student edition is in the top 40. does that make Office XP professional a failure? Don't think so![/edit]

What's the problem here I don't know, fact is you've either got the game or you haven't, what does it matter that Virgin aren't selling x number of units a week? It's not our place to worry about it, as long as you are not the only person in the whole world with a copy of the game you'll be able to find someone else to play. People are getting too preoccupied with the success of AoK and the amount of people on the zone playing it, again, who really cares, I've said it already - there can be 300 or 3000 people online playing - we can't play them all at the same time, or even in a week, so what is there to worry about?

i saw no advertizements here in the US. i went to GB hoping that there would be a copy of GB left but when i got there, there wasn't just one. the shelves were stocked with the game and not one sold. just window shoppers. the next week i went there, there was about half there which proves that it's not very popular in Massachusetts ( I tried all of the stores in Worcester, Springfield, and Boston and they all said not one sold. 9 hrs for all of this for a school prodject. dang!
